In the eastern edge of the Himalayas, the Kingdom of Bhutan is one of the most isolated nations on the planet.
The country has long been called the happiest nation on Earth and is known for its monasteries and unique landscapes.
But until recently, Bhutan had cut itself off from the world. Foreigners were not allowed in until the 1970s, to protect the country's cultural identity.
When the ABC was granted rare entry into Bhutan, it found a nation losing a high proportion of people, mainly to Australia.
Those exiting are mostly educated and leaving professional jobs in Bhutan for blue-collar work. They say the lack of opportunities and reluctance to open up the country are leaving them without hope for the future.
