The order bank for the 2024 Maverick opened in mid July so chances are the 2025 will be the same. A mid cycle upgrade is probably going to happen, there have been some spy shots of it with the updated center stack with the Sync4 system
I tried for 18 months to get a Ford Maverick. I finally was forced to look elsewhere. Got a 2023 GMC Canyon. Love it. While it is a much bigger truck, it is also much more modern. Much better tow vehicle. Sorry Ford.
Crazy about the wait. Did you try putting in a factory order? Good to hear you found a substitute, haven't had the chance to review the Canyon yet but it's on the list
@@CarsWithSteve I place two orders with a local dealership. The first in the Spring of 2021 went no where. The second in the fall of 2022 has never arrived, and when I found an already built GMC Canyon that was in "Transit" I bought it. I've had my Canyon since August and just this week (Nov) I think I saw 2 Mavericks on the lot at my Ford Dealership. Be careful about the reviews of the Canyon. There have been some issues, but this will be true with any newly designed vehicle. I've had a couple of minor issues that my dealership has successfully resolved. Lot the ride, tech and power (310 hp, 430 tourque) of the 2.7L Turbo. Pulls my trailer really well.
Oh wow.. with two dealers even with custom orders. Sucks the service there wasn't up to par. I always take reviews with a grain of salt especially with newer builds. Glad you're loving the new ride though!
Sucks it's not available for the 2024 model! Could always do an aftermarket wrap or paint but you're at least $2k at that point. With how popular area 51 was I'm surprised they got rid of it for 2024
Steve. When you say "slightly better fuel economy" you are way off. The hybrid regularly approaches 40 on the road. Sometimes 45 to.50 in town. The 4 may be the right engine for dirt, but in town is low 20s and maybe 30ish on road. Just not close.
Love my Lariat with the black appearance package and to those that does not like the Maverick, refrain from walking slowly in the parking lot of a dealership that has them because you might get run over by someone trying to buy one!!!!
Always like to hear that owners love their rides! You're bang on with demand still.. it's rare to actually find one that isn't sold when it lands. What color did you go with for yours?
A generator option with around 3kw would be awesome, the current 400w plug can't keep a refrigerator running during a power outage or do much camping. AWD would be great, but not as big of a desire.
Ordered my '24 Lariat Hybrid in Cactus Gray and picked it up last Friday, 12/01/23. Only extra I got was the tray style floor liners. Love everything about it. Traded in a '19 Ranger XLT, downsizing, and gave them a check for $9800. Paid in full. Love that too.
@@CarsWithSteve Easy to park and get around. Pretty much feels like I'm driving the Escape. Just got it Friday and it's been pretty cold here which affects the battery. With some other things I've had to do, I've only had time to put 125 miles on it. Wife's in a wheel chair right now and the weather has been a little wet, so I have to use the car those days to keep her chair dry till the Ford Hard Fold, also known as the BAKFlip G2, ordered with my dealer comes in and I get it on.
Same platform as the Escape so that totally makes sense. Has it had trouble starting with the colder weather? Good call on the tonneau cover - those hard tops are my fav on the Maverick
@@CarsWithSteve Nope, starts instantly. Living up north, I love that battery saver feature both vehicles have. Just the hybrid feature doesn't kick in until it gets up to running temp, which obviously takes longer than in summer. I liked the smoother look of the roll up cover over the fold but we have lots of trees, live in the woods, and I was afraid that the way the cover is held when unrolled, see BAK X2, might get somewhat gunked up with tree debris and need cleaning maintenance. I could always stick a little piece of coarse screen over the drain tube hole to filter any gunk on the fold one.
Forgot to mention, my Escape is a '22 Titanium Hybrid. That vehicles performance was a part of my motivation to get that Maverick. Best mpg on the Escape has been 46 mpg.
I have a 2024 Maverick XL. I love the truck and it is about $10,000 cheaper than the Lariat. My truck has the same 2.0 engine as the Lariat. It does not have all the bells and whistles that the Larial has but I don't need them.
@@CarsWithSteve I really like the truck. It is very nice having a back seat and the storage under the seat. Averaging around 28.6 miles per gallon so far after 2,000 miles of mixed driving. It handles and drives great! At around $25,000, it was a good purchase.
Hi Steve , great review as always . The Maverick is a great small utility truck for those who need one. I've got pretty comfortable with the controls in the 24 Edge , I just need to drive it more ! The 2.0 Eco Boost is giving good mileage even with the city driving. Cheers ! 👍
Thanks John, appreciate that! I've heard a lot of people saying the EcoBoost is getting them better mileage than expected so it's great to know it's the same case with the Edge
great review! question, what brand is that bed cover? a lot of after market bed covers dont seem to allow that last fold with the cover resting the back of the cab. thanks!
I just picked up my 2024 Lariat 2.0 gas turbo, 21miles on od , the only thing he doesn’t have on this model is a sunroof and driver’s memory seat ! Drove over to the coast ? Mountain hwy Oregon , grants pass to crescent city . Plenty of power ! Never floored it , goes thru gears flawlessly, quite and smooth , almost to smooth for a Truck . I think Ford thought this one out , they did a very good job . I downsized from A 150 2018 Silverado , my needs changed , this is a great midsized pu ! Averaged 31.9 miles per gallon , I couldn’t believe it ,so what I’m saying comes from a new owner, looking forward to the next few months to see how things work out ?? Yes I would buy it again .
Loaded ride, that's exciting! Always good to hear when a new owner loves the ride. How are you finding the change from a full size to the compact truck?
The main truck that was used in static shots is Carbonized Gray. The running footage is Cactus Gray and Hot Pepper Red! You can find the full build in the description
Great video! Really want a midsize pickup and I’ve been looking at the maverick, Tacoma, and the ranger. I love the infotainment screen on the ranger but not the price of the ranger. This truck seems like the bang for your buck one but they’re also hard to get. Really interested in what the prices of the 2024 tacomas will be with their new engines as well as the MPG.
Thank you! Tough choice between the 3 or them. I’m hoping to get into a Tacoma before the end of the year but that would be a good compare to do. Harder to get the hybrid compared to the 2.0L but you might have to wait 6 plus months for delivery
@@CarsWithSteve the Tacoma was always my dream truck because I’ve never been a fan of big trucks (I also don’t tow heavy loads nor work in construction) so I’m leaning towards one. I also love all the aftermarket mods that people add to theirs. If mavericks were readily available, I’d go test drive them since I do love the MPG on the hybrid but I also do want an AWD so that’s where I’m stuck on making a decision between the two. The ranger practically costs the same as a Tacoma (even more if it’s a raptor) so if I’m paying that much, I’d probably just go for Toyotas reliability. Either way, I’m not buying anything until about a year from now in hopes that car prices kind of come down a little but I’ve started my research early and this is harder than I thought it’d be 😂 I think that the maverick seems like a truck that meets my needs more than a Tacoma but I will probably go for a Lariat one since I want the B&O sound system and I do want the “leather” seats. If you get the Tacoma, I’ll be looking forward to the video man!
I have a few friends that have smaller trucks for the same reason. They like trucks but don't need something huge. It's crazy that Mavericks are still so hard to find. I get that they aren't as profitable for Ford but if they poured more money into creating a lower priced truck/car they'd probably have a home run I've noticed manufacturers bringing back delivery allowances to try and offset higher interest rates so it's only a matter of time before it'll probably make sense
Thank you, Steve, for a great review here ! I learned so much about this nice truck ! If you could perhaps, slow the video down a little, just a little, it would be great... Thanks again !!!
You're welcome! And here I was thinking this was way slower than usual :P I'll see what I can do for the next one.. it's actually tough for me to talk this slow
Great review! I ordered my fully loaded Lariat Hybrid in July of 21, and took possession May of 22. My previous long term was a 2013 FIAT 500 ABARTH, so the dize was an adjustment. The engine was too, kinda (I owned a Volt and Spark EV) but I prefer the hybrid. Plenty of power and then some with a calmer feel. But i absolutely love my Maverick, and for me, the fully loaded Lariat is still the best choice. Im hoping to keep my Maverick as long and as many miles as possible, theres really nothing else like it.
I'm disheartened to hear that it only supports Ford Sync 3.... I wanted wireless Android Auto/Carplay and wtf Ford your 2019 models had Ford Sync 3... It's been 5 years!!! Might have to look other places. Great Review Steve, this was super informative and this car is still on my list thanks to your review
Ok, sound .system sounds just like my phone , -oh wait, i was hearing through my phone..... Also, how tall are you (,vis a vis head room with sun roof And lastly, will synce system play FLAC, or Wav files through the USB/memory stick ?
I'm 6'0, more than enough head room in the 1st and 2nd row. Sync3 can play the following audio formats: MP3, M4B, WMA, PCM, WAV, AAC, APE, and FLA. It can also play audio from these video sources (not actual video just the audio from it) WMV, MKV, AVI, MPEG, MP2, MPE, MP4, MOV, M4V and 3GP
If you want to use Waze, does the cell phone still have to be plugged in??? I have a 2023 XLT and I am upgrading to the 2024 Lariat, and I like the GPS to talk to me in Portuguese, which is not an option with the Ford GPS, so I will probably still want to use Waze...
@@CarsWithSteve love it. I ordered a Lariat in September 2022, but when it looked like I might not get it right away, I bought my XLT Hybrid (with Lux package) from the dealership when someone decided they didn't want it. Just got notification a few weeks ago that my Lariat, which got rolled over into 2024, has a scheduled build date in December. Now...I need to sell the XLT, or trade it in. Decisions, decisions!
@@CarsWithSteve do you know if the 2024 Maverick Lariat Navigation System speaks any languages other than English, Spanish, and French? e.g. Portuguese?
That wait must be driving you nuts but hopefully you'll have it before the spring. The system only has those 3 language options in North America unfortunately
It's the difference between base model (XL) and loaded (Lariat with Lux Pack).. the same way it is with all manufacturers. The Maverick launched at a starting price of $22k in 2021 and is $25,400 for the 2024 model so it's not a big increase at all
I haven't seen a ton of posts popping up in forums or NHTSA complaints from owners about transmission issues. Just did a quick search and there are a few people that have mentioned running into problems with their hybrid transmission but for the number of complaints out there vs units sold I don't think it's something that would raise a red flag... Curious though, do you have a Maverick that's been running into issues? Hybrid or EcoBoost?
@@CarsWithSteve I really like it. I sold a two year old BMW and bought the Maverick expecting to give up a lot to get practicality of the Maverick but it turns out I really like it.
@@CarsWithSteve 2.0 Liter. I was happily surprised at the performance. I got the XL with only tow package, sprayed in bed liner and AWD as options. I’ve added a folding hard cover and built a power panel with lights for the box. I find the ergonomics of the switches and controls to be the best and most intuitive of any vehicle I’ve ever had. By contrast my wife’s Volvo XC40 has bafflingly obtuse controls. I joke about the actual key that needs to inserted and turned- “what are we, cavemen?”. I also wish the Apple CarPlay was wireless. I’ll miss my heated seats and steering wheel as I live in a cold climate. Overall it far exceeds my expectations.
That 2.0L is so peppy, glad you're enjoying the truck more than you were expecting. Great idea for the bed lighting too! Funny about the Volvo.. I was in an XC40 last week and in a C40 EV this week and there are some odd controls for sure. The EV doesn't have a push start button at all haha
I really want those Tremor blacked out headlights. I'm not a fan of chrome. Shrinkflation is the new buzzword for paying the same price but getting less options ....quietly removed.
Blacked out headlamps look great! So true about the quietly removed being part of the industry. Saw that a lot in peak 2020 - 2021 with semiconductor shortages and features just being removed
You do such a good job! I put in an order for a Lariat July 23. Terrain color. I'd like to add the Black appearance pak, but I dont like the black plether seats (people say their backs get sweaty in summer). Can you get black cloth seats with the Lariat, or do I need to switch to an XLT with luxury/Black Appearance to get the cloth seats?
Thanks Paul! You unfortunately can't get cloth seats in the Lariat, so it would have to be the XLT. The black pleather would definitely make you sweat a bit more compared to Desert Brown. I think the seat colors across the board work well with the Terrain exterior. When you're on the build and price, if you move to the side profile interior shot you can see the door jam color on the bottom left of the screen.. There are a few different options though.. If you really like the extra features of the Lariat you can try to hunt down some seats from a wrecked XL/XLT and do a seat swap. Or stick with the desert brown interior of the Lariat and then hydro dip the wheels black, and wrap some of the other parts that would come with the black appearance package
It is for sure but for people who just want a cheap truck and don't care about the extra features it's a good option. Haha no cruise standard in the XL was a weird choice so I'm glad they at least brought that in for the 2023 model
Steve, I have managed to tow my new Lariat without problem. One question though: the center console has three buttons and a slot. Any idea what the slot is for? My guess is a credit card holder. What do you think? Thanks
@@CarsWithSteve in Brazil Maverick is available only at the Lariat trim with FX4 package until 2023 model and the expectation is that it keep the same for the 2024 models. The powertrain can be choose between 2.0 EcoBoost AWD and 2.5 hybrid FWD. The exterior colors available look the same of the US and the interior always in brown/blue.
So only a fairly loaded truck but at least it's available! The Maverick has been really popular so far in North America. What color do you think you're going for?
@@CarsWithSteve Atlas blue is my number. 😁 I want to customize as a Lightning version. Lowered suspension (-30/40mm), 20” wheels, bumpers and spoilers/skirts painted with body color and hard cover at the back. Brake fluid and pads upgrade and 50hp would be enough. 🤘😎
Steve, really appreciate the videos on the Lariat. Just got my 2024 Lariat hybrid and wonder if you can help me with setting up the car to leisure towing. I intend to use this vehicle as my day ride but also want to tow it behind my RV. There is a section in the manual but I am more of a visual learner. What do you think?
You're welcome and exciting about the new ride! I haven't put together a video on flat towing yet but I'll add it to the list. If you flat tow before I have that video ready, just make sure that you start the engine and allow it to run for one minute at the beginning of each day and every six hours after that
@@CarsWithSteve - Really anything! I liked your Bronco Raptor video. I think the Ranger Raptor is due out soon, maybe that one is on your list lol. Currently waiting on my Lariat Maverick to be built next month so this was cool.
Ranger Raptor is definitely on the list! Most likely early next year before I'm able to get into it. Exciting about the Maverick too! Did you go for the hybrid or 2.0L?
I've found them to be pretty good every time I'm in one.. People throughout most Maverick forums have said that they're pretty comfortable in their experience as well!
Hey! The Maverick would be able to recognize USB devices.. just plug it into the USB data port down the center stack. It won't play video back but most audio formats are recognized.
Only the hybrid can be flat towed with some conditions. Can't go faster than 70 mph, have to be in neutral tow mode and the truck needs to be run for 1 min at the beginning of the day and again every 6 hours after that
Technically not a factory option so if you really like the blackout package and you want those seats your best bet is to build it with every other feature you want and then: - hydro-dip the wheels ($500 - $900 depending on the design and shop) - matte black spray the grille ($30 Home Depot) - wrap the mirrors and interior accents ($500 - $1,000 depending on DIY vs shop) It'll probably cost you about $500 more but it's cheaper than changing the seat color using Katzkin aftermarket
its a shame they put those little cubbies under the rear seat i would MUCH rather a completely flat floor under the rear seat to haul more gear/ install subwoofers.
I haven't seen much done aftermarket yet but you could cut out enough space to install a woofer. Open space like the Ranger of F150 would be really useful though
True.. NHTSA is showing the 2022 hybrids have some complaints on the electrical system and with an equal number of complaints on the brakes. The 2023 model seems to have addressed those issues, as the complaints so far are around 10% of the 2022. I'm waiting for the 5-7 year mark to see how they handle with higher mileage
If you want the most out of your engine get the eco boost and take care of it, f the mpg as soon as warranty is running out that hybrid is going to be a serious problem and furthermore the eco boost is set up in a way that is easy to work on yourself
@@CarsWithSteve I had an ecoboost Mustang and it had TONS of power. It really didn't like 87 octane gas though. I could tell a big difference with 91/93
Why does it seem like a deal killer to me that the rear view mirror doesn’t self dim or have garage door openers built in. Also most cars with electric seats have memory settings. Otherwise it looks to have all the standard high end offerings. Anyone know if the windshield wipers are automatic and/or self adjusting in speed?
It is supposed to be a budget truck so some of the tech you'd find in other Fords aren't available.. that includes everything you listed. So no auto-dimming rearview, garage door opener, seat memory or rain sensing wipers. But it's looking like Ford is planning a 2025 refresh which will hopefully bring a few extras!
All those electric features just seem like one more thing that could potentially break. To each their own, though. But for me I don’t need those features in a truck. Heck, I’d get manual windows if I could. Picking up my 2024 Maverick XLT AWS with 4K tow on Saturday. I’ll be replacing my 2005 GMC Canyon that’s had a long life at 260,000 miles.
I picked up my lariat two days ago and love it. I am already past the dimming mirror. Also found out the passenger seat isn’t powered or has lumbar support like the drivers. Wife seems to be happy with it. One thing that stands out is the sound system is very nice and has a surround mode.
Lol! Seriously the maverick became popular because it was an affordable cheap little truck. The lariat is 40 grand! Lol! Its ridiculous! I dont care how many options you slap on this puppy your still getting a cheap little truck. Your just paying 40 grand for it because you just cant handle driving a vehicle that doesn't have all the options. Im not even going to get into the people who paid 20 grand over the 25 grand msrp in 2022 when they were selling even with dealer mark ups! I honestly dont blame the dealers. I blame the silly people who willingly paid the ridiculous prices being asked.
@@lordrayden3045 triggered?? Ok ....cool! Maybe so..... but please explain this nonsense to me. It's like everyone is in a trance or something. Common sense has died! People are doing some crazy stuff lately. 😳
Paying over sticker is a joke, I don't know why people choose to do that. XL would definitely be more than enough for most people that are budget conscious.
Quite frankly, unless you are planning to purchase or finance someone's Maverick Lariat, or other vehicle for that matter, what anyone pays isn't your concern. I've driven inexpensive cars for over 25 years, and when the Maverick was introduced, I knew I wanted it to be the vehicle I own the longest. So when I paid $33k for a fully loaded Lariat Hybrid (ordered in 2021), I wanted what I wanted. I've had my Maverick a year and a half, 33k miles, and have used just about every single option on that truck. In fact I find that Maverick Lariat to be the BETTER deal than an XL. And to leave on this note....ALL car prices are bat sh!t crazy these days, so if you're gonna single out the Maverick, don't stop there!
That isn't a truck; its a flowerpot utility. What ever happen to a simple pick up truck I own a 1999 F150 4.6 V8 with an 8'ft bed, yes, an 8'ft BED Truck! I bought it for $5,900 when it was 9yrs old, had 73,000 miles on it; now it has 219,000 miles & still runs! You couldn't give me a new truck. The back beds in all these new trucks are useless, there like flowerpots today... Over priced junk they are making today. All this electronic gadgets become useless when they stop working. FORD you priced your customers right out of the market. That is reality!
Inflation sucks. I remember when houses were $199k in 1999 and the same ones are listed at over $1,000,000 today... With the entry level trim being closer to $30k there aren't many other options on the market with similar features
@@CarsWithSteve Its not all ABOUT inflation; Its called Greed! Trucks beds are like flowerpots with a lot of Plastic parts. So your are paying $100,000 for a recycled plastic truck with a flowerpot in the back. Inflation
Quit whining. Obviously they haven't priced their customers out of the market as they still sell more than anyone. Quit being a whiny, cheap bitch. They don't care if you don't buy one.
What experience do you have to prove this 'flowerpot utility '? Clearly you aren't a Maverick owner and/or in ANY Maverick group to know these are as capable as most full size trucks in most scenarios-and this coming from owners who owned or still owned full size pickups. Not sure why you are so triggered about the utility of a vehicle you are never going to own.
@@duster497 lol! Let me see you carry a stack of drywall 4'X10' sheets in that flower pot LOL! I can, you can't, because you drive a flower pot. You are comparing it to a full size pickup truck, I find insulting. I drive a real pickup truck. You couldn't even give me a Maverick for FREE LOL! Because I would trade it in, for an old pickup truck with an 8'ft bed! When you guy's start making real pickup trucks, let me know. Ford doesn't make real simple pickup trucks anymore; that is a fact. And wasn't the Maverick a CAR first!
