Path of Exile's Blight league was released in patch 3.8, and with it came the new feature of anointing. Anoints allow characters to obtain passive skills by spending oils to enchant an amulet - handy to grab a passive skill on the other side of the passive skill tree. But there's also a handful of anoint-only passive skill abilities, any they're actually quite good.

Tranquility, Tenacity and Crusader(which grant Transfiguration of Soul/Body/Mind) are also quite good on tailored characters. The Crown of the Inward Eye unique helmet which grants all 3 is great on builds stacking multiple resources, like a character that's investing heavily into mana and energy shield. 2 WEEKS UNTIL EXILECON!!!

@@ArawnOfAnnwn I think it's generally quite a weak node, but it doubles negative resistance too so who knows, maybe you want negative chaos resistance with some new item similar to doryani's prototype in the future!

@@dreamcore_gg It frees up a lot of space on gear to have other(cheaper) mods instead of chaos resist. At min-maxed levels it's not necessary, but when trying to build up gear it can be very freeing.

Persistance can be very good on physical taken as x builds. I was tempted to use it on my fire conversion character (92% taken as fire) to fully negate physical but at that point i opted for a damage anoint due to me barely taking damage in the first place. Could be interesting around the 70% range to make those % go as far as possible.

During the current league I was actually considering taking the Hardened Scars annoint. It was when I was debating how to fit in Annhilitation`s approach boots into my Fire Reap Chieftain build. I discovered then that there are not a lot of options in the game for directly reducing damage over time taken. The Arakalli Pantheon is actually really valuable due to this.

A pretty good combo is having say 50,000 armour, which is reasonably easy to make happen, in combination with Aspect of the Crab and Persistence. This combo makes it so that any hit of 1,100 physical damage or below doesn't remove your crab barriers, as you're fully mitigating the physical damage. The above in combination with say, a lightening coil, means the enemy needs to hit you with over 2,000 physical damage to remove the crb barriers, which makes them incredibly resilient. (All of the above assuming a level 100 character, scale down appropriately of you don't like paying for legion carries)

With Persistent for flat phys reduction, and the buffed Formless Flame for up. To 200 flat fire damage reduction, it's theoretically possible to do a Tempered By War + Mahuxotl's Machination + CI + Incandescent Heart build that can take 0 damage while mapping. Though you instantly die to any DoT. Still a goofy idea tho

Off topic here, I really hope that we get an alternative way of getting the maven charges, brutal charges would be so cool to have on a annoint only, or absorb charges, affliction charges can just go away, it is really not useful for anything other than low damage builds. Or alternative sources of ailment such as cold can poison.

the one that gives transfiguration of soul and 5% ES can be a lot of damage on an more defensive build so can be the mana one. They are kinda generic but overall pretty good. Its real hard to compete with the +2 max allres node for generic goodness. Could really love to see some overview on which anoints gets used the most.

This league I went back to playing with the blight gloves. Man those things are actually fun to use, and can be surprisingly strong when grabbing another anointed node on top of what you already use. The buffs it grants also acts like a stationary headhunter, way more limited due to the buffs not following you but it is quite nice.

persistence seems nice with boneshatter, but in ssf id rather get a spell suppression annoint most of the time

Important thing to note: Hardened Scars (not sure about rest of these) use easy to get oils while giving great recovery bonus. Therefore, it shines in SSF/league start environment even more

So Aspect of Stone > Persistence. Good to know. I'd actually looked for info on those two nodes many leagues ago to try working out which one was better, but there was barely any content on either of them. Both of them work in the background so it's hard to tell in gameplay. Now I finally have my answer. Persistence has the same weakness as armor, so I'm gonna say Aspect of Stone is the better choice overall.

There's one exception to the above though afaik. If you convert a lot of the physical damage you take into other types, then both armor and Persistence become a lot more effective. In the case of Persistence I'd guess it'd still only be worth it if you've converted most of the physical damage to be taken as something else, or have high armor too. But at that point why bother? Physical damage shouldn't be problem for you anyway. Aspect of Stone excels at being a good general purpose solution with a fixed effectiveness.

Do you reckon the persistance keeps track of damage taken before reduction, with the Cast when damage taken in mind? Or only the final value would be taken into consideration, therefore not very useful for such setup?

It should take into account the actual damage taken after reductions, so a CWDT would add less damage to its tracker as more damage would be prevented

you can also use a hybrid flask with "not removed on full mana...." for perma 25% damage over time with 100% up time without playing pathfinder. hybrid flasks are also life flasks :D used that on my rf inquisitor a few leagues back.

Harden Scars + 10% Less DoT taken from DoT mastery and 50% less damage over time taken if you have started taking a DoT as second ago and arakaalis pantheon with 10% reduced makes you practically invulnerable to DoTs in all forms. DoT ground effects in deep delve are terrifying so having this combo basically removes them as an issue.

If you can fit them in on a pathfinder (Which is already tanky) it allowed me to push deep into delve with a pathfinder build.

@@dreamcore_gg Do you think GGG will nerk Lethe Shade? It's downside is pretty negligible for the upside of 50% less DoT damage taken for a second. Only time it's ever really an issue is with bleeds I find

​@@DaJodad Honestly don't think so just because it's in such a crappy part of the tree--I.E. right in that upper part of shadow going to witch near a bunch of super-mediocre DoT nodes that are the first to go once you find a good cluster jewel. The opportunity cost to -*-obtain-*- Lethe Shade is enormous, IMO--*especially* for a pathfinder that wants to go *down* to nature's remedies, and not off to la-la land in the top of the shadow area.

Yep, as long as the hit deals no physical damage to you, the stacks won't be removed

Master Surgeon is already a very strong defense against DOT. The only weakness is when you forget to use life flasks but Hardened Scars cant fix it. So it's not worth to waste an anoint that can only provide more defense to DOT. There's a lot of sources provide increased life recovery from flasks which is effective angainst both DOTs and hits.

Its not just bow skills...Frost Blades is actually a good skill with vengeant cascade and they are going to ruin it if they don't bring the attack skills up and nerf it.

Yeah I hope they bring a lot of attack skill up at a base level, for example ancestor totem buffs should be just baked into melee abilities and removed, these are some of the glaring issues that attack builds need to be solved if they are to be good or comfortable to play

Frost blades with heatshiver is already really good. Cascade puts it to broken op level. Same with steel skills( they're pretty shit with no cascade tho) getting like a 10-20x multiplier on a skill is simply just stupid. Like shouldn't exist stupid. Not for a single anoint

I am confused when trying to annoint Vengeant Cascade it says: Returning Projectiles have 150% increased projectile speed. Where are you guys getting the Mod Dreamcore shows on his video :(

If the projectiles hit with enough duration between them to avoid the icd, I would say yes but I haven't tested it

i love vengeant cascade. it's such a ridiculous damage multiplier. almost too strong for its own good (pls no nerf) (it will be nerfed)

Not particularly because boneshatter self damage continues to ramp up so your armour will mitigate less and less of it and at some point the percentage of the damage being mitigated by Persistence goes way down

A proper Master Surgeon build has so much life recovery per second that any damage taken over time (like uber shaper beam) in the game is essentially irrelevant, making Hardened Scars fairly useless.

I really hope GGG changes how damage conversion works for PoE2. I was messing around PoB after watching this video just to find out that the conversion chain is weird af. Aparently you can convert all elemental damage taken to only take fire and chaos damage (Mahuxotl + Tempered by War) , so all you'd have to look out for is Phys-, Fire- and Chaos-Damage. Throwing The Rat Cage into the mix doesn't work as you'd expect. I thought, nice, convert all fire damage taken from hits to phys and only bother with Taking Phys and Chaos damage from here. Not so. Only the damage that was fire to begin with gets converted to Phys, but not the damage that itself got converted from cold or lightning to fire. I really hate how this game works sometimes.

You can only shift damage taken into a different type once because all damage shifts happen at the same stage of the calculation when receiving damage. It works like this for balance purposes, otherwise it would end up being extremely difficult to design new mods around damage taken as if you could shift the damage more than once, and, similar to damage conversion(which only goes one way for the same reason), it's done to avoid potential damage loops.
