My best friend in high school had a New 70 Torino 429 cobra jet drag pac. Yellow with black trim. 430 Detroit locker , 4 speed hurst. He and I spent all day Saturday and Sunday morning installing big tube hookers on it. With Cheeter slicks and open headers it ran 12:20’s all day at the local track. I always loved the sound of that solid lift cam rattling under the hood.

68-69 Torino fast back prices are jacking up lately.

68-71 have went from 16k mint cars to 70k cars. For cobras. I passed on a 70 Cobra with a 429 auto gold with tan interior. for 16k in 2020 because it was too expensive for them. now they sell for 40-70k.

@@DominatorGarage but why? Didn’t they produced a lot back in the day? I totally understand why 1st gen mustang fastbacks are costing an arm and leg but for the Ford Torino I’m quite confused. They really aren’t as popular as the mustang but these prices are getting out of hand.

@@memecake9890 The cobras were/are very rare, despite what people say. VERY VERY rare and VERY VERY prone to rot out. all torinos were. from 68-76, bad designs. But The big block cars bring that. EVEN a GT with a 429 SCJ or CJ or even the TJ will bring big money. my 71 GT is a 351C 4v 4spd with buckets and console, power steering. and tach. The 351c 4v and buckets/console were very rare options with most being bench auto cars.

@@memecake9890 Because David Pearson won NASCAR in 1968 and 1969. Also, they are prone to rust, so there aren't as many in a condition for an easy restoration as some other models.

And I hope it continues so if my son doesn't want to keep it, he will be able to get something for my '69.

Torinos cost a fortune to restore. They also suffer from lack of popularity due to various body styles they were available. I’ve owned two. Will never sell my 71.

FYI AMD. Now reproduces many body panels for these cars now!

for 70-71 The quarters they sell are Sportsroof only and are not angled correctly, they sell as flat sheet of metal. FYI you have to basically fab the quarter.@@inharmsway526

Yes, I'm rebuilding one now. Part of what I like about it is that it's NOT a Mustang. Everybody has a Mustang, Camaro, Chevelle, Road Runner, or Charger. The problem is it's NOT a Mustang so it's been hard to find parts.

The reason we have the Road Runner Super Bird and the Charger Daytona is because of the '68 and '69 Torino Talladega. It was the first of the Aero cars and its long fastback gave it such an advantage in NASCAR Plymouth and Dodge had to take drastic measures to keep up. Also, in '69, '70 it ran in NASCAR with the legendary Boss 429 - which was homologated in the Mustang not the Torino.

@@maddenmadness if I knew what I know now, I probably wouldn't have traded it in along with a 79 tbird, for anv82 datsun 4x4. My grandfather collected cars and said, "you oughta let me put that in storage for you"...obviously I didn't listen.

Don’t forget, there were many other Torinos that just had different names: Ford Fairlane/Torinos: 71-73 Mustangs 68-79 Rancheros 77-79 LTD IIs 77-79 Thunderbirds. 68-79 Squire station wagons Mercury Comet/Meteor based: 71-79 Mercury Cougars 68-76 Mercury Montegos 68-76 Villager Station wagons
