In this video, i go over the forgotten Nintendo Switch Edition of Minecraft. I also compare it to bedrock edition on the switch a little bit. JOIN MY DISCORD! - / discord Tags: #minecraft #nintendoswitch #gaming #nostalgia
the fact that the relatively stable and beloved legacy console edition was completely replaced with bedrock which is notorious with having issues makes me so upset
the terrible performance of bedrock alone makes it barely playable. it lags on single player for no reason on my ps4, while the legacy edition on both my ps4 and ps3 runs smoothly af. im sticking to legacy
You got lucky, sadly i only got switch this year, maybe i will see if flash carts are safe, so my father let me buy one, this version got archived, witch is good
I don't mean to advertise, but I made a video about this version's quirks. Specifically, the weird and buggy things that are not found in modern versions of Minecraft (I believe they're tied to MC's Legacy Console Edition line). My favorite part of Minecraft Switch Edition is the elytra. I found out that, when equipped, you can sprint, keep the camera facing at a downward angle (but not straight down, more like ~45 degrees), jump with the A-button, and press the A-button again just before you land you activate gliding with the elytra, which gives you a slight speed boost on the ground when chained together. But then when you time the jump precisely you can glide out of a jump. And that's not even the best part! The best part is after a glide out of jumping, you can time another jump near-frame-perfectly and keep gliding. In this state, you move at the same speed of flying with the elytra but at ground level. I nicknamed this trick "elytra-hopping". I have not tried this going up block heights because of the very strict timing.
im pretty sure its an intentional reference to super mario 64's wing cap since the mario texture pack and skin pack is included with both the switch edition and the switch bedrock edition versions
a great thing about this version: go on a minigame and add everyone you play with keep doing this and soon you will be friends with everyone on this version then you can join their worlds and a lot of people have cool stuff, like simulators you kill mobs and trade the mob loot for better gear is pretty fun
I actually had the best times in my gaming experience in 2017-2018 adding people like everyone on my friend list are guys from minecraft, many of them aren't playing no more since the fortnite boom
Yeah it's basically the exact same thing lol. Although all the legacy console versions were the same. The only major difference about the switch version is that it never got a physical release, and was taken off the eshop, meaning it's not legally obtainable anymore unless you already owned it.
Randomly found your channel while surfing around to find stuff for a PSVITA(had just watched MC vita edition) and honestly I wish these videos were longer, I love listening to videos that are just people talking, already enjoying your videos even if I've only seen 2. This is great man.
I'm trying to get them a bit longer, but I find when I'm writing the scripts that I end up running out of meaning things to say. Although honestly there was a little more I could've talked about in this video that u only thought of after uploading it lol. I'll see if I can make these a little longer in the future.
This version of the game will forever be immortalized on DanTDM’s Nintendo Switch Minecraft let’s play. Honestly, this version of Minecraft is one of my favorites, but I don’t have it anymore.
i honestly watched this whole video think you would’ve had so many more subscribers. keep up the good quality content and you should hopefully grow in no time
Yeah I only just recently started actually trying with this channel lol. It started as basically just clips of me and my friends gaming but then I decided to try something different, and here we are. Crazy how far it's come in only like 2 months.
1.12 was the last update before minecraft seriously started to lose it's simplicity. So in that sense, this version of the game is the best way to experience classic Minecraft on Switch
I have this version I’ve had it for years I don’t play as much as I used to because I don’t play my switch that much but I know I have this game this version
i remember playing this version that came with me buying a second hand switch around 2018. if only i knew what treasure i had at my hands when i deleted the still existing accounts on this console
I still have this version of Minecraft and I remember playing the minigames and one world I spent most of my time on when I was younger, I had a whole double chest full of random enchanted items that shouldn’t be enchant-able
They need to bring back the console editions of Minecraft, console editions were basically the same as Java edition back then running smoothly and having the same redstone technology, while bedrocks redstone works completely different, bedrock is a mobile port (just like the gta trilogy) blown up on consoles, the console editions ran smoothly on each console it was made for, while I have recently switched from Xbox One to Xbox Series X and with bedrock edition I’m still experiencing the same performance issues I had encountered on my Xbox One, my Xbox Series X has zero performance issues with Forza Horizon 5 yet has a hard job to run Minecraft Bedrock, Microsoft needs to bring back console editions or create a console version of bedrock that isn’t compatible with mobile devices so that it runs like a console/pc game again
My friend has the legacy edition of minecraft. If I go to his profile and click on the game, it redirects me to the e-shop, but it doesn’t exist. I’m not going to the piracy route, if I want to play that edition, I could just go to my friends house or just borrow his switch.
More reasons why 4J Studios should buy the rights to Minecraft from Microsoft since they did such a fantastic job at porting Minecraft to home consoles and handhelds.
I loved playing the legacy console edition of minecraft as a kid. survival and creative modes were ok, (I find bedrock better in that regard) but the main grabber of this version for me were the minigames. I loved them so much offline, and when I was given temporary access to play them ONLINE, they were seriously addictive. that was so much fun
I love that you can migrate your world from Wii U to Switch Edition to Switch Bedrock Edition Also the only way to get custom superflat worlds on Bedrock Switch is to migrate them through the Legacy Edition lol
I have this version of minecraft. I mostly play it for nostalgia but also because of the performance, its more playable than the bedrock version for the switch.
ive got a copy of LCE for switch and ive noticed for playing minigames your best bet is trying to match with japanese players when theyre awake ...ive only noticed this because of my awful sleep schedule, but it feels worth noting it would of been interesting if you went a little more in depth about the minigames? im _heavily_ biased towards them because of what i do nowadays but i find it really interesting how much actual CARE went into them things like how battle has powerful chests that have very good gear in usually risky or hard to reach locations instead of every chest having the same loot table. tlTumble's layer generator being an actual GENERATOR, its not a few presets, it aftually has multipme stages to how the layers generate and the entirety of glide. i can not imagine how much effort into that. i dont blame you for not knowing this kind of stuff, i only know it so well because ive wrapped my head inside and out of a lot of the minigame stuff for the purpose of recreating it
I actually do know most of this stuff (LCE was my childhood minecraft, so I constantly go back to it.) But I didn't include most of that stuff because this was specifically about the switch version. Maybe in the future I'll make a sort of "ultimate LCE video" where I go over everything to do with the legacy console versions (that I can, of course.) Also thanks for the comment on switch minigames, maybe someday I'll take a look for a match at a later hour.
@@flaming62 i should mention its still not great, i usually find around 2-5 players in battle which, is kind of a preference thing for me but most of them are in custom games and the vast majority of custom games are infinite lives high power large cove ten rounds long large inventory hell im not really a fan of those game settings as it gets so repetitive with inf lives with one person getting all of the loot and becoming near unkillable
Nintendo Switch was one of the best console in my opinion since 2020 but i still not owned yet, i played minecraft PS4 edition since 2015 or 2016 on and that was best nostalgic and it’s the best version sadly i can’t have access to play the game but in future maybe i have access to play this version Edit: i gonna emulate the Minecraft PS4 version the last version and Minecraft Legacy Console Edition >>> Bedrock Edition
This version came out so close to the Switch's launch giving it pretty big disadvantage. You needed to buy a year one Switch (or year 2 if you for some reason buying a Switch between May and June), have a way to purchase eshop game (debit or giftcard), expect the consumer to not buy the amazing Switch exclusives or wait for a physical release (that was stated to come out eventually).
I had all this going for me, except I attempted to wait for the physical release 🥶 Now it will be one of the few legacy console versions I cannot play via official means
possibly, although bedrock would've been planned already at that point, which is the biggest part of what confuses me about the release of switch LCE. Idk if maybe releasing bedrock on switch wasn't originally planned or maybe it was a last minute idea or something, but its still kind of weird. not that I'm complaining.
unfortunately i never got legacy switch edition which is really unfortunate because i want to get my wii u worlds on pc and the only way to do that is convert to legacy switch, sync old worlds on bedrock switch, upload to realms on switch, download from realms on pc i would say the only objectively bad editions of minecraft are 3ds and bedrock switch you're definitely right about the performance, 4j did way better optimization than mojang, and they actually seemed like they cared about the game, because they added the tutorial world every update, and they actually made all of the dlc, rather than just having a marketplace to create all the dlc for them
something worth mentioning for performance is actual load times for things like opening the game or switching dimensions bedrock can take absolute ages starting up, and the dimension load times can be actually dangerous from a mob waiting at the other end to end up killing you before you can even see it
I wish I could've found a lobby. I got all excited to play some minigames but then there was nobody. Not a single public lobby. It was like a ghost town or something. Glad to hear you got a lobby though.
@Woffle8340 there are cartridges for bedrock edition, but no cartridges were ever released for legacy edition. As far as I'm aware, they planned to release a physical version at some point, but got replaced by bedrock before the legacy cartridges ever released.
On the PS4 and the PS5 legacy editions the last update was 1.14 or The Village and Pillage update since 1.15 or The Buzzy Busy Bees update was an update to add Bedrock Edition as the main edition because Java Edition needed too much RAM and CPU power oh and also I've only watched the first minute and it's good... I'm subscribing.
it's strange, whenever i do head on to play minigames, i end up encountering lobbies full of players. namely japanese players, it's nice to see them still active even if it's just around 12 people playing together.
I do have to warn you I played this version all the time there is a severe glitch where whenever you place a block in water or around water squids will no longer spawn from that water source because forever reason the game is programmed that touched by the player or modified in anyway, cannot spawn squids
I played this version for quite a while and actually never noticed this. Although to be honest, I never really placed blocks in water or searched for squids. I'll keep this in mind next time I play though.
@@flaming62 also I don’t know about lava, but you can’t place water for a water bucket in the end. You have to either place ice and break it or place water using a dispenser
Good news!!!! You can still play this version on a 1st revision cartridge! How do I know? Because I have one! If you put it in a switch that hasn't had minecraft yet you can still play the original version
It can only be in a switch that hasn't had it yet because there's a dumbass "feature" that forces you to re-download updates to play again. It HAS to be on a switch that hasn't had minecraft or just use suyu
The PS4 version is the latest updated version since it got Village and Pillage. But yes this version is also available on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS Vita.
me who managed to somehow obtain the wii u, switch, and xbox one versions of legacy: (in all seriousness, i wish the mini games from this version were in bedrock edition.)
Yeah I've been building my legacy collection aswell. So far I've got ps3, wii u, ps Vita, Xbox 360, and Switch. I'm only missing Xbox One and Ps4 editions. (Also yeah those minigames are peak minecraft. I really wish they would be brought to modern minecraft versions.)
It is still so baffling to me how poorly bedrock runs on switch when they already had a version that ran beutifully, I have not played bedrock on Switch in forever because whenever I want to play Minecraft on my Switch I just play the version that actually runs acceptably
I don't play the mini games much as I never had experience with them and it's literally noob vs Ninja master if so.. however I can find most games at times when it's daylight hours in Japan..you'll have plenty of tumble and battle. If you host a glide server, someone usually always joins, but with glide there aren't matches often running. Pm me for a game or a survival world I'd enjoy a friend to play this game with..
Bedrock on consoles in general is a bad joke. I played it for the first time on PS4 last month I was shocked by its performance and generally lame UI. Quite ironic considering MCE on PS4 is the most up to date version of MCE. I personally believe that Minecraft CE is the best Minecraft version, even Java isn’t quite as polished as it. Quite a shame that it isn’t updated anymore
I play legacy for 1 and a half of a year So based on the fact that you have the switch edition I assume you have played it on there for years and that's probably not fun still being on the same update
Yeah I've played the legacy switch version, and really LCE in general for years at this point. It all started when I was a kid playing minecraft on the ps3, and it's kind of grown to a love of the legacy console editions that still exists to this day.
I started playing Minecraft on bedrock edition in 2020 I really hated 1.18 when it realised and I still do so when it realised I started playing older versions and realized I enjoy them more than the new ones. A few months went by and I just found out about the console edition and it being on an old version so I bought the disc for it and still play it to this day
You mention Bedrock on Switch has poor performance and that's absolutely true. However there's a REALLY strange quirk with Switch Bedrock. If you install Linux on your Switch and emulate Minecraft Bedrock on Yuzu on the Switch running Linux, IT RUNS BETTER THAN THE SWITCH NATIVELY RUNS BEDROCK WHYYYYYY?!?!?!
Imo Bedrock Edition on console is worse than Legacy Console, sure Bedrock has my favorite server (The Hive) but the console optimisation is horrendous (it's worse than my phone).
I made the unfortunate mistake of buying Bedrock Edition on Nintendo switch.. that is some of the most unplayable garbage I have ever seen. For Laughs, I literally waited till night time(in game), and in 10 minutes, the game didn't even want to load a single chunk outside the chunk I was inside of. Then I started getting attacked by skeletons outside of the loaded chunk and died. There are very few games that I am willing to label unplayable, mainly because I know not every game is my cup of tea. But when the performance is so bad that you can't even play said game.. on the bright side, Nintendo gave me a refund on an online purchase because of how crap it was.
The video was specifically about how this version isn't obtainable on switch despite being (imo) better than bedrock on switch. The emulator was only used for footage since I don't have a capture card and I don't want to just point a camera at my screen. Everything im talking about in the video, and all the testing I did was on my real switch.
It's actually likely more so because bedrock edition is derived from Pocket Edition, which is optimized specifically for mobile devices like phones and tablets, not consoles. I know the switch is a little more powerful than my current phone (galaxy s21 ultra) which released in 2021. I can say this because I've emulated switch games on my phone before, and although they do run, they still run better on my switch.
The chunks just not loading for ages in bedrock isn't just on the switch it also happens on the ps4 version wich is also the one for the ps5 for some reason
Yeah. I understand it could be hard to believe but I actually did buy this back when it came out on switch, and since my switch is also a launch model, I was able to dump it a few months ago when I finally decided to jailbreak.
