So, I began my research to see what I could find about Ledbetter, Texas and was shocked to the lack of information I could find about this town, so I headed down 290 to see it in-person to see if it was a true ghost town hidden under everyone's radar...
I really hope you're enjoying the content and if you'd like to show even more support to my channel, then please feel free to join my Patreon! / thissmalltown

WriterConsidered, I thought about it, but people in smaller towns aren't really fans of doing on the street interviews with cameras pointed in their face by some random guy. Now, put a camera in somebody face in the streets of Houston and they'll tell you their whole life story with a one-man show.

I give you an A+ for the work that you put in. But I grew up in a town not too far from now, which is Waller, Texas and Prairie View Texas. And that's just the way that those towns are built, they're very old and people go to school, they finish high school, they move out, they go to college and another location or another city or state. And they don't return home only just to visit the elders, then decide to retire there. There's nothing ghostly or scary about that at all. It's just the way that those towns are made up. When I was a kid, I used to ride my bike to a lot of those places, and it was very interesting to see and it's good to see that those buildings are still there because it's just like a reminder to the heart and the spirit. Where your childhood came from. I'm a country part of my heart.A lot of interesting and beautiful memories about growing up in places like that

@@caddymane8303 Fellow Waller citizen here! I graduated from PV. I've lived here since I started college. Total of 15 years. Waller county, while very busy during the day definitely gives that old town, one horse feeling sometimes. Almost everyone knows each other. I still run into people I worked with years ago. 1992-1994, I went to college at Blinn in Brenham, not far from Ledbetter. I had several classes with a young lady named Robin, whose family owned (owns?) Stuermer Store. Each time I pass through Ledbetter (2-3 times per year) and see the store, I have a brief and happy flashback to my confused and outrageous college years. Seeing the store always gives me a smile.

My husband's grandmother used to work in the convenience store in Ledbetter. She also ran the grill at the old hall when they had monthly dances. We have family in Ledbetter, and some land farther down the CR, past the FD. Ledbetter is a lot safer than most other towns and I know at least our family are some of the sweetest, most welcoming people on the face of the earth. We have lots of family in that cemetary, and the pastor of the first church (Soul Cafe) is an incredible person.

I would suggest that before buying rural you contact the county's engineering department. think it's in Waller, you will only get city water for property an acre or more. Property under an acre is for mobile homes. I've been told, in another county that you must place your home on the back part of your property in case of eminent domain. There are a lot more, but contacting the county engineering department before buying is a must. @ coreypeacock

Most of the decedents of original property owners live there today. Prosperity on outskirts of town cattle raising, farming, gravel, and oil. The first blacks were 20 of Mr. Ledbetter slaves , nine were killed in the massacre, from the native Indians. The German settlers began claiming land in the late 1800's. A good rule of thumb in Texas, if the Dairy Queen has shut down the town has died. The last thing to go is the Post Office. Postal regulations require a certain population. When towns like Ledbetter were starting out, a big deal and sign of growth was when the town got a post office.

It's a pretty old town, with a few ghosts and lots of skeletons in closets LOL. I love living in a small town and I sure don't want to move back into the DFW Metroplex. We moved out here from Garland, TX and it was the best move! Little Alba with no grocery store, but we have that good ole Dollar General and 2 convenience stores. I'm not from around Ledbetter Texas, but I have actually passed thru there a couple times on my way to and from Austin years ago. I think you're probably confusing a small town where few people live with an abandon town where no one cares any more. While Ledbetter does have its share of distressed properties, I wouldn't consider it a "ghost" town, by any means. The fact that the post office is still open is some indication there are still people in the near vicinity if not in the town proper. The Volunteer fire department is another indication. Just because there are few houses in the town doesn't mean there aren't a flock of people living just outside what you're seeing to act as volunteers for the VFD. Texans love living the country life where if you can see a neighbor's house from your place, you're right on top of each other! Back about fifty years ago, my Dad brought me to the town of Fowlerton in South Texas where his older sister was born in the 1920's. All that was left of the town were foundations of where buildings had once stood and where the roads had once been paved. Fowlerton has since revived somewhat with the Eagleford fracking boom. Personally, that's what I would consider a ghost town, but your definition may be different.
@ThisSmallTown

So, I just checked it out and it definitely has a ghost town look, but almost too much of a ghost town, because I don't see enough that I can actually showcase in a video. Most of the properties is on private property and it doesn't have a lot of business buildings I can really show and talk about. Regardless, thanks for the suggestion! 😎

Well about the house and dead trees. In our field of services and what i teach my students is that when you see homes like that with dead trees eery vibes. That there could be some darker realmed beings there. The land spirits or fairies everyone has a name for them lol even nature angels. Which to me there all different. Some say there the same. When they are not able to safely be around. Thats when nature starts to look like this. There probably near by tending to near by. But not there. Even homes that are not abandoned same thing. if it is not cleansed and or not safe they will not tend to nature there. You will hear nature all around might see it to. But will not be there. Birds will be else where. They have ample of food there insects I'm sure. But will refuse to go to locations like that. Maybe other reasons to besides what i am mentioning. But i figured from our community of services like mediumship or paranormal investigating or supernatural etc. This is how we view this situations. But we still have to debunk things. And me i will but that is not my main focus for me. Some people it is. I hope this was a little helpful in some way.

We live in Ledbetter. There are quite a few businesses open there. And the Fire dept works their butt off with the accidents that happen on 290 and surrounding streets. Ledbetter has a lot of info if you asked the Homemaker Ladies that where at the FD that day.
@duetoronomy
@duetoronomy 2 месяца назад
I laughed a lot watching this😂 I'm glad you visited! There's actually a lot of us out here! You are really only visiting " in town." That tree looks spooky bc it's dead, you really shouldn't walk under there. That Crows Antiques is closed up bc they went up to Round Top to create a world renowned antique show. It's about 12 mins East up the road. You'll find some of the best pie in the country there, too. You probs drove past it. You didn't complete the entire town cuz I didn't see the home I raised a couple of kids in, it's right off 290, always afraid they would wander too close. My neighbor here still owns it. I've since moved - to a much much smaller town abt 30 mins West up 290. If you the tea on LB, you should just come into Giddings, where I work or Carmine and ask around. Most the ppl and the new construction is down the county roads all around town. They mostly own large pieces of land and thier older family members live in, or died in those old houses in town. It's pretty dead but ya a newer post office bc that place used to be much busier. We have ALL KINDS of real ghost towns all around us tho! Much smaller ones! Try to find info on a place called, "Hills." That's where I'm at now, all that is left is LITERALLY one cemetery and a small state issued name sign along 290. Our houses are mostly so far down our driveway you can't see them. There's lots of us out here, all with guns, definitely be careful near private property❤ We all have internet lol! I don't know anyone who has better internet that I do!! Idk how😂 but it works. Also, you might look into Serbin Tx, its about 30 mins away also! It's full of history and actually is pretty big, but with no actual "town." Except the church/school/cemetery and the museum. There's a few historical buildings, probably abt 6 in total. There's lots of ppl, but you don't see more than abt 6 houses. There's an adult baseball team (that kicks everyone elses ass all around here actually) and a fire department a few miles away that serves all these tiny towns as there really are a lot. Btw, that information you're looking for on LB would be found on the Fayette County, TX website.
