My local shop still had one of these on the shelf. After watching your video, I went back and picked it up. Tons of fun. Been rippi g it in the snow here in New York. I have a 6s revo also and I gotta say. The stampede isn't as fast, but it's no less fun. Thanks man. There's a reason they made that chassis for so long.
Thanks fro another great video. I agree that the Stampede is forgotten about or at least not talked about. I think it's versatile and a lot of fun. Several years ago there was a guy named Jang on the Ultimate RC RU-vid channel that had series of videos about the 4wd Stampede. It was called "Shapeshifter." He converted the 4wd Stampede into different types of trucks. He converted it to a 4WD Rustler when there wasn't a 4WD Rustler and put a 4S lipo in it. Some of the others conversions were a 1/10 truggy, a trail truck, a 4wd SCT, a Dakar Rally car, a 4WD sedan, and a 1/10 4WD buggy, The series showed how to lower the ride height, fit different types of bodies, use different Traxxas parts, using different tires, etc. If you haven't seen it you may want to check it out.
Hey Mark! So I made a huge discovery, I bought the rear x01 shafts with the rear knuckles and bearings and you won't believe it but they actually fit the Traxxas Rustler 2wd! Definitely a worthy upgrade better than the 1951r shafts.
Just have to lower the body and remove some shock spacers and/or adjust the shock angle and it gives it a super low profile look and also makes a huge difference with the CG. I have no rolling issues and it looks amazing. I have the 4x4 and it’s super light and super fast
Words to live by. I live near the beach & never taken my RC’s to it. Which is funny because today after finding a good rock area I was going to go check it out but went to our local lake instead. I kept thinking that the salt & sand would not be good for the RC’s. So ya you better spray them off & lube everything ASAP. I was fishing with a regular combo & after a few seized up I had to get a salt specific set up with everything stainless. I have no more issues now. But even if you don’t go near the salt water it will rust & could seize up.
I love the Stampede. It is such a lighthearted truck bouncing all over the place. I add weight in the front to my friends to help his driving skills even out.
my old old neighbours were so amazingly kind to give me an upgraded one. I had broken the motor on it a fee years back and look forwards to repairing it
I run a Stampede 4x4 with MIP drive shafts and Proline Trenchers. Thing is a wheelie monster. My wife drove it for the first time a few weeks ago and her comment when it would do standing backflips was, "is this thing really that stupid fast?" lol!
@John Lujan I wish I could put more money into mine but I’m still a kid and can’t get a job unless i give up all my extracurriculars and fail my classes lol
Why? So you can pay the same as a rtr but have to build it? They need to make kits like all the big boy companies like losi amd associated or tekno. They need to make a slash ultimate kit with all the upgrades and the option to buy it without there junk electronics. not some junk rtr not assembled for the same price. Other companies a rtr is a down grade from the kit so they can add the electronics amd make money. Associated has there dr10 for 299 if you buy the kit it's 199 with no electronics. Both are rtr but ones cheaper. There race kit is the same price as the rtr but has all the upgrades you would need but no electronics. Traxxas would never do that because they love screwing there consumers over and want you to buy there own stuff just like them not selling there battery connectors forcing you to only run there batteries or cut everything off amd void your warranty. Traxxas is a horrible company. There like Apple expensive as hell and ain't worth a shit
@@bazis98 sort of. The slash platinum was only a 4x4 amd was fully assembled with no electronics. Amd it's was 429 lol. A kit is something you build from scratch like there 2wd kit is now. That was just buying there rtr with no electronics
@@reidisaacson9623 if you can find batteries with that plug. Traxxas does not sell there plugs anymore. Most am batteries have deans xt60 90s tamyia or ec5 plugs. You won't find any battery other the Traxxas with there plug on it anymore and ally local hobby shops say the same thing. Traxxas stopped selling there plugs to the public. They want you to use there stuff and only there stuff.
once I realized I didn't have the room to really bash with it, unless I made a special travel trip, I turned it into a crawler. Best crawler I've had to date; locked the diffs, 9t pinion, hh Crawlmaster, changed the servo to a 35kg, changed to longer travel shocks, and Pro Line Trenchers. Won't get you into a SORRCA event, but for just some fun crawling it was a great rig.
Man galveston is a dump! I drove 9 hours for my daughter's 16th birthday back in late September. She had never been to the ocean. It wasn't what I remembered as a kid. You go one block from the seawall amd that shit looked like Compton. My airbnb looked like the projects from Friday's or some shit. Definitely were some old pictures they posted online about the place. Poor girl was in the water 15 min got stung by a jellyfish. They were everywhere!! Even the flags were green not purple. Place has gone down hill. I wouldn't be bragging about being in the dirty smelly brown water cost haha
Hey Mark I take mine to the beach and as long as you thoroughly rinse it off with fresh water as soon as your done it wont rust. Learned that from my fishing gear. Also I lowered the body on the stampede as low as it would go and it looks so much better I hated how high it sat. I dont remember if I had to cut the body post or not but It came out awesome. Love the stampede thanks for the video!
In all honesty, I think the Hoss just shouldn't exist. The Hoss is this weird middle thing between the Rustler and the Maxx. Which should be filled by an updated Stampede since it has been around for so long. They should have just redid the Stampede platform and named the Hoss the Stampede instead of competing within their own vehicle line.
I think the real forgotten Traxxas is the Telluride, little brother to the Summit. It's been discontinued but even so it's barely mentioned since it's a worse Monster Truck than the Stampede and a worse crawler than the TRX4. Summit atleast gets off with being in the middle ground since it's big enough to be versatile but the Telluride isn't. Shame though since it has a really nice body shell on it.
First rc I ever bought was the 2wd vxl stampede, I love that little truck and enjoy the challenge of keeping the 2 wd upright lol I beat the shit out of it, had to replace a couple things but it's still going strong
So confused by this video. I have 2 of these trucks 4wd brush and 2wd brushless. Nothing you said was wrong or incorrect. But watching it run on the beach. I was like what truck is he talking about because the running video was really good.
For a traxxas 4x4 you really only need a Maxx. I don’t know why anyone would purchase a Stampede or Hoss at all. 🤷♂️ If you’re spending $400-480 might as well go $550 and get the Cadillac.
The hoss is a good truck i have two hoss’s and two maxx’s and go back and forth between them and I have three slashes a bandit and two wheel drive rustler all are brushless and on 3s except the maxx’s those are on 4s and I will be getting a xmaxx here in a few weeks
I definitely didn't forget about the Stampede 4x4, have 2 of them and I love them! However, I do feel like the Rustler 4x4 and Hoss 4x4 are basically the updated versions of the Slash 4x4 and Stampede 4x4. Basically a Slash 4x4 Ultimate 2.0 and Stampede 4x4 2.0. Kinda makes those older models obsolete. Either way, the Stampede 4x4 is still a great platform and you can do a ton with it, especially if you want to build something custom. One of my Stampedes has super grippy tires and will actually do standing backflips on 2s with the stock electronics. The other one I threw in a Hobbystar 3664 2950kv motor, same size as the Hoss motor, and I also put in a center diff. Yes, it does bunny hops, it destroys stock driveshafts, and it rounds out wheel hexes like crazy. It's a lot cheaper building that used truck into a Hoss than to buy a brand new Hoss, but it does all the same things and it's a ton of fun! Also, I put MIP X-duties on that truck pretty quick when the stock ones kept breaking, and the X-duties hold up a lot better so I'd try those for your Hoss.
I like the Stampede 4x4 kit. It's a great kit to learn how 4x4 works for new people. For such a short wheelbase brushed with 2S LiPo is more than enough. If you want bigger and faster Traxxas offers better options. I generally learn towards 2WD but the Stampede 4x4 is one of my favorites.
I went the other way. Took my Slash 4x4 to a Stampede. Parts were only like 40 bucks from an ebay chop shop. Now I am saving for a Maxx. Once I get it, I will convert mine back to a Slash 4x4
I got mine back in 2012 or so. Back then it was pretty awesome for the price. Nowadays its to expensive. The only stampede worth getting are the 2wd. With all the competition from over brands and from Traxxas I don’t see the 4x4 going on for long.
@@bagofdickweed_rc I love mine too, but as much as I love it, I don't drive it ever b/c I'm afraid one of these days parts won't be available and it will happen to be the day I break something major like the chassis or bulkheads, etc...
@@foellerd Well I mean I guess we will see but look at the E-Maxx. Got discontinued when big brother came out. And I mean the Hoss, it’s kinda the stampedes big brother. The only reason why they would keep it now is because it’s a starter car. Other than that, no point.
For anyone who doesnt know the hoss is the new generation stampede 4x4. If you get low profile body mounts you literally have a hoss lol Edit: i will ALWAYS take a stampede over a "HoSs" just the name alone is a huge turnoff 😂
Stampede isnt forgotten. With the center diff out of the hoss, i still think the stampede wins. You're 100% right about the power system, the stampede hits the sweet spot, the hoss is a bit much for the size of the truck, ends up being way worse for rollovers than the stampede. Im still running the old brushed 2WD grave digger stampede, they're a lot of fun and i can hand off the remote to basically anyone and not worry if my truck is going to survive their driving 😂
I'd classify a stampede as beastly backyard basher. With a hoss, I feel like you'd need to take that thing somewhere to make proper use of it. At present I'm wanting the new stampede bl2s with some oba :)
SLP! Are you in the houston area?! I just bought my first rc finally living my childhood dream!! Got a Hoss from RC shop in SW side & fan came off & lost in 15mins >
It's a good thing, the more there are the more aftermarket parts get released, which makes the price of the parts come down. Same reason a stater for a Lamborghini is astronomical compared to a 2000s Chevy truck. 'Economy's of scale' matter in these cases. Like was mentioned, I can still get parts for my first edition 5608 E-Revo Castle powered Brushles model from 2010. Plentiful and cheap too.
The Stampede just reminded me of the mid-late 90's. I remember when it came out and there was so much hype about it. They were pretty much all sold out for months.
After throwing a HCG slash chassis on my stampede, I like it a lot more... also installed 1/8th electronics on it and sledghammers. Pretty crazy on 4S. Far cry from when I first got it and tooled around on 2S all the time.
