Oh my goodness!!! This song I haven’t heard in years, I went back in time, lovely memories!!! Thank you Craig for recommendation and Harri for such a great reaction!! ♥️🎼👏🏻🌷🤩✌️
This could be my favorite song from the 70s. Something about the crescendo vocals, the interplay of all the instruments. I just love this song. Thanks for the reaction!
One of my favorites - I would go to the city pool all day every day in the summer that year - the radio was on the whole time and it was such a great summer for music!
I remember the Fortunes ..... they had hits in the 60s and early 70s. They were a second division group compared to The Beatles, Stones, Who, Kinks, Hollies but they were often around the charts with pleasant tuneful pop songs !
I love it when one of my favorite commentators loves one of my favorite songs. This was from 1971, and as usual you nailed the time period precisely. It never got airplay as an oldie, although you do hear their much earlier first hit, :"You've Got Your Troubles, I've Got Mine."
Just jumped off a plane to hear this great classic. Their 3rd top 40 hit in the US, this is just a melodic masterpiece which is timeless and classic. Lead singer Rod Allen, has the same vocal technique as Frankie Valli displayed beautifully here. The captivating harmonies, melodic guitar riffs, the xylophone and the beautifully arranged orchestration compliments the poignant lyrics. Made it to Number 15 in the US, Number 12 in Canada and Number 51 in the UK. Beautiful memory. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Craig. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
I had kind of forgot about this song. Funny the way the lyrics came back to me while listening. As soon as a line was completed the next line popped back to memory.
This song came out during my senior year in high school and I have spent the entire time since then thinking this was Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons! I love the song and have heard it dozens of times and had the artist wrong. I feel rather foolish. Anyway, thanks Craig and Harri for setting the record straight 🌺✌️
The Fortunes were an English harmony beat group from Birmingham. Their first big hit was "You've Got Your Troubles" in 1965. They had other hits such as "Here It Comes Again", "Storm In A Teacup", "Freedom Come, Freedom Go" etc. The Fortunes also recorded an advertisement for Coca-Cola in the US. First in 1967 "Things Go Better With Coke" & also in 1969 "It's The Real Thing".
I recall this and other hits by the Fortunes and assumed for years they were black. Imagine my surprise when, fifteen years later, I saw them on an old pop tv show. Great stuff guys.
Wow! I know this song -remember it well -but I guess I always assumed it was Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons… sound quite similar to them! Thanks for straightening me out!
Harri when you listen to this is just pure Beautiful, harmonizing music they were Fabulous, I Love when they sing the hit "" You Got Your Troubles I Got Mine " Thanks for the memory Harri.
It’s so surprising to me that some of my favorite songs are sung by bands I’ve never heard of, lol. I can sing along with every word, but I’ve never heard of the Fortunes before today. Crazy, man!
The Fortunes also recorded an early version of "Seasons in the Sun" in 1969 which later on was a huge hit for Terry Jacks in 1973-'74. The Fortunes' version was a hit in Holland. Here it is: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mnH-0QLFE70.html
In this particular song, they have a combination sound like The Archies and like Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons... I'm old enough to remember watching them in the mid 60's... I'm an old man Harri😂 66-->keep bringing back good memories memories n more memories 😊 hey here's a good one for you Mr Best A group called Badfinger: song? 🎉I remember finding out about you🎉
I am transported back to summer evenings in NC in the early 70s, I can smell the air, I can smell how the house my first crush lived in, I can hear thunder in the distance on a warm, honeysuckly Carolina July evening anticipating being with my first puppy love again. Siggghhh. Where did those times go????
I was out of town 700 miles from home and when I was ready to drive back home - I had been sleeping and when I woke up this song was playing in my head!! Great memories of this song…♥️
This was one of the "summer songs of my life", of warm, muggy Carolina evenings, of puppy loves and first crushes, of the smell of honeysuckle on a languid summer's eve, of youth, possibilities and joy. This is a true, happy auditory gem from The Fortunes. God, but the 70s were LOADED with gems like this. The Rain ne coming again, but the feeling is one of pure JOY.❤😊Thank you, Gray D., for being a huge part of my life then. This is one of the songs we grooved to.
Nice choice. This group was really a British invasion band; but really did not make it in the US & went back to England, where they continued to have smashing success. They spearheaded a sound know as "Merseybeat," (out of Birmingham UK) but as good as it was, with that percussion & harmony-driven sound ... it was these melodic, melancholy, orchestrated ballads (similar to the Moody Blues) that gave them US fame. Frankie Valli was being pushed as a solo artist and this song was so reminiscent of the Four Seasons. Just all the right pieces at the right time. Thanks again.
Love that tune! have not heard that song since it was played on Saturday night at the seventies. there are so many wonderful memories in these long-lost gems. Thanks Craig and Harri.
