You have wandered into a legendary band who have possibly one of the saddest stories in rock and roll. One of the first bands to be signed to the Beatles, Apple label. Also supported and produced by the Beatles. It all seemed to be a golden road for Badfinger but criminal management and record labels ripping them off leading to 2 suicides by band members. Beautiful music but touched with sadness when you realize the tragedy it led to. Have a listen to Baby Blue next.. another awesome song.

Badfinger was signed to the Beatles Apple label, Pete Ham was the principal writer, though the guitarist co-wrote several. Paul McCartney wrote their first hit, 'Come & get it' some of their most popular & best are 'No Matter what' 'Baby blue' The album 'Straight up' a great play on their name. Was one of the best LP's Day after day & Baby blue were on it. 3 others from that album 'Id die babe' 'Perfection' & 'Name of the game' are great songs & Perfection is ahead of it's time. George Harrison produced several of the songs I mentioned on the album he produced. They (Pete) wrote 'Without you' & let Nielsen release what became a smash hit for him. When they had to leave Apple Pete wrote 'Apple of my eye' a love song to his disbanding label. To give you an idea who they are. Or were, sadly. Love your channel & can see the genuine love you two share & bring to the channel. Beat the odds &never lose sight of the beautiful gift of a true love in your life, easier when your kids are around, just always communicate & never let your head hit the pillow mad, & you'll last together till you're on your rockers, talking about your favorite songs, as they become the soundtrack to your life & love. I had 28 great years till alcoholism a family curse on both sides, the reason I never drank, beyond one with the group after gigs, being the lead singer I had to be aware of what Steven Tyler gave the perfect definition, LSD Lead singer disorder Lol! Take care & always remember to make each other smile.

Huge Badfinger fan here, glad you've taken the plunge into their catalog. Most replies have already alerted you to the hits, so a few deeper cuts I would recommend from them are "Name of the Game," "Suitcase," "I Miss You," "Just a Chance," and "Meanwhile Back at the Ranch/Should I Smoke." The latter two songs are from their album WISH YOU WERE HERE, which would have been a stone classic but because of their corrupt manager, the album was pulled from stores and radio, which initiated all the tragic events that followed.

Loved this song... was mine and my first boyfriend's song. George Harrison played slide guitar on this one along with Leon Russell on keyboard. Badfinger was so talented and perhaps has the most tragic story in rock history.

Paul McCartney wrote their first hit "Come and Get It" and they were the first band to sign to the Beatles label, owing it that they come from Liverpool. Peter Ham, the main songwriter was from Swansea. Wales. Ham and Tom Evans were the band's songwriters. They wrote Without You together, one writing the verse the other the chorus which became a worldwide hit after Nilsson covered it a few months after their original release. There have been documentaries about this band because it all ended in tragedy, their American manager exploited them and tied them up to a contract they couldn't get away from. They ended up living in near-poverty while penning hits on the charts. Both Ham and Evans committed suicide.

Love this group. Badfinger were a Welsh rock band from the 60's-80's. They became the first group signed by the Beatles' Apple label. Paul & George wrote & produced a few songs for them. They had some really big hits such as "Come & Get It", "No Matter What", "Day After Day", "Baby Blue" & "Without You". This group had quite a sad history. The band had bad mismanagement & lost most of their money, two members committed suicide & one died of a brain aneurysm.

It makes me happy to see the Young Folks discover this great music that the older folks like me enjoyed when we were kids. I'm so glad you discovered this great band. I hope you get a chance to listen to No Matter What. You might be surprised again!

Many Rock power-pop songs from the 70s and 80s are derivative of The Beatles, but Badfinger more than most. It's because they were a Beatles project if you will. After signing with Apple records, (The Beatles label) they had a vested interest in their success; subsequently they were in the studio producing many of the songs on their albums

It's not really close to Paul's voice. The instrumentals and arrangement have the influence of Paul and George and the studio team, but you can't mistake the vocals.
@merlball8520
@merlball8520 2 года назад
@@tjhunger8644 Badfinger was not a "Beatles project". The influences are Paul and George, post-Beatles. Most importantly there's no touch of John's influence in this. Frankly, this is better than anything The Beatles produced. Paul, George, and Ringo all produced better music after the breakup of The Beatles. They were better vocalists, better instrumentalists, better directing their own studios, better at working with and singing with other artists. Everything about them was better in terms of quality after The Beatles. In contrast, the Beatles were derivative of every lesser known band they mimicked their sounds from. They didn't sing well together, and when a trend came along they produced inferior versions of that music. I.e. garage band, psychedelic, hard rock, orchestral, protest, folk. And frankly, I think Paul, George, and Ringo were more enlightened in the 70s. For one, Paul truly fell in love and it translated into his work. George and Ringo just seemed to have a better grasp of music. Or maybe, the three of them were held back by the studio teams and John and Yoko all along. Regardless, one thing is for sure- they sounded way better not singing together. The Beatles were the best marketed band of the 60s and perhaps all time. They were commercial and cultural phenomenons. But, imo, their music was and is incredibly overrated. And, each of them were much better individually than they were together. An opposite of the "greater together than the sum of their parts" axiom.

Hey there Jay and Amber! 👋🏾 I love your channel! ❤️ I wish you would react to "Brother To Brother" by Canadian singer/musician Gino Vannelli. The album version of the same title. His voice and musical arrangements are phenomenal!! You don't know what you're missing! I promise you won't be disappointed!! 👍🏾

The story of Leon Russell on piano is great. Supposedly, they called him in to do the piano parts and he's listening to them do the song and they were like, " Is he going to do anything?" And what you have is what he came up with just listening in. Genius. That house I believe was the house they were living in together as their manager was robbing them blind, they were basically broke which led to 2 members committing suicide. Other greats are /No Matter What....../ Baby Blue..../ Without You.../ Apple of My Eye!

I believe these guys were dubbed to be “The Beatles of the 70’s”. Such a tragic story about these guys. Pete Hamm had an amazing voice! And Tom Evans falsetto is amazing as well! You guys have to react to “No Matter What” and “Without You”!! 🤟🤟🤟

I’m having so much fun watching your reviews! Badfinger is one of my fave 70s bands. First non-Beatles signed to the Apple label and had their seal of approval. This song’s piano and guitar is signature George Harrison sound!
