When l was a junior in high school, my Dad gave me a mare that was a granddaughter of Two Eyed Jack . She also had Oklahoma Star in her pedigree . Raised several great colts out her . She lived long enough to teach my 3 kids to ride . Loved our Classy Mount aka Patty .

I had a grandson of Three Bars.(on both his dam and sires sides) He was a great all around horse and he loved to run.Very powerful, fast and smart.He would open his stall latch then he opened all the other horses stalls.I had my barn inside the pasture so it really didn't matter.My kids even used him for 4H.His name was Tontos Clyde 411.He was a big red roan with lots of chome.

I was in high school and worked for Doc Hamby in Monthomery AL ! He raced quarter horses! He had a horse out of three bars and three chicks out of Texas! He used their horse only as a stud horse! I came to the barn early on morning and saw the huge beautiful stud in a stall! I opened the door and went in and started brushing him! I put the brush under his belly and he stretched out the length of the stall! And his mouth was twitching so I knew I had found his sweet spot! Doc walked up to the stall door and very quietly said “Hey buddy come with me to the tax room! When I latched the door closed behind me and looked up, doc was walking toward the tax room! But both of his arms were in casts ?? He said that hires blew up backing out of the trailer! And came back on dock then reared up and broke docs arms! I was the only one Pay Roll Money would not pin his ears back at! I’d work him daily and eventually got on his back with a head halter on ! We walked out into the pasture and we rode till he saw the lake and walked in! It was a hot summer morning! That became our ritual every day!

I DON'T CARE FOR THE MUSIC, BUT THE PICTURES ARE GREAT. YOU CAN SEE A LOT OF THESE PICS IN NELSON C. NYE'S "COMPLETE BOOK ON QUARTER HORSES", WHICH I'VE HAD SINCE ABOUT 1971. I USED TO DO BUSINESS WITH CHARLES MICKLES WHO OWNED THE MICKLES VALLEY VIEW RANCH IN SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA. HE OWNED VANNY BARS & REBEL CAUSE AT THE TIME. HE CAN'T STILL BE ALIVE. THE '70s WAS A TIME OF FANTASY & ENCHANTMENT IN THE QUARTER HORSE WORLD. THREE BARS WAS PROBABLY THE GREATEST QH STUD OF ALL TIME. I WONDER HOW MUCH INBREEDING OCCURRED. THE SAME CAN BE SAID OF POCO BUENO. HE TOO WAS QUITE PROLIFIC.

Actually, my QH mare missed foundation status by 3 points because she has Three Bars in her heredity. Three Bars is an honorary Quarter Horse because of his conformation and his influence on the breed. I got my mare for a pittance, and she has Sonny Dee Bar as her grandsire, and the Invester as her great grand sire. She has the Invester's face and personality, lol

There are a lot of neat photos of Three Bars on Pinterest. It's not too hard to get on there. I just do it to look at foundation Quarter Horses and Morgans. By the way Three Bars was a Thoroughbred. He made his mark in the Quarter Horse world.
@penelopelopez8296
@penelopelopez8296 2 года назад
I believe a thoroughbred named, Azure Te, also helped develop the breed. Three Bars was not the only Thoroughbred being used to develop the quarter horse breed. Then there was Rough ‘n Tumble another thoroughbred that influenced the quarter horse breed. I know there were three thoroughbreds that were specifically used to influence the breed….do some in depth research and really dig in the records. You’ll see. Some of the great race quarter horses of the day have one of those three TBs in their bloodlines; Jet Deck, Easy Jet, Go Man Go, etc..

They do. They were actual quarter horses bred for ranch work. They had to be strong and hearty. I’m not sure what breed we have today but the last time I watched a western pleasure class I was horrified and the last time I watched a hunter class I thought I was watching thoroughbreds. It’s all specialized now…….every discipline is specialized. Years ago when I went to a quarter horse show….you brought one horse to the show for all the classes you wanted to compete in. Today, people being five or six horses to the show. They have one specialized horse for each class. It’s awful what most of this breed has become. There are still some ranches out there where you buy foundation bred horses but they’re a working breed and not what many would consider a show horse.

Although most modern day champion QH's are descendents of Three bars such as Doc Bar, Smart Little Lena, High Brow Cat, (cutting horses). Zippo Pine Bar, Zips Chocolate Chip, (western pleasure). Topsail Cody, Topsail Whiz, (reining). Impressive, Conclusive, (halter). Three Bars would not be considered a foundation QH because he was a thoroughbred noted for giving the foundation QH more athletism.

Three bars helped develop the breed. Imagine breeding Three Bars to a Percheron or small draft breed mare……what do you think you would get from that breeding…..something that very much resembles a foundation bred quarter horse. They got that heavy muscling in the hind quarter from somewhere. Think about this…..breed a thoroughbred to a draft horse…..you get a warm blood…..a jumper with good heavy bone like you see today at the big gran prix jumping events.

Must be Hancock , Big Blue Roan Cow horse , I think out of WY ? Can't recall . Great looking Horse though , he was one pictured and listed in Western Horseman Magazine featuring AQHA Foundation Sires , I think . Might have been back in the late 80s or 90s sometime the magazine issue , not Hannock . But I remember Joe Hanncock , he wasn't a Blue Roan . Maybe it was Blue Valentine , seems the horse ended up in TX . before it was over and threw Blue Roan get pretty often and the cow sense , too .

Rugged Lark? Born 1981 and died 2004. Very nice stallion-but Foundation sire? AQHA was chartered in 1940, so Rugged Lark isn’t really who I think of as a Foundation Sire. Zippo Pine Bar was born in 1969 and died 1998. He’s among the most influential sires and probably THE most influential pleasure horse sire, but not what I’d think is a Foundation sire. Perhaps if your very nice video was titled, “Influential AQHA sires,” it would be a bit more in common with usual usage. AQHA website: The American Quarter Horse breed is based on 11 foundation families of horses, and almost all of them are related in some way. The term “foundation-bred” today relates back to these 19th and early 20th century dominant Quarter Horse sires. The Bloodlines of the Breed exhibit at the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum traces the bloodlines of foundation sires including Lock’s Rondo, Old Billy, Printer, Peter McCue, Steel Dust, Roan Dick, Traveler, Shiloh, Little Joe, Old Fred, and Old Cold Deck. But I do like and appreciate your nice video!
