I had geese when I was a kid. It was way better than having dogs. They defended the entrance much better, and they were amazing to me. I have very fond memories of it. I can't wait to have a house where I can have ducks, geese and chickens again. They are marvelous.

I have raised geese. They will chase off a stray cat or dog. A person that they don't know. They're very protective over the person that raises them. Best guard dogs you could ever want. They will honk and holler let you know something or somebody it's coming. Little grandma has four of them to protect her. And they will attack and when they bite. It is very painful and you'll have a bruise. Keep guarding grandma geese.

I raised a flock of four goslings from the time that they were a week old. Two were Angels and two were devil's. They are definitely a one person pet. They are a lot of fun, but also a lot of work and my little female gave me the most delicious eggs. I used their fertilizer and pool water in my kitchen garden, collected their feathers and used those and the empty egg shells for crafts. They are the best guards and they are not expensive to keep.They are not for everyone (they can be loud and in most places you have to be zoned for farm animals). They can also bite very hard and my fiance has likened them to raptors (which they are).

@Peter Aremone I only had one goose and three ganders, but they were separated, so the eggs were not fertilized. I suggest separating the males and females if you plan on using the eggs for consumption.

My university has 2 geese. 1 usually just stays at the bottom of the hill pond with the ducks but sometimes 1 of them goes up to the cafeteria area and I get to pet it when it's face isn't fixated on me. If I go down the hill pond to pet the same goose, it becomes aggressive, I guess it doesn't want me in their territory but it coming to the canteen area is fine lol. Well I pet the goose any chance I get when it comes up the hill

A girl I dated after high school had Geese. Hated them at the time because I could never "sneak" her home after her curfew because the Geese were always on patrol honking and waking the family. their hearing and territorial instincts made it impossible to try to sneak her home without them knowing. Her father, who used the geese to alert him of intruders, was a brilliant man. LOL!
