OK, I'm old, and that's got to be taken into consideration in this remark. Mom on the bass is the coolest woman in the room! Quiet, upstage (not at the table) but solidly and elegantly THE beat and at the bottom line of the entire sound! Yeah! Mrs. Peterson.

It's all about arrangment. Knowing when to play/sing, when to leave space, and the ending sings, with the majority of the instruments riffing on the melody. Brilliantly done. This music teacher is using this in my class!

Excellent version of this American folk song. We used to sing this around the campfire when I was a young boy (mid 70's in CA). Went to see nickel creek at a bluegrass festival in 2000, and they performed this tune. Memories came flowing back as they slayed this song. Very small correction, it is Old Mrs. flipper flopper, instead of old gray woman. Excellent musicianship on this video!!

I listen to all types of music, but every time I come across a bluegrass group that brings it to the top, my foot starts tapp'in, I get a great big smile, and it makes me gently cry with joy. Does anybody else get this? Tell me I'm not crazy.

When I was little, I had a children's book based on this song. I was learning to read, and I thought it was odd that the story would say things like town-o, town-o. My mom then explained to me that it was a song, and she sang it for me. She would sing it for me other times too, whenever I'd bring it up. My mom passed away last year, and shortly afterwards I stumbled across this video - the only time I've ever heard this song performed besides my mom. Thank you, Ger, and the Petersens for this beautiful performance! It connects to me on a very personal level!

I produce a weekly syndicated bluegrass radio show, and as a result i listen to a LOT of bluegrass every week. This group is as tight and professional as any I have ever played on my show in 25 years. They all know their stuff and every note is precise and exactly where it should be. It's a delight to listen to the Petersons. They could sing the phone book and it would still make me smile.

Wow, simply WOW! I can't describe how much that performance meant to me. I used to hear that song in Nashville with my college roommate who has since passed from pancreatic cancer and it brought back great memories. Only The Petersens and Ger O'Donnell could do it justice. Kudos to all.
