This is impressive considering it's a solo project

I’m still surprised to what degree, the guy excels at everything. I played through the game before learning the fact, with elements like the art and music really leaving a mark. Before I had finished the second level, I had paused the game and bought the soundtrack just by how great it sounded. It’s inspiring, it makes me what to expand the things that I do.

the game is really impressive, almost as much as your headshot aim, holy shit it's like an autoaim to the head :D

Haha, thanks. I used to play a lot of black ops zombies, probably more than the multiplayer, and I'd compete with friends over who could get the most headshots. It made it the only thing to aim for, even if missing shots against other people almost always meant death, lol.

Nice gameplay

I appreciate it, thanks 🤘 I enjoy playing aggressive: it looks as visually fun as it feels. The only thing I wish I could have featured more was the dodge; I realized the mechanic too late into the game.

@solojonathan same, i discovered the dodging mechanic by using a controller. It's weird It's not told in the first level

@@gabrielblanchard3081 Haha, I'm glad I wasn't the only one. Definitely is weird: I learned about it while gathering footage of Cultic's options--after beating the game, lol. It's kind of funny how even if FPSes generally use the same keys, how it's sometimes easier to discover or do things with a controller. That's happened to me with a few games. Since the slide is so versatile, I figured it was taking its place.

There are so many boomer shooters today, and after hearing about cultic for the first time, I wasnt impressed. It was probably because I didnt like Blood (game that cultic was inspired by), I didnt like how hitscans would shoot you the same moment you came out of a corner, it felt cheap and unfair. Also looking at gameplay of cultic on video, it doesn't look as impressive when you are watching it. But man was I wrong, I decided to give it a try recently, and what a blast it was. It also improved upon blood, enemies are hitscans but they give you a chance to react, there is maybe about a second or two before they start shooting after you peak out of cover. Allowing you to "abuse cover" popping in and out, killing them without taking any damage. I was playing on very hard (second highest difficulty), but after seeing how the game is well balanced, I wont mind to jump in on the highest difficulty next time. I fell in love with the game very quickly, I relied on the pistol for most of the game, and upgraded it first (all except the burst ability). It was my main source of damage for a good part of the game. Due to relying on the pistol, I was always stacked with ammo for other guns, never having any issues. Whenever I needed the lever action rifle or FG42, ammo was almost full, and I was using them only when necessary. For close encounters I relied on the double barrel shotgun, it seemed kind of weak at first but after upgrading it, it becomes a beast. There was also clear inspiration from RE4, the starting pistol (Red9), the cultists remind me of enemies from the castle and the shields of course. There is even a typewriter present in the game lol, but its only cosmetic. Cultic became one of my favorite shooters, Im looking forward to Chapter 2. Its a game that I will keep coming back to time and time again.

The first few levels of Blood are rough. After hearing praise in videos, I decided to jump in-seeing it as an FPS rite of passage, lol. I wanted to feel cultured, chiefly since the niche is one of my favorites, so I pushed on, finding the game to be good. To the point I went for a second playthrough. Cultic on the other hand, instills the fun from the start. I was impressed with a trailer for it during Realms Deep, and the demo left me impressed with the feel of gunplay and the scale of the map. Of the recent indie releases, it stands out as one my favorites, too, and the fact that one guy conceived it all, damn, it's inspiring. Many of my personal checkboxes were headshot and the RE4 influences made me smile. They blend well into the game, feeling not just like homages but organic inclusions. The weapon variety was good, without a single filler among the bunch. The super shotgun, the pistol, and the most death metal, the lever-action rifle and FG-42, were amazing. It was addictive running through a level, getting slow-mos from headshots. The idea of chapter 2 gets me hyped. By the way, I wanted to respond to your comment left for The Last of Us here, as I'm going to re-upload the video with a different starting song: since you're into aggressive gameplay as I am, you'll have fun. I tried to find a good mix of precision and explosive headshots to feature, but I had recorded so much head destruction with shotguns that... I would wonder if it was getting excessive, lol. I think I found a balance, but you always wonder. The sequel is something else when it comes to the brutality and darker tone, so I should be able to feature more intense gameplay. The PC performance is an alright state, but I am overkilling with a 3080-it feels disingenuous to say it runs great when it can brute force. You stand to benefit, like holding out on a GPU. The market sucks with how expensive they’ve become, especially since VRAM has become a legitimate concern. I have 10GB, and it still pisses me off I couldn’t run Far Cry 6 with HD textures because you needed 11GB, lol.

@@solojonathan Thats the same reason I wanted to try out blood, it was praised through the roof lol. But after playing so many games throughout the years, I dont have as much patience for games that I dont enjoy. I gave it a chance tho I completed first 3 maps and saw that its not for me. Cultic is great, I just finished the second playthrough on extreme (highest difficulty) and it felt amazing. Its very balanced since you have ways to consitantly avoid damage, but if careless you can die very quickly. I really love games that are balanced for the highest difficulty, and boomer shooters usually are. What I liked the most about your last of us review was when you were talking about combat. It increased slightly my expectations of that game. The combat system is very basic but there is enough there to have some fun.

I jumped in right when the Fresh Supply version came out. People cautioned how brutal the game was, but, damn, I had no idea it would be to that degree from the first stage. I would save scum like crazy those first few levels. What’s cool to me is that you know what it is and that you gave a shot. You can talk about it. If you weren’t enjoying it, I don’t fault you for dropping it: there are countless games to delve into. Extreme felt great, where it ends up feeling your fault when you die. I know the idea has crossed my mind, but I never really mulled it over: the difficulty is perfect, most of the time, isn’t it? I know Cultic feels that way. What I liked, too, is that even you did decide to approach the situation with abandon, you could survive those encounters-a sort of strategic carelessness. When I realized you could slide and kick after a jump for extra speed, I abused it the whole game. With the music, I felt like such a badass, I just wanted to start every engagement with chaos. That’s is until my health dropped to 25, then I became highly methodical, lol. I like that element needing to adapt to the situation-and FPSes lately have let us do it. A second playthrough of Cultic must have felt smooth, as sometimes there is an added fun when you know what comes next. Thanks, man. There definitely is enough to the combat, especially if played aggressively. I remember being lukewarm on that aspect of the game in 2013, so I never bothered with the multiplayer. I did play it with more passive stealth, but gear change when you start to take things on more actively. Which reminds me: in the sequel, there is a PS Vita playing Hotline Miami; it reminded me of your avatar.

@@solojonathan I agree, there are many great games out there, I dont expect every game to click with me. My man, I didnt know about that slide and jump kick for extra speed even after two playthroughs lol. I was using sliding to dodge and move around quicker, sometimes even sliding undearneath enemy gunfire. And halfway through the second playthrough I realised there was a button to dodge, bruh.. Its nice that they give homage to hotline miami, I wouldn't expect it from The Last Of Us since its a completely different style of game

The dodge was something I lamented to have found out about so late. I only realized there was one when I saw another review for the game-”what the hell did he just do!?”. I had nearly all of my edit sequenced already, but I needed 1-3 scenes to round it out. Using the dodge and slide in tandem, dude, it makes for some 0.0 footage. I always try to get cool gameplay, so having overlooked it sucked. I remember a couple people voicing the game having a horror element, which it does, but in the sense of inducing fear-I was always puzzled because I felt like an action hero with everything you could do. Then again, my favorite music always strives for the most morbid album covers and band names, and when I'm in the mood for a movie, 9/10 its horror. I find the fiction fun. Yeah, the Hotline Miami inclusion, complete with music, was cool. It immediately made me want to start playing through the games again, making a review for them. I want to put out reviews faster--I want at least 2 a week--and I think those games would be good candidates to experiment with. Also, to see if I can get it to translate to things like Dead Space, which I thinking of getting EA pro for to experience now.

When you're falling from a height, hold the crouch key. It'll eliminate the damage if it's about medium and reduce it if it's any higher.
