Dan , I like all the content you produce. Weather it's working a claim and finding lots, or nothing, your prospecting clips are entertaining, and sometimes captivating. Your educational vids like this one are probably my favorite though. You being a teacher/instructor really shows, and the time you must spend doing your homework to research a topic like this one is appreciated. Thank you for your time spent doing these videos. For the entertainment, and the education.
RU-vid needs some decent gold finding geology videos, period. Many youtubers must assume their audience has a degree in Exploration Geology ! - rattling off rock types and processes and not explaining things too well. This video is an example of how it should be done and I hope you continue with the lessons. Keep up the good work.
I love how you teach, you're a tru teacher! I like how you include both finding gold and you talk about the history of it, and how gold is formed etc. Beautiful Work! Thank you!!
I can only repeat what the first commenter said. You are a really good teacher. Wish there were more of you, in more areas of expertise. 😊 I would have been a better student. Only the passionate teachers got me going. Actually took a small course in geology but the dude there was so immensely boring I swit he'd corse to mountain hiking instead. Actually, we found more up there that the geology teacher would have been green at. 😊
Prospecting videos have never been my cup of tea, but I gotta say ever since I ran across a video of yours randomly about 2 weeks ago I just can't stop watching your little adventures. Your enthusiasm and simple pleasures demeanor make for a nice watch. I really like your environment shots that you do between takes. I also find both formats of informative and find videos to be nice to watch. Keep up the good work brother.
Two things, first why not take some of the ore samples from there and crush them to find out if the gold comes from there? Also I'm a bit of a nerd so let's say about 65% of your content teaching and 35% or maybe 40% gold prospecting. Who knows, but I do like to learn about stuff!
Thanks For Providing Lots of Great Videos 2019 was a Year Of Recouping after 3 Major Illnesses and Dan Hurd, Pioneer Pauly, Quarter Hoarder , Vogus Prospecting ( Chris) Jeff Williams all Have made a Healthy Difference In My Recovery Especially this Heart Catheterization Stint deal which Was tough But Thanks To You All It was Almost just like Being there and I Thank You For Your Presence on You Tube..... Sincerely Don Johnson
Love the video. I actually like more explanations and talk about gold and your locations. Started 2020 on a good note Dan. Can't wait for the next video.
Not only was I listening and hearing all you said, I was able to understand and become educated along the way. Thank you for your passionate method of teaching.
Hi Dan. When i first got interested in prospecting, one of the first videos I watched was one of yours. It was the one you where showing your students how to make a hand dredge (Bedrock crevice sucker). I also made the bucket classifier you showed them and still I use them both. Just thought i would let you know how good a teacher you are. Thanks for those videos. Love all your videos.
Oh Dan, nope, listening to you talk is definitely not boring in the slightest. I wish in high school I had had a geology teacher like yourself. I would have known so much sooner, just how interesting geology is. I’ve only figured that out in my 30’s haha! Loved this Mr Hurd!!!!
By no means have you " belittled" the audience. Nor have I ever felt like you baby it down for us on any of your videos. I find a lot of knowledge and entertainment in your videos. So much that I have taken words of your advice and put them to work in my own doings. Don't change what you have going. I am afraid the person that made that comment might be lacking the education he thinks he has or feels that he knows more. Keep up the GREAT work you are doing and thank you for taking the time to educate all that you have. Will G
Please stop denegrating Dan Hurd by comparison to that idiot. DeGasse Tyson is a schill for anyone paying his Speaking Fees. Try finding REAL SCIENTISTS as your mentors. .www.safireproject.com www.plasmauniverse.com www.thunderbolts.info
@@kennethkustren9381 Wow what did i ever do to you for you to rip into my comment and try to make me feel bad for leaving a positive comment. The people that I admire would never leave a comment as negative as yours towards Me and My comment I hope you enjoy the rest of your day Kenneth .
I don’t think he meant to be negitive, but he made his point on how he doesn’t like Neil, and very much likes Dan..I do know what he means about Neil thou cause he is a talking head for the science community, and is hated by many and Keith is one of them..But much respect to Dan and yourself by making your point of how much you respect Dan like many of us..Good day to you sir and hope you don’t take offence to his comment!.
Trolls make sure they make it everywhere!..Not a thing to dislike of Dans Videos. He is what RU-vid is made for..Teaching,and showing how he gets the gold just like you are right there with him..love it.
@@bluechipmining welcome to 2021!! We have to learn to move and adapt with the times. I get what your saying and that truly sucks. I agree social media platforms kill alot of situations but it is what it is. We all truly have to turn when the road bends. Best of luck to you
Dan, I like a combination of the education and the onsite panning that you do. I like how you cover different aspects of prospecting, from panning, to hard rock mining and educating us about what to look for in each scenario. Thank you for sharing with us.
Dang, Dan. I wish you had been my teacher when I was in scool. I know that learning would have been so much more interesting, with you as a teacher. Your explanations are so clear. My daughter has a learning disability, but finds you easy to understand. Thank you.
My husband was watching this with me. He said he was learning something. I like your combination videos. Science is very interesting and it is fun to watch you hunt gold. We are looking forward to the future videos.
I wish i could load up my backpacking gear, my ar15, and some panning gear and go live in the middle of nowhere looking for gold and eating deer in a small cabin built from trees i cut down... Then years later I'd come out with a beard and about $500 of gold flakes and say "time to go spend all my gold on my destroyed back and knees."
You totally mossed it, It's the adventure, nature, getting out and enjoying while able. It's got nothing to do with how much gold in dollars you find in gold. I'm sure finding lots doesn't hurt though.
I live in Michigan, UAS and I really like learning both sides of gold prospecting. I have a gold pan and used it 1 time when I went out to California. Found some small gold and gem stones. I want to learn the right way and good places to prospect but living in southwest Michigan I don't think I would find anything here.. Thank you and keep up the great work..
well over time it redirects itself, creating new meanders and bends and new routes, this is why you can dig areas around the old beds and get it, just patients is required, though sometimes the human lifetime is a little to short when comparing to geographical changes.
@@Siskiyous6 it's already been proven. I've watched a ton of old miner videos from the Alaskan gold rush. Back then regulations were nonexistent. For a river carved into the surrounding mountains I'm sure certain areas are just lined with huge pockets.
Dan, I love both the educational videos and the working videos. The working videos can be educational to if one just pays attention. My father who a geologist and a gold prospector has said he's learned a lot from your channel too. He's fighting bladder cancer right now, but when that's gone we're off on another adventure. He's more into load and I'm more into placer, but I built a pretty good dry washer for the desert he wants to go to, but in going to make him stop at the headwaters of the Ochoco river to see what we shall see. Good luck
I have to say that the educational stuff is what brought me to your channel! By watching many of your videos I have seen you collect quite an amount of gold, but how you did it is of more Importance to me. But SHOWING the success is also very important to what you are teaching. I would say that a balance of education and results is most likely what I would look forward to in your videos. Good or bad, we can all learn... All that I would ask of you is to just keep doing your videos! I love them! Thanks so much for doing them!
You earned my subscription long ago. I believe that the Fraiser holds replenishing placer gold from the actions of winter and spring bringing new mineral wealth downstream every year. I've been studying the 2 Canadian based ice sheets lately and the robust runnoff every year you witness. The geology of B.C. is most facinating to me. There must be a lateral input of the gold at Pickerton to produce consistant "pickers". The quartz present there in the region brags of a volcanic past. Dig it! I like the way you do things currently. You're a good teacher.
I moved from Maine to Missouri 6 years ago and have not been able to get out and do any prospecting because I don't know of any place out here I can't find any information on it so why do I love every aspect of your Channel.
Cheers from a New Zealand prospector mate. Love the education side of it. I have a huge thirst for knowledge. Your humor is fantastic, wisdom appreciated, and while working I live vicariously through your shiny finds! It'd be amazing to prospect for a day or 2 with ya! A comment re the last video I listened to while driving... ignore those who hate on you for doing the right thing with those squatters!! No one deserves to be walked over ol' chap. Keep up the great work! :)
I like the educational side as much as the finding gold side. Both are exciting for different reasons! Mix it up keep it fresh, you're a great teacher!
It's because of the way you teach makes it so interesting and entertaining at the same time. Don't change the way you teach as one person said it was childish. It's not at all. It grabs people attention and keeps their attention. I absolutely love all your videos and the way you talk and educate. So don't change a thing. You stand out above the rest and I for one love it. Thanks for all your work and sharing what you know with us.
Your educational videos are great but the gold finding videos are motivating. My favorite videos tend to be a combination of both finding gold and giving insight on why/where the gold is.
Great informative video, Dan. You mentioned that locations 1-2 kms above and below Pickerton do not yield the same gold results, so if both of those areas are a similar shale formations as Pickerton, then possibly there was a localized deposition event at Pickerton as in a post glacial ice jam that made the Pickerton claim the bottom of the river or alternatively, the areas above and below Pickerton have been picked over by folks more in the past. If the areas you mentioned that are nearby and above and below Pickerton do not have the same shale formation, then it suggests that the Pickerton shale is a superb natural trap for gold deposition. If the latter is the case, then other shale locations of the same magnitude as Pickerton should be good candidates for gold claims on the Fraser. As others have suggested in the posts, crushing some of the quartz at Pickerton would tell you if it is hosting gold. Thank you for sharing.
I truly appreciate the education and prospecting videos. Growing up near a gravel pit in Michigan I always had fun going in and doing some rock hounding. It is amazing how many people make videos that are misleading. Getting information from a reputable source improves enjoyment and success in the field. Thank you for all your hard work and information. You are one of the best.
hi im from northern ireland and would love to live over there to pan and I think this is one of the better videos as it explains more especially for someone who hasn't got anywhere to pan as its still good to know how and why so thank you I really enjoy these videos
I like watching you find lots of gold at the Pickerton claim on the Fraser River and I also liked the prospecting/geology lesson on why where and how you find alot of gold there.
I think a 70% prospecting 30% teaching would be a good ratio. I like learning but at my age, seeing you finding gold is more enjoyable. Even if it's just a smidgen it adds up. Another great video👍
A combination of both is awesome. It really helps the new Prospector like myself to learn all we can. Thank you for all you do Brother. Keep doing what you are doing and have a great and blessed day Brother.
Nothing negative about how you convey your message. I learned how to identify the shale and slate rocks today, so awesome, don't change a thing. Heavy Pans Sir.
I would say a balance of education vs grunt work is best. So many people just show the prospecting and very few actually share knowledge. I watch for the knowledge and then like to see it in practice now and again to reinforce the knowledge.
I like the education and prospecting. The are both entertaining. For a Christmas present I got a sack of gold bearing dirt, and I can't pan it because we can't find my gold pan. I'm thinking of buying a gold pan and a snuffer bottle to clean my dirt. Then I will have it for further use. Thank you for the education because it reminded me how to pan gold bearing dirt.
Great vid! Great educational summary of the Fraser river! Not that you would need an opinion 4yrs late but i enjoyed watching the evolution of your vids as much as the things I’ve learned and seen. I myself was blown away at just how massive the Fraser is on google earth. Thanks for sharing your time and knowledge Dan!!
I came here to mention that it was a horrible description of the Fraser in northern BC. He claimed that the Fraser was everything on the west side of the Rockies. Wrong, consider the Columbia and the Peace. (Yes the Peace) Everything pretty much from Summit Lake just north of Prince George and north of there, drains into the Peace River. I like Dan, (I’m subscribed) but he overspoke about the Fraser. It is a big river, but it drains less than 1/4 of BC.
Dan, All the educational information you provide is priceless. This is not found in a book. It has to be hands on. Finding the gold is exciting. I want to see nuggets like eggs in an Easter basket! Dream on, I know! Your presentation is so easy to enjoy. You have a very infectious personality. It appears you really love what you are doing. 💜
I found your channel a little over a year ago when I first started learning about gold panning and prospecting. I probably went through all your classroom videos multiple times to learn as much as I could! Don't get mre wrong though, watching you work your claims is just as entertaining!
love the educational/informational aspects of your videos weather you find/show gold or not. I wonder if you realize how many people have caught the fever from you and your videos.Im 70 been prospecting a year and when I find gold ,a speck, its because what Ive learned from you.Love your style and your videos.Keep them comming
I believe a combo of both, that's why people love your channel Dan I've learned a bunch and feel confident to try doing some exploration panning this spring in my local creeks...peace
The Educational Geological info about The Fraser was Super Interesting and really Clarified alot Of Questions concerning all the available Gold as the Shale at Pickerton makes a perfect Resting Place for the Western Rockies that Release and wash Gold down the Fraser
Dan; I enjoyed this video and I think a mixture of educational and discovery is the best mix, every area has different geology and it is important to know this before you go out in the field. Thanks from Bob Abreu south Dakota.
Both finding gold and the educational videos are excellent for me. Your educational vids have been very helpful un my learning how to partake in this fun activity!
I love your videos. Where I work ( a hospital ) there's noise, chaos, and drama ! I see you on a river panning for gold surrounded by all of the beauty of BC. and I can't help but envy you.
I frequently tease my coworkers telling them that I'm going off to gold prospecting for a living. ( It's just a joke.....I know that prospecting for gold is VERY hard work and in the end, probably won't get the bills paid . ) STILL , the job environment can't be beat !
In the spring and summer I trying to get gold out of the river in my home town. Maybe can I find gold in the Netherlands 😊. You give me so much inspiration to try to go outside and enjoy the nature again. At the moment I'm in Rehabilitation of a major accident. It's Has taken me 1 years and 6 months after I was hit by a car it was a hit and run. But the driver has been Stopped by bystanders. And everything was filmed. I was working all first aid.
Hi Dan, my name is Kevin, I’m a disabled Desert Storm vet. I’m 100% disabled. I really enjoy watching your videos. I wish I could do what you do, but I don’t think I could do all the manual labor it would take or even the money to get started. I live in San Antonio Texas so not even sure where to look. I get really excited watching you and think “I could do that”, but then reality sets in along with the disappointment of my disability. So I guess I will just keep watching you have all the fun. Maybe one day. Quick question, finding all the gold at Pickerton along the banks, do you think you could find more if you could go deeper into the water and find more. Just curious. Thanks again Dan, your living my dream.
