My name is Mike Dietz. I lived with Roger, Harley, and John, Frenchie, Billy Psycho,Tony Dust,Steve Skitzo, and Carl in the C squat at 713 E 9th st between C and D. That entire neighborhood was a battle ground and extremely dangerous after dark. I met Freddy when he was a little kid and to this day. Madball is my favorite band and always will be. Right with AF . I don't know if you touched on this in the interview but. Do you know what Madball means. What Madball is? Back in the early 80s we were all kids and if you left the building at night. You had better have a deadly weapon on you because chances were that you're gonna need it. So our weapon of choice was a Que Ball in a sock. A Madball..Dead ass..

I'd love if you brought in more people from the metal/hardcore scene.

He's being mad humble. Much respect due to this man. Met him a few times and he is one of the realest in the scene. He paved many roads. I read Roger's book My Riot and Freddy been through a lot. BIG SALUTE to a GOAT.

I started going to hardcore shows in the mid-90's so I can't tell you how much Madball meant to us growing up. In fact I have *CANT STOP WONT STOP* on top of my chest piece. Freddie is the realest of the real and a true OG. Mad love and respect for this dude.

Saw Madball when I was 11 I’m 22 now craziest fucken show to date I’ve been to my brothers took me to the show in SF was so packed that they moved me behind the VIP gates for my safety…..still didn’t stop me from stage diving!😎 all in all legendary interview def need more like these🔥

One of the coolest interviews I've seen. I deep dived into a lot of hardcore history in the past and have always found the origins of Madball to be interesting. Freddy is a true legend!

I was raised on DC Hardcore, from Minor Threat to Fugazi, Rites of Spring to Dag Nasty. But Madball always had a place in my heart and always will. I'm the same age as Freddy, as much as I'm guilty of lumping them in with 'tough guy' Hardcore, their lyrics and musical style kind of kept them apart in my mind. Great interview. Hold It Down was a great great record. I listen to it often.

You can walk right up and start kickin' it with these dudes. Been a fan for 30 years and these are some of the hardest working, most humble, down to earth people you will meet. Mad respect for Freddy and guys like him that have helped carry the torch all these years. Salute.

Humble and real. Madball was very important to me growing up in the mid 90s.

Freddy is the best hardcore frontman of all tine. He was literally BORN to do this. I saw Madball just last night and he's as on form in 2023 as he was when I first saw them 30 (!!) years ago.

Freddy and the band on the Sunshine Coast Queensland Australia in 97 still one of the best days of my life. I was 17 and fuck it was one of the best days ever and I still rep madball to this day. Hardcore till I’m dead and buried . Thanks for this pod cast no jumper🤘🤘🤘🤘.

I remember meeting Freddy at CB"s at a benefit for his brother, maybe 1989 -1990. He was with Vinny Stigma and they were selling their first 7 inch. I listened to it that night and didn't think much of it. Not in a million years did I think Madball would become what it still is today. I have the utmost respect for the work this guy and everyone in the band, past & present. Their work ethic is legendary if u ask me. I've seen them countless times and at 52 I still bump them in my headphones today. Respect.

Damn. I remember seeing Freddy at “Sunday Matinee” at CB’s. He wasn’t even a teenager yet. The “Superbowl of Hardcore” used to be held in the dead of winter. Miss those days!!!

Great interview. Freddy is such a good dude. We had the opportunity to play some shows with Madball almost 20 years ago and all those guys were great to hang with. Definitely legendary in the scene.

I was part of the scene back in the '90s shout out to Joe hardcore. Also a big shout out to NYC and the NYC HC crew. There was the '80s hardcore generation that started it and then there was the 90s people who held it up I kind of fell right across the middle

As a protein was judged by several of my peers for mixing the 2 cultures of music together just being open minded but it was the MTV generation so to me it made sense and so glad that we've made it all the way to this point that Podcast have actually opened up people's minds to actually branching out and understanding artist as a whole

A lot of people don't understand the roots of hardcore punk, especially in NY, DC, and Boston. Lots of wild-west type shit happened and the stories of the people who were there and blazed the trail for a vibrant music scene need to be told to a wider audience on a regular basis. Hardcore, punk, and Oi! gave me a reason and a purpose, and people like Freddy and Vinnie and Raybeez and so many others made it all happen and opened so many doors for countless people and bands. Hell, Vinnie stigma even helped me one time and charmed some cops to get them to stop harassing me at a show one time many years ago. It's music for people who need a place and once you're in there's a wonderful empowerment and it can take you as far as you need to go.
