@@RoboticsEngineer_ , my distant cousin Vikki Bynum wrote the book. I have a family history in Jones county. My mothers family the Bynum's were part of the Knight's army as I understand.
Ironic that the confederates didn't like the people of Jones doing exactly what the confederacy was doing. Bottom line is anyone should be allowed to succeed from a Government they feel hs failed them.
@shawn2789: If anything it shows that secession is often just a symptom of a disease and not a cure but a dead end. Maybe the Free State of Jones was okay, but it could just have easily become as bad or worse than the mainline confederacy depending on the kind of leadership. The logical end of unlimited secession is an assembly of hostile, feuding tribal states run by dictators just as unaccountable as any distant central government.
Then there would be 500 different states in the US on any given day….needing passports and stopping between “states”. Different sets of laws, tolls and taxes to adhere to. Religious states ect…What a nightmare!
