In the south east province of the Bushrod Island, facing the Atlantic Ocean, is the Freeport of Monrovia; the gate way to the Liberian economy.
From its establishment during the World War II, through the days of civil unrest to present day Liberia, the Freeport of Monrovia has seen it all; Liberia's good and bad times.
This film looks at the Freeport of Monrovia as the shinning light of Liberia and THE HEARTBEAT OF THE NATION.

I’m sorry. What about revenue generation? How much does the Liberian government generate from the Freeport of Monrovia alone? How does that benefit the people of Liberia in terms of development in infrastructure, roads, healthcare, sanitation, education, etc.? I don’t need to hear about “Gateway to the Economy.” In serious terms, how has the Port’s resources being used to alleviate poverty and degradation under this administration and perhaps previous administrations? These are critical questions that were unaddressed in this documentary and for those reasons, I think it’s a terrible job. I can’t emphasize this enough not unless it’s a government PR.

This documentary is not a government PR. We are Ghanaians who visited Liberia and saw a very interesting story that hadn't been told. Its sad to see whites coming to Africa to tell our stories the way they want. With barely any funds and support, we pulled this off. This is a starting point, another filmmaker can continue the story from here. Cheers

@@filifilistudios I commend you for what you do. Yes, Africans have to tell their own stories. I completely agree that Africans have to advertise their own beauty on the prevailing competitive global stage. Liberia is no different. That said, aesthetics have to be juxtaposed with the critical issues of poverty, disease and hunger all caused by misrule and bad governance under the current Liberian government.

Liberia needs to urgently develop internal productive capability for food and goods. The importation through the port is like the country being a drug addict that can't break a bad and expensive habit.

Every vehicle I've sent through the port makes it from America and gets damaged right there in Liberia. The money hungry and careless port operation is a disgrace. Well done video regardless.

Now we need better rod connections to other West African countries so that we can export goods that may be imported through our port

All love to our Black American brothers and sisters and Liberia. We must ensure that, while building up the southern US, The Guianas and the Caribbean, they are included in our businesses, our cultural events, our history and that when we get our reparations, our Americo-Liberian brothers and sisters are paid theirs as well. Sad to see the damage wrought by the civil war on the infrastructure of the oldest Black Democracy in the world, one of the standing republics on Earth (right behind the US, I believe) and the only country in Africa other than Ethiopia to have never been colonized by foreigners, protected by Native African Americans. Strange that the documentary didn't go into this history.

LEE Philips Liberia is not even the oldest Country in West Africa or Africa. history tell us that the year 1821 is the period that Liberia got to be known between 1821 to 1832 before gaining her Independence. There were Countries that were in existence even before that year. examples, we all read about those various Empires like, Mali empire, Ghana Empire etc some of those Empires where in existence even before that year. like Ancient Ghana and Ancient Egypt.

I think she meant in terms of interacting with Europeans. Sierra Leone might've been first. But it wasnt called sierra Leone nor was our land called Liberia. As a professor, she should've been more carefuleith her choice of words.

Right! That was a mistake or she doesn't know Liberia's history. Liberia is the first Republic in the entire Africa. Ethiopia is the oldest country in Africa only because she was already given a name and she was governing her self many centuries ago, but she was not recognized as a country world wide. Meaning, Ethiopia is the oldest country in Africa, while Liberia is the oldest Republic in Africa.

2nd oldest country in West Africa? I don’t think 🤔 that record or information is true. Liberia is the oldest independent African country. She is the first Black Republic in Africa. Liberia declared her independence in 1847, so how is she the 2nd oldest in West Africa? And by the way, who is the first oldest independent country in West Africa?
