Unless you've been living under a rock the whole summer, more or less the entire country is aware of the current situation with Avanti West Coast; their "unofficial strike action" saga (basically not recruiting sufficient staff) has resulted in them slashing their timetable to one train per hour to their major destinations such as Manchester and Birmingham. In response to this, Locomotive Services Limited (trading as Intercity), a vintage railtour company, bid for one of Avanti's redundant WCML paths to create "The Friday Charter" between London, Birmingham, Crewe and Manchester. Charging a fixed fare of £75 one way with first class being the only class of travel, I decided to give this service a try and see just what was on offer... so join me as we experience classic traction across the WCML once again!
Journey details:
Date of Travel - September 2022

Train Type - Class 90 + Mk3 loco haul set
