That first part, shit that hits hard for me. My father tried to kill me and every day he was in jail all I could think about was waiting for him to leave jail, wait to see if he'd try to find me and if he did- I don't know what was more terrifying, being fully ready to probably kill that man or that it pissed me off more than relieved me when he died in jail

I love it, cause they relate the abusive parent and the part where he can't really relate to his girlfriend 'cause you know, people with healthy families and good economical situations, just don't really comprehend the difficulties or the world in which one lives. Sometimes they just get uncomfortable with you talking about your problems. So you just have to ignore those things in their presence. sorry for the bad english i'm not a native speaker.

i relate to this song as someone with an abusive mother she neglected me and sexually assaulted me on a regular basis and left the internet to raise me. she felt more like a wild escapist friend than a parent. i'm coming to terms with the fact that my therapist doesn't trust me because it's my word against hers and she has more money ty for reading, just wanted to vent

To me this song is directed at the girlfriend. Its the narrator telling her about how horrible his dad is, and about his reoccurring dream of killing him. And this song is moreso about how the girlfriend, who has never experienced this, cannot empathize or understand what is such a basic norm in the narrators life. I think the “im part Native American” line is about (Tw) the narrators grandfather having raped a native woman. “Taking something that did not belong to him” being her dignity. His entire family is centered on pain and generational trauma. In his veins. The narrator finds comfort in his girlfriend but understands he will never be truly connected because of the gap of her not empathizing with such a large part of him. Just my take.

my father was an alcoholic, who abused my disabled mom and cheated on her several times hence why i now have around 5 siblings from other mothers. he died in 2017 from alcohol poisoning when i was just 13 years old. at first i was glad, i thought he deserved, in 2019 i thought i forgave him. now i understand i dont need to forgive him to feel closure. i hate what you did to my mom and other women. i hate that im the only one from my siblings that didnt go to child care home. i hate that even though i never had you i still missed you like a phantom pain. i hate that you said i was just an accident, but if you were still here i would show you how far your accident went no matter how much pain ive beared through all those years. i hope if theres an afterlife, we will never meet there.

I .. have not experienced much of what has occurred in this song. My father is.. shit, yeah, I’ll be honest, he’s never physically abused anyone but the fear of knowing he could is enough to cause sleepless nights sometimes, and with half of my childhood memories just being.. arguments? I just didn’t have the best parents, they weren’t the worst, no, and I know people who are going through times tougher will always exist and I should never compare how much I’m struggling, because I know it’s bad.. but for me, it’s getting better, so it’ll get better for everyone else too. If what you need to heal is not to forgive, do not forgive. If what you need to heal requires burning some bridges, cutting some ties, do not let blood being thicker than water stop you. Your well-being comes first. It’ll all be okay.

I really love this song but I almost feel bad for listening to it. My dad isn’t the best one out there but I still love him, and I know he loves me too. He’s made some mistakes and shit but he’s trying his best and I’m just happy he is. My issues lie with my mum. The woman’s manipulated, beaten and tried her best to isolate me from the rest of my family. I’m not allowed to see anyone outside of my ‘close family’ which means it’s just her and my dad cause I’m an only kid. My parents are divorced and I have to live with her until I’m 16 and can try move in with my dad, and she tries her damn hardest to make me hate my dad, and make me feel like shit for wanting to live with him. She’s threatened me with su*cide before, telling me her blood would be on me and my dads hands if I ever left her. I hate it here. I just wanna move in with my dad. I’ve got a couple months left until I’m 16 and I’m just trying to power through it, and I’m scared and stressed about what she’s gonna do to stop me from moving with him, I’m scared she’ll bring up something my dad did in the past and use that for reasoning why ‘it’s unsafe for me to live with him’. I’d rather live with him than a woman who’s nearly drowned me before because she thought my hair was greasy and I didn’t look ‘presentable’. This was long I’m sorry.

My father is a "former" alcoholic who divorced my mom when I was a baby. Immediately after they divorced, he got back with his ex-girlfriend and they have a daughter together (my half-sister, whom I love dearly). He moved to Illinois to live with her shortly before my Pawpaw (his dad) passed away. Now I can only see him on holidays when his work lets him take off. Due to his alcohol abuse, I have to have another adult present when he visits. It used to be his girlfriend, but since my brother turned 18, it's been him. I haven't seen my father since Christmas last year (2021), since he couldn't attend my brother's graduation or come for Christmas this year. The last couple visits haven't been very smooth. I had a panic attack at my Gran's (his mom's) funeral and I didn't go anywhere except the hotel with him last time due to my anxiety. Thankfully, my stepdad is the best dad I could ever ask for, so he makes up for my father's shortcomings.

Tw: rap3 I have chronic nightmares and this recent one was a rape one and I'm having such a hard time trying to separate my dream dad from real dad. I can't be around him without feeling sick, I have paranoia and apart of me feels like he made me have the nightmare. I don't know mental illness sucks.
