In 1993, Harrison Ford & Tommy Lee Jones starred in a movie called "The Fugitive". One of the most intense crash scenes ever filmed in a movie involving a freight train and a bus full of prisoners was shot on location in a small town in North Carolina. The wreckage was left abandoned as is, after filming ended. Come along with us as we explore the wreckage!!!

Just a quick note to those of you who find it offensive and absolutely horrific that we would step foot on or near railways. This is Jen and I have had it with people threatening us for doing what we love. It’s called BULLYING and we won’t tolerate it on our channel. We go to these places to show others places they may never get to see. We are living life to the fullest and enjoying every minute of our time together!! With all of the sad, scary and horrible things going on in our world right now, you would think that exploration of amazing places would be low in the list of something you would take time to worry about. We are good people who have dedicated our lives to helping others in the medical field. It just so happens that in our free time, we love to adventure together. In short, for the man (and some others) who have threatened us for this and some of our other train videos, I say... relax and enjoy life the way you want to enjoy it. Stop looking for things to be angry about and you will be a happier person. This is Marcel and I want to add that the “man” that Jen refers to is no man. He is a keyboard warrior spewing hate and name calling while HIDING like a little sissy behind the safety of his computer! Pathetic actually!!!

The locos used in the film were purchased for a rail equipment brokerage company. They had to be made environmentally safe. That is why the locos are basically shells. The diesel engines, the electrical motors, all hydraulics, and anything with petroleum had to be removed. The fuel tanks were drained and flushed. All that was left, was basiically the locos's headlamps, and cab lights which were powered by an onboard battery. The whole consist was pushed from the rear by real locomotives.

@olentangy74 Although they may have been pushed into a starting position, the stunt scene documentary (I thought I saved it in my faves, but now can’t find it) stated that the front engine was “running remotely” and under its own power for the scene. I know of two people (although one may have passed away a few years ago) who own businesses in Dillsboro and were “observing” at least part of the filming from the water...upstream of the “blockade” that the film crew had in place. I don’t recall them mentioning any other locomotives pushing from behind...but you may be correct. I always thought the lead engine was under power though.

When a train is long, they need more than one engine to pull it. So to make it look like a longer train, they put 2 engines on it. The engines were planned on being scrapped, but the company that made the feugitive got them and used them for the crash scene. The one in the front is a GE U18B and the one behind it is an EMD (GMC) GP30. The U18B was ex CSX and the GP30 was ex norfolk southern. And YES, those tracks ARE STILL in use

That was an awesome film, and you really are lucky to find this spot and all the remnants of the movie set. But I would like to ask you, how did you get away with using the movie clip, without RU-vid giving you a copyright strike. Because I want to do one and I looked up the rules and they say no way. You can't use a movie clip from a movie with out going through a how bunch of legal aspects. In other words, you have to go to school to learn how to satisfy RU-vid, so they don't give you a strike. Some say if you crop in on the clip you can get around it. But i'm afraid to try anything with RU-vid. Thanks guys. And Thumbs up!! But what did you have to do to satisfy RU-vid with your dispute. Because there are many owners of the movie Fugitive, and you have got to go through hell to get written permission to use their material. I just wondered how you got the copyright strike removed is all. Was it easy? or was it a nightmare? Thanks.

We can see your point, but to us, this place was beautiful. A chance to see a piece of Hollywood history from a movie that we have both loved for such a long time. Thank you for taking the time to comment:)

The GE locomotive was purchased for $21k and the GP30 was purchased for $19k. The train was pushed from behind up to 45 mph. The derailment and crashes were staged. Only could be done once. In the DVD transfer under special features, the producers talk about the train wreck and all safety precautions taken and all other aspects of the scene.

It was a nice shot but I can't help but think of all the money wasted on a shot that lasts only not even a minute or so. Honestly, they had Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones starring in this great film, so I think just a bus crash and escape would have been sufficient and no one would have thought any less of this movie ! Anyways, life goes on and live and learn everyday and how awesome is it we get a chance each new day with a breath we are blessed with from God to not make the same mistakes again !

Because they don't need it anymore, they pay for these stuff , the budget were about 44 millions dollar, the movie was a major hit , that was a good investment
