Biggie really did think Nas was better than him. When he won best lyricist at the Source he was shocked and was interviewed about it and said he was surprised he won because Nas was nominated at the same time. Shows you how much he respected Nas.
Winning best rap album and best lyricist are two different things. I'm pretty sure he thought he was going to win best album because he had the more commercial selling album but he said he was shocked he won best lyricist which has nothing to do with sales. The Source were still up and coming and I'm sure they needed to give Bad Boy the main awards for publicity.
He said and I quote "I definitely didn't think I was going to win with Nas on it." did he technically say the words shock, no, but deductive reasoning must be applied when deciphering the meaning behind that statement. If I was sure I wasn't going to get that promotion and I got it then a level of surprise and shock is conveyed without having to say you I'm shocked.
kenny12321 Look up 95 source awards interview with biggie..Biggie admitted Nas was lyrically wittier..said I Definitely didn't think I was go win best lyricist with Nas on it..Nas was more seasoned & more of the whole package than biggie..Nas deeper , talk about alot more & more lyrical.. listen to NY state of mind ..Nas rhyming ,vocab & lyrics was too dope specially for only age of 18
He actually really liked Rae and Ghost as rappers. There's one video where he's listening to Only Built for Cuban Linx. He was feeling it. Lil Kim also said that he really like Wu's music and was pissed when they dissed him.
The way biggie changed his style to the beat is what made him the greatest. In some songs nas lyrically might have had the edge and in others big has the edge. Nas has one style and big had multiple. Bone and biggie is testament to biggie being able to be versatile.
Where do you guys get your information from Big and Nas copied Jay-Z both of there albums didn't talk that Big money shit selling big drugs out of town shit Platinum wearing shit Christal Champagne
C'mon nigga, don't make a Martyr outta Big. He ain't fuckin w Nas lyrically. Even when Big was alive he knew Nas was a huge problem. IMO, only nigga on Nas level was G Rap. MAYBE Rakim. None of the 90s MCs was touching Nasir.
Tony Starks yo man last time I said Master P destroyed the game I was crucified and called a jealous bitter up north nigga that was mad the south was winning(I'm a Face, Ugk,Ti,3k,Jeezy,Jay Electronica,Krit fan but I hate the south..shrugs)lol anyway I'm glad I'm not alone in that assessment on P fuckn up hip hop peace to u fam
Biggie & Jay-Z style was birthed by Big Daddy Kane especially Jay. Biggie is more of a mixture but was also heavily influenced by Kane. And Kane style was birthed by Grandmaster Caz from the Cold Crush.
here is the Nas, Rae and Ghost dis lines -You herbs get, stuck quickly for royalties and show money Don't forget the publishing, I punish em, I'm done with them Son, I'm surprised you run with them I think they got cum in them, cause they, nothing but dicks Trying to blow up like nitro and dynamite sticks Mad I smoke hydro rock diamonds, that's sick Got pay off my flow, rhyme with my own click Take trips to Cairo, laying with yo bitch I know you praying you was rich, fucking prick When I see ya I'ma
***** Got paid off my flow ryme with my own click- Telling Nas he got paid using Biggie mafioso flow, and Rhyming with the Wu tang instead of the Firm...his clique
No doubt, the song is ambiguously targeted at a myriad of competitors and artists. BIG left things open for interpretation certainly. Whoever felt he was speaking about them (Nas, Rae, Ghost, Jeru, the Roots, De La Soul, etc), he probably was (the beauty of subliminal disses).
Karceno4life, your knowledge of the hip hop game and the artistry is unmatched. You speak truth and honesty about the artist their styles, what really was going on and what the press didn't tell the public with a well balanced perspective. You need to teach a course on hip hop the artist, art form and the industry. Keep the videos coming.
@@deszi4444 Nas wasn't known back when the purple tape dropped. I'm saying that he outshined them all way back then before he actually got his own music dropped. I think his verse was the Best on that tape and everyone else fell in after his verse being the best.
1. the Biggie album cover was a indirect bite of Illmatic. (I didn't think Rae and Ghost was hating) 2. 100% right about Jay. Great user of others creativity.
coffin ob4cl was better than ready to die for one...number 2 look at how much biggie changed when life after death dropped...that was a complete style biting of the crime mafioso don status shit rae n ghost was doing in 95
TheEdub1 theres a video on youtube of nas/biggie on stage freestylin...what nas was spitting was on “it was written” what biggie said i never heard on a record...hence “you cursed it but rehearse it/i drop unexpectly like birdshit”
Nas is miles ahead lyrically, deeper, substance, storytelling and content wise than most of y’all top 5’s. Untitled and Distant Relatives are albums way ahead of their time. Talks about the Dogon Tribes, Mike Conception, and has lyrics that people still haven’t understood yet. Even on his new album a verse like “Touch up the game like a photo edit, Camera roll like Oscar Michaeux, they gotta roll the credits. Like Rome came into Kemet and they stole the essence. Before they watered it down and taught us bogus lessons. Written in stone, write whatever in your history books. Me and ancient Egyptian skin tones had similar looks” Who in y’all top 5 rhymes like this?? Who has a better song than One Mic
Yeah, Rae and Ghost were hatin'... but everybody felt that way when Biggie dropped Ready to Die... that's the first thing I thought... and now everybody puttin' their baby pics on their album covers... Lil Wayne did it... Jill Scott did it... Chrisette Michele did it... Nas was the only one who did it where it made sense to the theme of the album... Illmatic was like a diary of thoughts from a kid growing up in the projects to become a man.
"My first album had no famous guest appearances The out come, I'm crown the best lyricist" only 3 rapper did that Tupac, Nas, and J.Cole from there first ALBUM.
@@1traphistory no it didn't hold him back. the album is a classic often seen as one top rap albums in history. When illmatic dropped the South wasnt that big yet. The west was the biggest at that time. Jay collabs w southern rappers was waaaay later. illmatic dropped early 90s before rap was commercially huge.. Jay 1st album dropped in 96 and he didn't do Big pimpin w UGK until like his 4th or 5th album into the 2000s. He was already a mega star by time he did all the South Collabs down the line
If that's the case the Black album was Prince idea because in '88 Prince put out a Black album, it was called that probably because it was put out only through the black market. No titles, no publicity or marketing. It was an album not to be released but was put out in the black market.
Get into how BIG stole Tupac's morbid theme about death and dying from Me Against the World after letting him listen to the first version of the album. Then he came out with Ready to Die and Pac was shocked because he knew BIG took his whole theme to his album. Pac then had to change up some of the tracks and put out a whole another album all cause biggie bit his previous one. Talk how Big went from Party n bs to ready to die.
Yeah it was all good when they were cool, but all of a sudden they beefing now he’s stealing your style gtfo😭😭, last time I checked pac said he was giving big advice, who wouldn’t want advice from pac.
Big Didn't Bite Pac Style They Both Talked About Death But Listen To Both Totally Two Different Styles Pac Was The Nicest In The West Big Was The Man In The East The Reason Why Pac Said He Took His Style Cause How Fast Big Rose Up & Pac Was On Stand Still Even Though Me Against The World Was # 1 Big Poppa & Juicy Sored
Everything sounds just about right. I believe this story is to be true. However, just one thing that has to be thrown out there. "The Black Album" thing. Actually it wasn't Jay or Big's idea. Because in 1994, Prince had already dropped an album called "The Black Album" of the same title and concept. Y'all might not had known that. But yes that whole Black Album thing wasn't Jay or Big's idea because it was already done by another artist.
Karceno4Life he didn't get it from Biggie either. I'm just saying Prince had it 1st. B4 Biggie and Jay. Now Jay might've gotten it from Biggie, but Prince had the idea 1st. That's all I'm saying.
This video is very interesting because Jay & Beyonce are currently fighting a lawsuit against them for the song "Lemonade". And Cam'ron exposed a lot of shit too.
Lol. Ceno, point blank, big could of put out a diss song, directly dissing pac and he didnt. I don't want to hear about some verses on a song, where said verse were taken off the album. Now, I am far, far from a thug, I don't want to fight people, but big on his albums tries to come off as a mafia don. This beef clearly showed that either big or puffy weren't what they proclaimed on their albums. Krs-one, ll cool j, Eminem, ice cube, jay - z, and many others would of went at pac directly. Biggie, who some think, is the best ever, essentially was silent until after pac was dead. Not cool dude. Either stick to rhyming and stay clear of that mafia don shit or actually back up your words.
ReignSupreme287 I know that almost none of the rappers actually do what they say on record. That's obvious. But, biggie portrayed himself as a mafia don. Now, we all know that this was not true. But, biggie couldn't directly answer pac back? Not once? No one here would of did what biggie did. Would you have done what biggie did? Yeah pac wasn't killing folks either, but pac had a history, after he became famous, of actually fighting and jumping people. Big was a smarter dude and didn't do that stupid shit. But biggie could actually dissed pac directly.
U should add that part in ur big & 2pac beef .....i heard he did that song like a couple days before the mtv music awards in 96 & heard he had another diss on dangerous mcs
The difference between singers and rappers, when it comes to writing songs. Singers credibility is based on singing not writing. That's why lip syncing is such as big issue. Rappers credibility is based on lyrics. You only get credit when you write your own lyrics. That's why Puff will never be consider one of the greatest because he doesn't write. No matter how hot the verse is like All About The Benjamins. He'll never get the respect for it
No NAS was the one he was called the Golden Child for a reason. NAS had a name way before Biggie or Jay. That's Pac said what he said on Makaveli. Big blew up before NAS though in the main stream because Illmatic was heavily bootlegged. Illmatic is the best rap album ever created imo.
dude real talk you won me with the biggie impersonation when he was like, "This goes out to you and you and you and you," LMAO I soooo remember that! Great video!
What made the TUPAC - RESEURRECTION DVD which sold massively a "credible source" ?? Shud people who know this stuff be a king or have some kind of prince throne NO It is possible to be a normal person and to kno what went down U know
I miss the days of the subliminal diss. If you have info on it you should do the Rakim/Kool Keith of Ultramag beef (diss). Kool Keith dissed Ra on "Ain't It Good To Ya" referencing "Follow The Leader", the Ra replying back with "No Competition".
There are only 2 rules in Hip Hop: - Biggie Smalls is the illest - Wu-Tang is Forever The rest is not mandatory. Side note: Ghost' verse on Guillotine is also a contender for best verse on the purple tape.. "The 14 carat gold computer wizard..."
Dawg!!! I gotta do a black album now and when I do I will execute it flawlessly and acknowledge both you and Big!!! I appreciate the inspiration!!! #Salute G
there was also a point in time where biggie was showing mad love to the wu. this was right before rae and ghost went in on him verbally on the streets or subliminally on wax. this was actually the starter. big was showing love.. they were showing hate. RZA was supposed to produced the B-side single for that summer in between the release date of Life After Death and rumor has it that beat went to Rae.. "Incarcerated Scarfaces" was supposed to be for Biggie. Around the same time Purple Tape was circulating the rumor and talks that Biggie was trying to bite Nas style through the covers and beat selection got out and thats when shit got really official. Karceno Im a big fan of your boxing channel but now that I know you got this too I feel like you and I can kick it over a blunt and some brew and just chat over some real history. Salute for putting this up. there's more to the rap shit and feuds than Jay vs Nas and Pac vs Big. my dude salute.
Do you even know what your talking about??? dude Jay-Z said I say a Big verse I'm only bigging up my brother... I swear you little dudes need to really listen to music.
I had originally thought what started the beef(not real beef) was Big's album cover. But other than that it was just mainly friendly "King of NY" competition the whole time. I never knew what Rae and Ghost's beef with Big was. I just assumed they were hating on Big's success. I really didn't appreciate Rae and Ghost's old music until I got older. Back then it was all Method Man for me. Meth's albums were always very average compared to the other Wu members though. Meth had the best flow in NY rap to me so I rocked with him the most. Good video though I love to hear 90's rap debates. Even the 80's a little bit because I listened to everything my pops listened to EPMD LL RAKIM SPECIAL ED G RAP KOOL MOE DEE Etc. Keep em coming.
I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THERE USE TO BE A BIGGIE, JAYZ AND NAS DEBATE.NAS ,AS I HAVE PREVIOUSLY STATED ,IS A FAR BETTER SKILLED LYRICIST THAN THESE TWO.HE HAS MORE DIVERSE SUBJECT MATTER,BETTER STORY TELLING ABILITY,SUPERIOR VOCABULARY,MORE COMPLEX RHYME SCHEMES AND HIS RAW ABILITY TO CREATE IMAGETRY LIKE NO OTHER.NAS IS THE GREATEST MC OF ALL TIME AND U HEARD IT FROM A GUY FROM DALLAS ....OAK CLIFF ,TX.
In Cream video they were poppin champagne bottle in the end of the video so, if anybody was feeling a certain way after the diss came was Biggie. Go back and watch Cream video at the end. So, Biggie dissed himself in the "One More Chance" remix because he thought that it was coming from Ghost and Rae because obviously, it was something he feared then saying about him which could've been the end of his career, especially if it was Ghost who is more colorful or humorous than Rae. But Only Built 4 Cuban Linx by far is better than both of Biggie's albums. That's a classic that just can't be touched by nobody, ever. Jay-Z tried to drop 3 volume's of Life And Times of Shawn Carter to match it and couldn't do it with 3 volumes. That's the number 1 rap album of all times. That and Illmatic. I'm a 5%er so, I'm always going to put knowledge before icy, glamorous, material things or before the physical world in which that's what Bad Boy and Rocafella was all about. Just be dressed up dummies with money. Wu had Wu Wear out first. Who bit and played follow the leader? Sean John and Roca Wear and everybody else and still is but don't want to give The Gods' (Wu) the credit for the spark or the light rather.
it’s kinda weird because this beef is so intertwined with nyc and IMO is one of the greatest beefs of all time. It all happened in a span of like 8 months. So short
Nas' album Illmatic, was very highly anticipated. Everyone was waiting for this album to drop.I remember video music box had a special on the making of Illmatic. Nas was considered a prodigy.
ODB snitch the mike from Biggie at a show and that was a beef between camps also.... Old Dirty Bastard was a goon for real, Ghostface Killa and Raekwon use to shoot at each other before they started Wu-Tang Clan, dudes where some real goons, Poppa Wu need I say more...Them dudes is solid....
jmaal2345 dude everyone bites. One of Emenim's biggest songs was a verse from Rakim as the hook. All real emcees bite as paying homage. Not stealing their lyrics
Philip cross true that, everyone gets it from someone, nothing is brand new. they jus add their bit to it. regardless go listen to the blueprint and tell me that shit is not dope
long kiss goodnight is one of my favorite tracks. i love big. why was he afraid to mention names? we all know who he was talking about. puffy got into his head.
One thing I respect about Nas, Wu Tang and Mobb Deep is unlike Badboy they weren't trying to bite the West Coast sound. Yeah Nas tried to crossover but he still stayed close to his roots. I'm from Htown and in my 30's so my perspective is a little different. Down here we got down with Pac and Big. I was a big Nas fan since '95 after Verbal Intercourse. A lot of good memories. Man I wish Tupac and Big survived. The game might be different. But keep supporting the real- Killer Mike and El-P, Gibbs, Pusha T, Mick Jenkins, Isaiah Rashad, Kendrick, Cyhi The Prynce, JCole, Vince Staples, etc.
Biggie vs Nas is so arguable! When Biggie shits on "Kings of New York", Nas was dropping out warnings; 'I ain't the type of brother made for you to start testing' 'one life one love so there can only be one king' shit.. two of the best rappers imo.
big fan of your videos homie!! real talk, i met prodigy a few times and he told me that he was not a fan of biggie until he passed away. BIG asked him to get on Last Day that havoc produced and he refused because he wasnt feelin him at the time, not sure about havoc but one half of mobb deep didnt like BIG at the time
Nas had the connections to get Pac shot in NY. I think Nas said he was filming a video in Vegas around the time period Pac got killed. Biggie and Pac would have put him in a terrible career position. I'm not saying he offed them or had something to do with it...but he did benefit the most.
Where do you guys get your information from Big and Nas copied Jay-Z both of there albums didn't talk that Big money shit selling big drugs out of town shit Platinum wearing shit Christal Champagne
Where do you guys get your information from Big and Nas copied Jay-Z both of there albums didn't talk that Big money shit selling big drugs out of town shit Platinum wearing shit Christal Champagne
Well I think Nas would have won anyways Jay made a mistake of dissing Nas and paid that price hard Nas made him cry and Nas dissed 50 pretty hard too when 50 dissed him and 50 was pretty offended and was afraid to say anything else back after that.
I thought a lot of BIG's rhymes on LAD where aimed at Boot Camp Click, Jeru, and the Roots, also...Rae and Ghost definitely got shots fired at them too, but it seems like BIG was referring to what he considered small fries to his enormity. But yeah, Rae and Ghost was definitely in the crosshairs. Great info!
I remember BIG saying he wanted to make a Black album with no promotion, radio singles. I think he would have done an album with R Kelly too. They made a good pairing. One flaw Jay always had is his ability to tell a story. He'll tell his own story but I mean like structuring a story like "I Got A Story To Tell", "Niggas Bleed", "The Set Up" (by Nas), Slick Rick joints and a bunch of other emcees who painted vivid pictures in story telling. I think Jay tried it once with "Meet The Parents".
Rick Scorsese you should do your research. It was Written had outsold Ready to Die at the time. perhaps it still has outsold Ready to Die I do not know but in the context of 1996 Ready to Die had been out for 2 years and It was Written was out for months and it ALREADY had surpassed it in sales. Why in the world would you come out all chest puffed attacking someone for telling the truth while you expose your own ignorance? That is dumb man. You obviously have no idea what your talking about.
Big was a super lyricist but this time I believe Ghostface would have murdered biggie lyrically and lay him dead. Ghost was a real beast on Rarkwon's Only Built for Cuban Linx and the Ironman album. Biggies flows on Ready to Die or Life After Death was far from Rae or Ghost at the time. #Realtalk
+The Infamous Trini_Don Biggie would've slaughtered them dudes..did subliminally anyway on tracks like kick in the door, victory..I like Rae & ghost tho
i keep seeing ppl saying kick in the door was for Jeru. so Karceno and Nas are wrong yall saying. cus Nas said on the song, Realist Nigga Alive, "yall dont know about my biggie wars, who you thought kick in the door was for"
riflemania FYI MAN BIGGIE CANT FUCK WITH NAS LYRICALLY EVER..& I MEAN EVER. NAS HAS 2 MANY LAYERS HIS LYRICISM IS UNMATCHED BY ANY NY EMCEE IN A FEW DECADES..ITHINK OF PUN WAS STILL LIVING & PUT OUT ALOT OF MORE HE WOULD BE UP THERE
I say a big verse ,cause iam only biggie up my brother, iam big enough to do it,plus I know my own flow is foolish , so them ring n thing you sing about, bring them out ,its hard to yell when the barrel in ur mouth 👄😅😅. ITS NEVER BEEN A NIGGA ,THIS GOOD ,THIS HOOD,THIS HOT ,FOR SO LONG..
Timmy D takeover was weak. Ether is considered one of the best diss songs ever. The song you quoted from was like two albums after the beef and Jay was still addressing shit Nas said on Ether. "How much of Biggie's rhymes is gon come out your fat lips". Jay knows he can't fuck with Nas.
Like the line "Y'all was Grimy in the 90's", he was saying New York MC's as a whole was grimy and grungy and now nearly everybody ROCKIN coogi's and Versace (which was true, prompting the roots to make WHAT THEY DO)
Nas is overall the better artist at most things. But Biggie gets the edge in some categories so he is not completely inferior as a artist just overall Nas is better in my pov.
matthew mann Wrong Nas is is the better MC, but not by much. Big is the better overall artist, he made better music consistently, and people gravitated towards his aura, music etc.
Awsome stuff my brotha! Very interesting. When you start talk about stealing, only thing that came to mind is that, there is no love amongst thieves. Peace and blessing.
GZA was right there with Big. Big aint put a hole in Chubb Rock..... He aint put a hole in Craig Mack, and he definitely didn'tput a hole in Meth (The What)
Biggie didn't bring the east coast back and neither did Nas, man stop saying that shit. It took along time for Biggie to start selling a lot of units. And Nas didn't sell a million until It Was Written his 2nd album. Onyx and Wu Tang brought the east coast back period! Onyx had everybody with the mad face and bald heads and slam dancing. Wu had everyone throwing up the W. Give credit where credit is due. And before Onyx and WU brought shit back Epmd held the east down heavy. The dope acts came out of there camp at the time K-Solo, Das Efx, Redman, etc. This was right before Epmd broke up, then came Onyx and Wu killin shit in 1993. Nas, Biggie, and Jay came after that. Nas, Big, or Jay didn't get proper respect for there 1st albums until years later. True hip hop heads new how dope they were from jump. But it took the masses a while to catch on.
I disagree, bro. Onyx was pretty big but their main year was 1993 into 1994. At that time, the West Coast still dominated Hip Hop. Wu Tang really hit their groove around 1996-1998 or so. Biggie and Junior Mafia, starting circa 1994 was the MC who really brought the East Coast back to prominence.
A lot of albums from that era were heavily bootlegged. And I disagree with Illmatic being the best rap album ever. Public Enemy - It takes a nation of millions to hold us back. And I think Ice Cube - Death Certificate is better.
Difference of opinion that's all. I think Illmatic is the perfect album from start to finish straight perfection. A tale of a young project kid growing up in the misery of a housing project. Just doesn't get any better to me.
Big was great. BUT, we never directly answered back pac. PAC destroyed Big, and big never responded. But he can say "I'll put a hole in them" to ghost and raekwon? Why not diss PAC? I remember listening to hit'em up on tape back in what...96 on the maxie single of how do you want it. When I heard nothing come back from big. I was done with him.
Come on man. No one puts "long kiss goodnight" as a top diss song. Also for him to release it AFTER PAC died is really corny. Come on karceno, PAC destroyed him. And also for big and puffy to downplay the beef while PAC was living and then release a diss song after PAC is dead is.......some hoe shit. Long kiss goodnight isn't even all that good, when you compare it to classic hip hop diss songs. Biggie was scared or else he would of responded earlier and more forcefully.
you have to remember biggie was a laid back nigga ,and he not trying to make a diss song against pac because that would add more fuel to the fire. 2pac was great at getting personal but biggie was not ready to take it there . he just wanted to make music but we all know biggie could rap circles or outbar anybody . it didn't matter because they both sadly died . this was one of my main issues with 2pac . why go at at a nigga that clearly is not ready for beef.
ryanr20091 yes big was a laid back guy. But for biggie to say he is the king of NYC. He had to respond. He didn't. You say why did PAC go at a guy who wasn't ready for beef. Who cares. Cannibus dissed ll cool j, and he responded. The list goes on and on. Biggie didn't want it, plain and simple.
marksuave25 the difference is those old school legends were being competitive and that's hip hop . you never once thought canibus was going shoot LL cool J . you cant compare that situation to what pac and big went through. Biggie was just being smart because he knew that their issue went beyond music . that's when what you say can get you killed. diss songs are cool if they stay competitive
"AND YOU STILL RECOUPIN STUPID....stupid...stupid" LOL Rae and Ghost are probably my favs out of Wu but they wasn't being fair to BIG especially the album cover shit! The Illmatic and Ready to Die covers look nothing alike! Ready to Die is depicts an INFANT that aint even BIG!! Illmatic shows a portrait shot of Nas at like what? 6 years old? Blended in with the QB projects!! Completely different!
Eddie Sille lol i usually don't like comparing them but over the years I began to like 2pac more for several reasons. BIG paid dues obviously, but i think 2pac paid EVEN more dues! Was his debut album a smash hit like BIG? NO! Did he dance back up of Digtal Underground? YES! And besides that, 2pac was the QUINTESSENTIAL MAN! Ever noticed how much he smiled? Haha not many rappers are comfortable to do that because they gotta look hard! 2pac MASTERED the art of sensitivity and masculinity! Something most men have no clue how to do and definitely something BIG couldn't do lol
Eddie Sille LOL i really thought about it i mean if BIG never became a rap icon i mean where would he be? Do you think women would fuck with him? 2pac most likely would have a legend even WITHOUT RAP! Shieet compare BIG's background to Pac's lol 2pac came from BLACK PANTHER ROYALTY! How many people do you hear discuss BIG's childhood compared 2pac's? LMAO see what I mean? Why you think 2pac gets all the conspiracy theories and gets treated like martyr and not BIG!? 2pac was a SEX SYMBOL and BIG most definitely was NOT! hahaha
+AQUAPHREESH193 Funny thing is the Illmatic cover is Nas when he was a baby. the Ready To Die one was some other baby who's now grown. and yeah Only Built 4 Cuban Linx and Ironmen are classics.
