I love how in the hidden compartment there's just "$2500 cash." The USD was supposed to be hyperinflated in the Fallout world. A stack of pre-war money is a $10,000 stack of bills which someone estimated inflation to be 2800% compared to today due to the price of the Capitol Post in Fallout 3 being $56 compared to what you'd probably expect to pay today for a newspaper, which is around $2. Meaning they were smuggling the equivalent of approximately $80 USD. Totally worth putting in all the effort of smuggling.

Its funny how without the engines how quickly these aircraft fell. It kinda tells how aerodynamic these things were that they couldn't "glide" that far. @nogoodusername25
@nogoodusername25 7 лет назад
well, modern jet fighters are just like bricks when the engines cut out mid air. The reason for this is weighing the options, like better glide or agility when maneuvering mid air. Although I understand your standpoint, a passenger liner like this probably have similar capabilities to the Concord or Tupolev-144. The shape of those hulls are also "bricks" when the engines cut out.
@Gunnar_Konig
@Gunnar_Konig 7 лет назад
Losing all engines on one side (and that thing seems to have 10 engines total in 2 clusters) is killer for most aircraft, especially powerful ones. You'd have to cut power to the surviving engines but at that point you might not have enough lift to keep the nose up and if you took too long to do that, the imbalance would cause either a flatspin or a spiral downward. Plus pilot error due to panic is likely. Typically the planes that can function with half the engines are 2 engined planes with the nacelles very close to the fuselage and even then landing is a bastard. As for the others it's hard to say without knowing just how much their relied on electronics that the EMP would known down, but I'm guessing quite a lot.

Presumably the planes were nuke powered which would've made the engines electric, not fuel based. So an EMP would actually probably disrupt the electrics of the engine despite the nuclear power not being effected. That first wreck didn't see the blast probably because it wasn't faced that direction, not to mention their altitude would've had an effect. Plus I believe the other plane was in the process of landing. The other factor is not just the EMP, but the shockwave. Which may have caused the planes to break up AS they were falling, making it harder to find all the pieces.
@samalbury9183
@samalbury9183 4 года назад
In the 50s, there were experiments with nuclear aircraft. They had air flowing through the reactor where it heated up and expanded. The increase in volume forced the air out the back, propelling the plane. I'm guessing that these planes used similar tech as that program

6:35 It's the same flight, and the recordings don't conflict. A lot of people know that a nuclear blast generates an EMP, and know that it would knock out electronics. This happens because an EMP actually generates a current as it passes through electronic systems because of a rapidly-alternating magnetic field. Electronics are delicate enough that a relatively minor EMP could fry them really easily, even at considerable distance from the blast. But that effect is going to occur in any electrical circuit, including generators. If the EMP is minor and the generator can withstand the current, it's fine. But if the EMP is major, which the ones from nuclear detonations are, it generates pretty considerable voltage spikes; a naturally-occurring EMP produced by a solar storm in 1859 fried telegraph systems throughout America and Europe. (It also caused auroras to appear all over the world. In case you're wondering: yeah, that could happen again, and in fact almost did in 2012, but missed us. Yes, it would do unbelievable damage and probably end civilization as we know it. No, we would not be able to do shit about it.) That voltage spike would be enough to wreck a lot of bigger generators, and probably enough to set fire to smaller ones -- like the one in a jet turbine. Especially if it's running, as it'll be dealing with its operating voltage already. So: the flight is heading toward Boston Airport. Pilot A is on the line to Air Traffic Control, and Pilot B is talking through their heading information and such for the flight data recorder. The nuke goes off, and produces that famous ridiculously-bright flash of light -- the same one from the intro sequence, by the way. The pilots saw it, too; Pilot B says "What the hell?" and Pilot A gets off the line with Control for a moment. The EMP travels along with it, causing a voltage spike in both engines. The left engine catches fire, which Pilot A reports to Control. The pilots try to recover, but there's no power to either engine; the right engine might not be on fire, but it was fried all the same. The instant the bomb fell, their fate was sealed. So the flight was brought down by engine failure, but the failure was caused by the EMP from the blast. I'd wager a lot of aircraft in the Fallout universe were brought down in exactly this way.

The pilots probably just saw the explosion in the corner of their eye which is why they exclaimed they saw a bright light but they did not know what it was. You can easily access the bottom floor, middle floor, and the top floor where the cockpit is using the stairs. However the cockpit floor actually has two compartments. To reach the hidden compartment, using the rock face to the right, jump onto the roof of the plane fuselage and then drop into the plane through one of the square cut outs on the roof (cut out furthest away from the plane's nose). There you will find loads of loot, I found 4 fusion cores there when playing 'Hard' difficulty. The hidden compartment can be seen at 12:03 at the top of the screen Edit: Since then I only play on 'Very Hard' and realised every few hundred or so container loot pick ups I still get 4 Fusion Cores. This has got me thinking; what happened to all the cross-country flights when the nukes hit? Many of them would be far from any military sites or population centers, so what happened to them after the bombs? Did they try to land in the smoldering ruins that had replaced all the airports?
@arcticwolf8313
@arcticwolf8313 6 лет назад
Pintroll300 they were probably forced to crash land and the state of the world would mean anyone who survived probably died with the exceptions of flights going to areas that weren't targeted during the Great War of 2077, which would have landed safely. Depending on where any given flight between Europe, Russia, Southeast Asia, the US and Canada was located during the bombardment, some of them may have been able to divert to safer locations. But this would be rare. Small planes flying over less populated areas with smaller airports would probably have been able to land safely. Unfortunately for those in larger passenger planes, larger airports with enough runway to land these planes are typically located in larger cities with higher population densities that would be targeted by enemy nukes. Any airport landing or taking off in these areas or anywhere within a few miles spherical radius of the blasts would be brought down immediately. The survivability would depend on a variety of factors. At tens of millions of degrees, anyone within a a couple to several thousand feet will be vaporized along with the aircraft surrounding them. those further away but still within a few miles radius would be knocked down by shockwave. In the outer edge of the radius of the danger zone it is possible that affected aircraft can regain control if the pilots are skilled enough. But these pilots would have to contend with the radiation messing with the instruments. Those over the ocean won't be as badly affected, BUT they would be left with no communications with air traffic control, which will and the instruments will be affected by gamma rays if they are going to affected areas. flights over the oceans could be unaware of what's going on though so may fail to divert to safer locations.

I think the difference between tail name and flight name indicates a Codeshare agreement between Skylanes and HorizonAir. That is weird though, because from the lay of the land and the fuselage/wings being in such close proximity, it looks more like it fell straight down (the wings would have been ripped up more, or have the tips point forward or backward, depending on which part hit the ground first, if it was traveling forwards) and it being belly down makes no sense either, as flying wings without control authority would start spinning along the wing axis, due to the center of mass and center of lift being apart from eachother. Alas, the simple answer is: game logic

Hay for the glowing sea flight, the EMP would cause engine failure. So both parts line up. My guess is the plane was hit by the EMP, and its engines started to fail, and the tower tried to get them to land after the bomb went off. Perhaps the plane was far enough away at the time that the EMP only partly damaged the electronics so they slowly failed instead of compleatly failing.

To clarify everything: nope they can't... I used to be a pilot, you know? But not what you might think... sailing planes or whatever they are called in english... they can glide because they are fully aerodynamic and lightweight. Planes like THIS are way too heavy and just look at the design. In real life, planes like that cannot fly without computer because they are not aerodynamic or at least partially... just look at the F/A 22 Raptor or the F-16 Fighting Falcon, two well known fighter jets. If they cannot fly properly without computer, how could such a big one glide? Go ask Google if you want ^_^

It could've been the bombs falling in Far Harbor, or the FAA Center north of Boston in Nashua New Hampshire. If the Chinese took down the FAA Center, that means no flights would have guidance, and so any military planes trying to shoot down the Chinese would have less help (aside from radar) and would have a harder time to safely land/fight without any guidance.

An airplane wouldn't just fall out of the sky because an EMP hit. It could easily continue flying (at least gliding without power). It's not like an EMP would immediately bring the plane down. That's like saying you would immediately crash your car if the engine suddenly stopped working.
@Sheehy223
@Sheehy223 7 лет назад

@michaeletzel4877
@michaeletzel4877 7 лет назад
***** Maybe I'm injecting way too much logic into a fictional situation, but it still bothers me. For the sake of the argument, most of what you described makes no sense at all, especially needing to fly at supersonic speeds just to stay in the air. This would mean that if the plane was going any slower than supersonic speeds it would not be able to fly. The plane would need to take off and land at supersonic speeds, and that in itself is more ridiculous than the idea of nukes taking planes down. Also, the pilots might not be able to manipulate the flight controls after an EMP, but that doesn't mean the wings stop producing lift. Paper airplanes produce lift, and they don't have control surfaces, and are not connected to electronics at all! The idea is plausible in one way though: if the aircraft had its control surfaces extended (like if it was turning) right when the EMP hit, and the control surfaces were stuck in the extended position, the aircraft would not be able to glide straight and level and would crash very quickly. However, if all the control surfaces are neutral when the EMP hits, the plane should be able to glide just fine for a while, depending on the altitude it's at. Also, in the real world, if an airplane were to impact the ground at supersonic speeds there would be pretty much nothing left in the wreckage that even remotely resembles an airplane. All the pieces of debris would be very small (you could hold pretty much every piece you find in one hand). You certainly wouldn't see the wing and fuselage sections so close to each other and relatively intact (by the way, the debris fields you see in the game are absolutely tiny compared to what is common in the real world). A debris pattern like that can only occur if the airplane crashed at low speed (only about 300 to 400 kilometers per hour, or 150 to 250 miles per hour).
@michaeletzel4877
@michaeletzel4877 7 лет назад
I do agree with the idea that the blast from a nuke could take a plane down. The crew of the Enola Gay (the plane that dropped the nuclear bomb on Hiroshima) needed to turn sharply immediately after dropping the bomb in order to be clear from the blast. This idea makes MUCH more sense than your other ones. :)
@spencerkurth3490
@spencerkurth3490 7 лет назад
Just so you guys know. Planes do use hydraulic fluid, not any electrical manipulation to manipulate the plane's controls. This is because nuclear and emp blasts or no, electrical failures happen all the time. That is why even in the largest of aircraft today, they do not use purely electronic manipulation.
@spencerkurth3490
@spencerkurth3490 7 лет назад
But the basic flight controls (ie. Rudders, horizontal and vertical stabilizers, and ailerons) do not depend on electricity. They are manipulated by direct control. Meaning that you would have to go and literally cut the physical control cords in these aircraft. This feature is because electrical failure happens all the time in aircraft and so essential controls are never allowed to rely on just electricity.

If you go to the Vim! Pop Factory, you can get some background lore on Erickson. Check out the Vim Mixing Terminal specifically in the factory section, along the East wall. He's the one who locked Grun up, and is apparently averse to hunting humans when there's other hunting in abundant supply. He also remarks that he finds the area soothing (I can't parse whether he means Far Harbor in general, or the Vim! factory in particular), and notes the opposite effect on the other super mutants. I know it's not unique for Super Mutants to wear bracers, but I thought it was interesting that Erickson wears just one metal bracer over the furry one on his left arm. Probably just a coincidence, but it reminded me of a PipBoy. Supposedly "pure, unmutated" humans like vault dwellers and the Enclave are the only ones that retain their intelligence when exposed to the FEV, and I thought the left-handed bracer might be a nod to that.

What happened to the runways at Boston airport, did it sink into Boston harbor or did bathesda forget to add it?
@Falloutgamer-nm4lt
@Falloutgamer-nm4lt 7 лет назад
I think it sunk into the harbor or it looks like Bethesda just ran out of room in the area plus maybe if they did the frames would drop a lot!?
@papajohnscena8777
@papajohnscena8777 7 лет назад
As well as probably sinking and eroding, the runways would have been much shorter as well. The planes taking off there appear to be shorter than normal planes we see today, and they were powered by uranium, possibly a much more powerful fuel than jet fuel. When combining shorter planes with more power, the time between when the plane first starts moving and when it leaves the ground would be only a matter of seconds, therefore runways did not require so much length.

Papa John's Cena But how would you land if they were shorter?
@papajohnscena8777
@papajohnscena8777 7 лет назад
Hmm, good point... Maybe they had the technology to slow the plane faster and still land it smoothly, but I wouldn't know. My theory was really loose and off the top of my head, the developers were probably just lazy.

Not sure how Boston Center wouldn't have seen the nuke when she was talking to Skylanes 1665, but it's apparent she has not from both her tone and what she actually says. I also find it hard to believe the pilot of 1665 didn't see the flash from the detonation. The relay tower audio definitely makes it sound like engine failure unrelated to the nuclear detonation

CrowDawg11 the plane could have been pointed away from the explosion, and planes that size can’t see behind them at all. Unless the tower at the airport only had one window and was pointed away from the flash, I can’t explain how flight coordinator(or whatever you would call who the pilot was talking to) wouldn’t have seen the nuke go off.

There is a mod that creates a stingray bomber. It works like Minutemen artillery. Throw a flare, choose the payload, wait for results.

Watched this and about half way through starting putting 2 and 2 together (well more like 2 and 0 because it's kind of the same username): You used to do those WoW machinima videos under Oxhorn Productions like inventing swear words. The wedding one floored me, my friends GF is named Lacey, and I keep saying it in that hoarse Tauren voice from that series.

Airlines actually do sell each other planes. I'm not sure about loaning them, but I wouldn't be surprised.

They also lease them to each other. Some are left unmarked specifically for leasing. They can even be leased with a full crew called wet leasing.
