I like the idea of Zordon's son. Perhaps his son delved too deep into the Morphing Grid in an effort to rescue his father from the time warp prison and lost his physical body in the process. He now needs the suit and power ruby to maintain physical form. You could also sprinkle in elements of the embodiment of fallen Rangers theory in that he could have the memories and experiences of past dead Rangers. So many in fact all their personalities blend together causing him to forget who he is.
Billy would have been the perfect candidate cause he knows the morphing grid inside & out with the teaching of Alpha 5 & Zordon Billy has proven himself worthy and showed true leadership so Billy would have made a perfect Phantom Ranger
@@Knightfall182 considering that Billy had many girls falling for him why wouldn’t it. He moves from girl to girl S1-S3. The ruby energizing him to keep him alive made the most sense seeing as he couldn’t be morphed due to the regenerator.
I always thought Billy, because he couldn't leave Aquatar without aging/dying, the suit and ruby were created by him to be able to help fight to save Zordon
there was a theory that Billy Cranston was the white power ranger, that was proven false in my opinion because if you remember when the command center blew up some of those negative effects from the explosion from the command center those negative energy waves went through Billy Cranston
I would like the fact that billy couldn't sustain being an adult courtesy of when he was the only one turned back into an adult at first when they were all kids. Because of this Billy needed a life source. The grid having been partially responsible, gave him immortality on the condition that he goes where he is needed.
Would love to see a TV series on the phantom Ranger, either on his origin or what happened to him after Countdown to Destruction. I really both the Billy Cranston & Zordon's son theory regarding his identity 👍
If you think about the Phantom Ranger? He carries many attributes that parallel to The Wraith in the 1980s starring Charlie Sheen. My theory is this... At some point it could be possible that Billy was summoned by the spirits of the fallen Power Rangers. This could have been through the Power Ruby. Billy decides to utilize both the Ruby and a power suit that bound Billy to the energies of the Morphin Grid but at a cost. Once Billy created the Phantom Ranger? Or became, he was bound to it as kind of a price. Both to the Power Ruby, and and the spirits of the fallen Rangers. In a way this was the energies itself that is the Morphin Grid. As far as the origins story, and also the comic of the Phantom Ranger, becoming the Phantom Ranger also could have given Billy the chance to transverse space and time in the Morphin Grid to attempt to try to undo some events to maybe fix the timeline and maybe save Zordon. Still all a hypothesis...
He's finally getting his action figure. And I will be completely my Zeo and In Space Rangers. So, I will have 3 complete Rangers teams, MMPR, Zeo, and In Space.
I like the idea of phantom ranger being Zordons son zordon was confined in a tube and need that tube now to keep his life force would been cool if that was the reason phantom ranger never revealed him self the suit is like his chamber the ruby sending energy waves through his body to keep him alive being powered by solar energy I would love that idea
Billy is the perfect choice for the Phantom Ranger. He knows the grid inside and out. He built the Zeo Rangers arsenal and Eqliptor being a failed or more likely corrupted experiment actually explains his sense of honor and his Love for Astronoma/Carone.
Zeo arsenal, turbo powers and zords. Due to the rescue zords being similar to the turbo zords and linking well and the fact that the delta megazord matched the Astro mega ship that was meant to be a zord for a long time. And the data cards for the mega voyager that darkonda clearly got from the phantom ranger in the delta discovery.
I hope Edge of Darkness gives full disclosure to his identity after many years. Now only we know he was some sort of a knight before becoming a kind of being made of the Morphin Grid.
I like the theory of him being Zordon's son. Plus, if it was Billy and he was showing Cassie some attention that could lead to romance, then it kills Billy's Aquitian love story and would feel off since Cassie was still in high school and billy was at least a few years past that plus whatever the de-aging device added.
Well a cosmic being having awareness of human social morality wouldn't have been a widely common thing in PR. Almost all of the aliens not named Zordon were kind of ignorant to human ways when they first appeared. For all the Phantom knew, humans could have been morphalogical life forms that's lived for a long time. Makes more sense than Billy coming back and kinda/sorta willingly flirting with a teenage girl. That's more creepy because Billy would absolutely know the societal ramifications.
@@phayroent9742 Haha, and Cassie wouldn't be the type Billy is attracted to anyway. His supposed girl of his dreams ended up being an alien scientist from Aquatar. Why would he throw that away to flirt with a wanabe punk rocker teen in Turbo
Not his 1st love\love interests billy had a ton more than any of the original cast (Laura, cestria and the aquatarian to name a few. Damn billy was rocking it back then.
Billy since I’m a old school fan of the OG Power Rangers you have a blessed Soul have a blessed day and blessed life doing what you love and thanks for all you do for us
The Billy logic is spot on. The Phantom Ranger’s sole purpose was to get rid of Ecliptor, as soon as he turned to dust from Zordon’s energy blast the Phantom Ranger has served its purpose and probably “turned off” oh man that would have been amazing
Billy's Story would of definitely made sense and tied in with that encounter when Cassie asked who he was and he responded "a friend" this would of gave hints that it could of been a fellow past ranger since billy left for Aqatar to live and because the alien rangers had the recources, the Eliptor back story and Phantom Ranger story being Billy would of definitely tied in to it!
It definitely would be awesome for me if the Phantom Ranger was Billy because Billy was + has always been one of THE BEST RANGERS to be a part of the original Mighty Morphin power Rangers series. But Mainly because Billy has always been my All time favorite Ranger 😊💙
In the series they always stated that his power was Eltarian in nature. So, I always assumed that He was either Zordon's sin, or relative. Possible Zordon himself. Who knows, maybe the energy wave when released from his containment tube ultimate was absorbed by the gemstone in the Phantom Ranger's chest and thus gave Zordon a new life. Those were the theories I was working with before the comic came out.
My thought on Phantom Ranger was that he was the first ranger. With the Pseudo-Emissary idea just help to improve it. That in the early days of the battle against evil Zordon and his allies could draw power from the grid, but couldn't fully harness it. Until a they decided to find a way. Based off Phantom's story we'll call it project knight. A means to physically harness the power of the grid, and Phantom was the 1st and the Phantom Ruby being the 1st power coin. He's technically not a black ranger but a Phantom using all the colors/powers of the grid. Because of this not only was he stronger but he never tired allowing him to take the fight to evil on a never-ending bases. While Zordon continued his work improving the knight project, which would form the power rangers, Phantom fought tirelessly. Until out of nowhere 1000 years had passed. Zordon starting to worry about his friend, as he notices problems in the project knight's continued development, brings him in to help him. But then arise a new problem; he can't de-morph. While the morphing grid energized him his body still aged with the grid supplementing his deteriorating health. This continued until there was nothing left of him but his mind, which now exist inside the grid itself. The only thing connecting his mind to his former body is the Phantom Ruby. This explains how he was dying without the ruby. Without his mind to hold his new body together it was breaking apart to return to the grid.
This channel is AWESOME! 6th rangers is such a big part of my generations childhood starting with Tommy as the green and white ranger and ever since Tommy the sixth ranger was always the best part of the new seasons as you always knew a sixth ranger would show up and blow us away especially when they had a chest shield lol
This video was wonderful. I enjoyed how you combined the show information on The Phantom Ranger with the information from the Power Rangers comics series. You are absolutely right in saying that comic was good. I really enjoyed it and can't wait to see what Boom! Studios will do with the The Phantom Ranger later in their awesome Power Rangers comics series.
All of those theories sound pretty good. Though the idea it being Billy was a bit of a stretch to me. Possibly as Zardon's son sounds very cool. A robot with past Rangers souls is really cool. Whatever the case, the Phantom Ranger was a really cool character and I wish they kept him longer in Turbo, In Space & other past series to give Phantom a bigger role. I would of like to see him and Cassie's relationship developed even more and that she knows his true identity. But still, the Phantom Ranger was the coolest character of the Power Rangers series!
I like the idea of the phantom ranger being an embodiment of the morphing grid. In my opinion, shows that the morphing grid can have some human characteristics and what it means to be a hero
When the phantom ranger made his first appearance in power rangers turbo, cassie was developing a crush on him and later he started showing that he liked her back... So I don't think that it was billy because when we last saw him, delphine and him were getting married, so I don't think that it's him.
I would've liked the concept of Billy Cranston theory, that makes much more sense than just a robot, cuz he had feelings and compassion and no robot can feel like that
If Billy isn’t the Phantom Ranger now, hoping Boom can just retcon something where Billy can have the gold ranger power. Really feels like he got screwed out of something that felt so right.
I never knew much about the phantom ranger but I figured because of his attire he was an early alpha squad SPD ranger that gained the ability to time travel through possibly his space ship, and he came back to help the turbo and space rangers In The past because he learned that a ranger with a similar suite to his helped them and gave theny new zords and tried to rescue zordon, so he realizes that's him and he fulfills his destiny and completes the cycle of history, returning and retiring in the future in the SPD world but possibly training the future alpha squad SPD rangers later. I know far fetched but that what I thought
Would of loved to see more of the Phantom Ranger during the Turbo TV series! The suit design for the Phantom Ranger I felt was very unique and really good! 👌🏻. Both the theorys about his identity whether it be Zordons Son? Or Billy Cranston would of been great if it were meant to be! I personally like the idea of it being Billy Cranston! Hearing about the PR unlimited comic got me excited! So will have to pick that up! Great video as always. 😎👍🏻⚡⚡
My theory (prior to the recent issue): the Phantom Ranger is actually Saban’s Masked Rider, and they can’t reveal his identity for copyright reasons. In seriousness, since he’s royalty, it’s possibly his family struck a truce with Dark Spectre to keep Edenoi safe when things started to escalate. He couldn’t fight as the Masked Rider anymore to keep said truce, so he’d need new powers and a secret identity to continue the fight. When asked who he is, he replies “a friend.” It’s a weak connection, but the Masked Rider’s first appearance was in “A friend in need” so that’s one more fun convenience to play with.
Phantom ranger being the ghost of all the previous rangers that came before him was a better idea and having his identity be zordon son would be pretty cool
As much as I like the idea that the Phantom Ranger is Billy, I wouldn't be comfortable with an official on-screen reveal unless David Yost himself was ready to come back to the show. Alas his integrity as a union man would mean he wouldn't cross the picket line and appear in a non-union show, even for a cameo. However in a world where Chris Ecclestone can return to Doctor Who years after he left under a dark cloud, anything could happen. However, if Billy was the Phantom Ranger things would make more sense in Turbo if he was also the one who worked with Zordon on the Turbo powers as a fail-safe for when the Zeo powers couldn't be used. It would be natural then that he would base the Phantom Ranger powers on the Turbo powers that he had worked on
Rorrie D. Travis. in the Hasbro era is union, so it looks like things may be changing since they aren't using sentai footage going forward (or need a new deal very soon)
I always wanted the rangers to have more armor on their suits instead of the spandex...a whole team in different colors and tweaks with a suit like phantom ranger would be cool...let zack Snyder direct the next power rangers movies also
i always thought billy deserved better and more. so id always hope it was billy. the robot that embodies all the previous ones is a bit out dated now due to the super uber mega whatever rangers that have legacy powers or legacy team ups so that kinda idea isnt really needed any more. master morphers kinda kill a single embodiment thing. i hope they get billy to come back one day escpecially if david yost could bring himself to forgive the transgressions of the past to make a return like JDF ASJ and the others. it would be great for a billy return
I like the idea of the Phantom Ranger being a fallen former Ranger because as a 19 year old I remember hearing voices like " Austin St. JOHN, David Yost JDF Johnny Yong Bosh Steve Cardinas etc.
The Billy Cranston back-story would make the most sense as the official theory of the community, as far as I've read and spoken with, is that Billy died when his lover was pregnant, and his soul used the Morphing Grid's power to "create" the Phantom ranger.
I like the billy being the phantom ranger. Because makes sense when he arrives and notice that his old power rangers firends are gone and seeing the 2nd team of turbo rangers are to rare for him to reveal his identity. So thats the reason he keeps running away from them
ok, so why not both? kinda. Have the phantom ranger be Billy, but have the phantom powers be remnant energy from every fallen ranger's place on the grid. This experience would give him the skill to create the master morpher and would explain how powers that we know were depleted or lost can still be used so long as the ranger in question has the imprint on the grid, the exact opposition in effect to the remnant energy used by Billy as the phantom ranger. With that as an explanation, we can justify Tommy's master morphers ability to transform him into the green OG Ranger, white ranger and safely tap the Zeo powers! Heck, you could have Billy be the reason certain people whom are not from Trifectia somehow getting hold of the gold zeo powers for a crossover episode! So yea that's my hot take, peace!
Better left a mystery, once you reveal it as some character he looses the ultra cool factor. Unless they go and have some new story planned for him in the present, which the reveal would support, better left alone :)
My own personal idea for the Phantom Ranger’s identity was that he was another human ranger from another planet. Like Andros, he was another ranger from outer space but instead of KO35 being his home planet, it was Eltar. However, he must’ve been badly injured in battle to the point that he almost died. However, instead of being frozen in a chamber like Zhane, Zordon, had the Phantom’s suit modified (silver wires, red ruby, etc.) and in return this would keep him alive. He can take off the mask but not for long which would explain why he never took it off.
You gotta do an update video since the power rangers universe comic is now out and shows how he became the phantom ranger. And what that gem in his chest is for as well.
When the Phantom Ranger was injured, they showed he had what looked like wires exposed. That made me think he was a robot or something that was always in the suit and needed the Power Ruby as it was his power source to keep him functioning.
Billy will always be my phantom ranger. Though I don't agree with the idea that billy made Ecliptor since Ecliptor raised Astronima as a kid, so he's been around longer than billy has been a ranger.
Rewatching power rangers as a adult and not seeing the episodes in order, I thought the easy out was for him to be connected Zane somehow, like maybe he was the disembodied power of Zane idk
I have a much Different Theory but I liked yours too. However however he reviled where he was from in one of the episodes and how the ruby was his power. So we should start there. Because it happens in Power Ranger Turbo because Zordon is the one who tells them not to long before his replacement take his place. Plus from the comic if he was a knight that he couldn't be Billy and Billy on the show does make contact with the rangers after he gets his youth back or his regular age back on the show before we never see from him again and I think if memory severs me right it was before the shift or the hand off or passing of the torch to T.J. and Cassie's Team of Rangers. Which kind of puts Billy out of the running. But it could of been the Clone of Tommy from the past. Or it could be some on from L'Tar just like Zordon
The Billy line could have had more potential for an engaging story but I like the Ghost idea. The Ghost coulda evolved and represented all Rangers that use the grid. It also could have contained teasers on a future reveal of the nature of the grid.
Love all your videos awesome stuff ! Just wondering will you expand into Super sentai or Kamen rider ? Just Question happy either way ! Love the way you lrese t and tell a story keep it up !!
I think the Billy theory holds the most weight (in the show anyway). Since he couldn't sustain powers, it would make sense that he would make his own suit, possibly by using alien tech from Eltare, Triforia, and/or Aquitar. That would make the whole mutual attraction with Cassie a bit weird for a kids show, though.
People often forget that the Phantom Ranger isn't an actual Power Ranger but an ally with similar abilities. We never see him morph and his costume does not have a morpher anywhere on it, he's just a badass that wants to help.
Two of the best quote unquote 6 the Rangers that they've ever had in this entire series The Blue Centurion and the Phantom Ranger, given very disrespectful TV endings and storylines.
The concept of Billy first creating Ecliptor is wrong since Ecliptor says he was built to be evil. The timing doesn't line up either. How could Billy create Eclyptor, somehow loose him than Eclyptor raises Astronema. There simply isn't enough time for that.
Back in 2nd to 3rd grade after seeing the phantom ranger i always wondered who phantom ranger he was orginally supposed to reveal his identity in a 3 part episode of countdown to destruction butt fox kids and sabon made it into 2 parts cause of budget i still think he is zordon"s kid to this day
I think it would have been better if Billy was the phantom ranger. He was already making world class tech as a teenager, making things like flying cars. Between him learning from Alpha and Zordon plus his knowledge of the grid he could easily make a tech suit that could "siphon" morphing power from the grid. Most power rangers are bestowed their powers, so maybe using the morphing powers without permission is taboo, which is why Billy kept it a secret. I think it would be good for character development, it makes Billy the Tony Stark of the PR universe and actually gives him something to do. All of the original rangers are up to something but Billy is sitting around doing nothing while all the other rangers are active at this time.
I have a theory that he is an ancient ranger who had lost everyone with the battle against evil and that his family ,friends, teammates and his homeworld were all destroyed so in the end he made the ultimate sacrifice to prevent what had happened to his planet from happening again so he wanders the universe helping fellow rangers.
