If you help Dave get to Old Olney. He will chill at the trash bins and tell you to get lost if you bug him. I remember I spent about 30 mins in real time walking Dave there and then wren we got there and he told me to get lost. I went and attracted some death claws led them to Dave and popped a stealth boy. Dave didn’t last long and he died brutally

Gotta love Fallout 3. You're on a quest to find your own father, but in the process, you can get mixed up in a situation where you have the option of taking away some other kids' father. That's some heavy stuff right there. Also, I made it the Republic of Rosie when I went there. Because fuck Dave. For some reason though, even though I didn't clear out Old Olney, when I went there later, Dave was still sitting and moping in a corner, despite being surrounded by deathclaws. Maybe it's because I didn't follow him there.

Even though I don't like Dave as an individual or a leader, he is the leader that they vote in. I don't think that it's a fair election since he essentially has the family brainwashed into thinking that he is God's gift to the world. That being said, is it really any better if the player rigs the election and strips the family of their votes? I wish there were more options to convince the residents that a different candidate is the better choice. But, oh well. I think Rosie is the best choice for president, but, as much as it pains me to say it, since he is genuinely voted in I think Dave is the rightful president.

I feel the same way as you, Oxhorn, but in the end, I justified it by thinking about what was best for me. :D Remove a thin skinned, volatile dictator (in all but name), and install a rational, experienced, even tempered leader, who is positively predisposed towards me and trade with the rational wastelanders. Yes, it's a messy business, nation building, but it's in the best interests of the greater good. The Greater Good...

Seems like self-defeating logic to me. I agree it's childish of him to leave just because he loses the presidency, but his children clearly are better off WITH him than without.

Wow. First of all the kids are far better off with him, to teach them survival. You want to see narcissistic parents, well those would be single moms on gov welfare. Who were the first in the wasteland to get conquered by the likes of raiders. And yes, these kids growing up without only Bob as an example of male authority is quite a hopeless future. There's a raider camp at a nearby farm. With only Bob left, they are doomed.

the kids are better off without him, because Rosie has the experience and maturity to be able to run a successful caravan trade even in the Wasteland with raiders, BOS/Enclave, creatures and has shown not to abandon the entire family in a huff to start all over again somewhere else if things don't go her way. Dave would simply stagnate and stump the growth of his children that can't think for themselves and be independent. though one of the girls think it's a game anyway. think of Religious polygamous cults and that is the closest thing we have to scale with the 'Republic of Dave' It is this "security" and "sheltered" from the outside world at the cost of true options and choice, if lead to grow has shown to become nepotism and despotism.

What if, before the great war. A Royal house and relatives fled the country sheltering in US, and when the great war started survived the fallout thanks to their own resources. What remains of that dynasty could very well have been the origin to the republic of Dave. Maybe few families starting anew in a world where everything is dead, and being wealthy starts to lose any meaning. These people tried to keep their story alive teaching to older generations, laws, history, and forms of govern in hopes of a better future. It was a noble idea but, the wasteland doesn't do noble. only few of that generation survived. Republic of Dave could be a great piece of history

The Republic of Dave is indeed strange, but for a post-apocalypse setting, it's not surprising one would exist. The lack of law and order makes it so anyone could announce themselves supreme leader of their own land, with the government of the old world gone. And while a narcissist is a terrible example for anyone to be a leader, with him stroking his compansating ego and falsely indoctrinating people about his life, and acting like such an man-child when he doesn't get his way....he's still better than other people; wouldn't want Bob to be in charge.

I'm of the opinion that the kids in this instance are better off without Dave being a dominant parent. He's a good dad in one sense but in others he is a bad father. I'd say the kids "nice" mother would have a far more positive Influence on the children and their republic, making them more rounded people. As is, they have learned most of their character from Dave and are turning out kind of weasely because of it.

Maybe we should just leave them be. As a person yes, Dave is terrible, but his family was safe, fed, and had access to unratiated water. He also cared for his kids (even if how he treated his wives was dubious) and honestly, he wasn’t a threat. They could have just kept living a peaceful life, even if it was deeply flawed.
