The Future is Wild is a series aired in 2002 that explored how life could evolve in 3 different time scales: 5, 100, and 200 million years into the future. presenting very different possible scenarios.
This is the sequel to my previous reimagined version of the series: • The Future is Wild: Sp... . In addition to some creatures of the original show, this video also includes several new speculative animals imagined by the audience of this channel, keeping in mind the the canon of the original series.

One thing that annoys me about The Future is Wild is how many of its environments feel incomplete, so it’s great to see these fan-designed creatures filling the gaps.

Yup. The series only have few reptiles and no amphibian. Also they likely forget if deer, goat, and some other large animals which aren't pig are still pretty adaptable and have possibility to survive in the far future
@Ezullof

@@prasetyodwikuncorojati2434 I mean, ambiphians are already disappearing, and the only reason other lineages get to fill emptied ecolonigal niches is precisely because deers, goats etc disappeared.

@@prasetyodwikuncorojati2434 They also forgot that crocodiles and sharks have survived pretty much everything and if we don't kill them off, they'll still be around in the future. It would also be interesting if monitor lizards revolve into mosasaurs in the future.

@@slipstreamxr3763 the reason why mammals nearly extinct 100million years later is pretty ridiculous. How can they got extinct just because outcompeted by other group of vertebrates and even invertebrates without any clear explanation if both of them evolving certain traits that make them more efficient than mammals. Or babookari descendant that become sapient and reaching the same technology level as 21 century human indiscriminately overhunted ALL types of mammal for various reasons or just because cultural and ideological reason. Then due to their act almost all mammals, even the fast breeding one like rodents and rabbits disappear. And the remaining form is one that life in very remote place, one of them evolving into poggle

I think one thing people often overlook is that there is already extensive savannah and semi-desert scrubland in South America, occupied by many species that are often viewed as rainforest creatures in the public consciousness. Toco toucan, the most "toucan" of the toucans, for instance, is NOT a rainforest bird, but a savannah specialist. Same applies to things like hyacinth macaw, with its love-hate relationship with the toco toucan.

Also, more believable ecosystems and animals. Many of the design were just impossible, and the environment made too alien on purpose.
@YaBoiDREX
@YaBoiDREX Год назад
@@EzullofTo be fair. From a Triassic Dinosaur’s perspective the idea of large mammals giving live birth and producing milk sounds insane. Or flying mammals like bats, or lizards with no legs but can still climb well or even glide in some species like snakes. Or a new species of plants which completely takes over the landscape so much so they dominate the earth like grass. Or a plant that produces colorful spurts and food for free like fruit and flowers. Life is Strange and Nature is unpredictable. It isn’t confined to the rules of what humans think is or isn’t possible.

I always felt the Future is Wild while well-intentioned only offered a tiny glimpse into the diverse ecosystem of the far future focusing on only a couple of species. Another is how they reduce mammals to a shadow of their former selves, I mean rats are some of the most successful species out there, they could easily evolve to fill various niches.

Incredibly awesome designs! Honestly as amazing as The Future is Wild is they missed out on a lot of potential. I remember one scene in the cartoon series had them looking at the Earth 100 million years in the future with Emily suggesting they explore an island that used to be South America, wondering what wildlife might exist there. This idea is especially intriguing since we got to see the Amazon Grasslands 95 million years beforehand, so one can only imagine how things turned out! There’s so many areas that go about unexplored like that, and so many creatures out there that go undiscovered!

Honestly something that bothers me about TFIW scenario is how Mammals, and then Vertebrates as a whole, become fully extinct by 200 Million Years, despite them basically having last far longer then that. If I did my own version of TFIW, I’d change 5 Million Years to 50 Million, and make 200 Million Years a new Age of Synapsids, where the descendants of future mammals rise and dominant Novopangea
@the_blue_jay_raptor
@the_blue_jay_raptor 8 месяцев назад
I am also annoyed with Tetrapods being wiped out 200 Million years in the future, it's really annoying to me because it seems TFIW has made it seem set in stone. If I were to make my own future Spec evo project I would have Birds evolve back into Dinosaur like forms and have them dominate Pangea Ultima Also if you're wondering why they skipped 50 million years, if I remember correctly it's because of After man. I think After man's creatures were going to be used but Dreamworks owned the rights to the IP so they skipped it (since I think After man takes place 50 Million Years in the future).

I would say that the Sea Grazer would definitely take the role of modern horses or cows in the future.When the jungle dissapears in the Amazon basin,they would most likely evolve into peaceful grazers of the sawannas,and grow much bigger.Similarly like the Shagrats.Because with the absents of lamas and horses,it is more likely possible to take this niche for themselves.Because when there is an open niche out there,why would you adapt into water? And they would provide one of the basic prey items for carakillers. But thats my opinion.

3:14 Thank you for choosing my concept! Great Job with every creature as always! Your interpretation looks nearly identical to what I imagined it to be! And of course congratulations to everyone else who got their animal featured! For anyone interested here are the original notes I made: Name: Great Abyssal Newt Taxonomy: Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Amphibia Order: Urodela Family: Salamandridae Subfamily: Pleurodelinae Genus: Abyssotriton Species: polaricus Phylogeny: Its ancestor is the smooth newt (Lissotriton vulgaris) which has a wide distribution throughout modern Europe (even into Scandinavia and isolated in northern Russia) Physical Description: The great abyssal newt is a giant amphibian. In fact it is the biggest that ever existed. Old individuals are known to reach up to 11 meters. It is a paedomorphic newt. Meaning it stays in its larval stage throughout its entire life (similar to an Axolotl). Just like Axolotls this amphibian posseses external gills (which are bigger than in comparable Amphibians due to its immense size to absorb more oxygen - skin breathing isn't as efficient in big animals as in small ones). But unlike the other larval stages, this species can actually retreat its gills into gill pouches when disturbed (during feeding or when fish are trying to bite into the gill-similar to sea hares). Furthermore the great abyssal newt lacks eyes and is blind. Its bodyshape is a mix of a wobbegong shark and a Chinese giant salamander. It is relatively flat with its flanks and chin adorned with "whiskers" similar to the wobbegong. The basic colouration is a dark grey with very small white and red spots around the body to mimic smaller organisms like sea Stars, sponges or sea cucumbers. Due to its ambush hunting style of life its tail fin is reduced in comparison with other amphibian larvaes. Context: Due to the ever increasing freezing temperature in its native range the smooth newt became bigger to compensate with colder climates. Soon bodies of freshwater became scarce (due to glaciation), so the now bigger newts had to adapt and evolved to tolerate higher concentrations of salt in the water. They first moved down the rivers into brakish waters and later moved on into the sea ever increasing in size due to a lack of competition. (The colder climates lead to an extinction of larger predators - the same exctinction lead to the gannetwhale evolving.) Due to the cold temperatures on land the great abyssal newt lost its adult land stage and evolved to only live in its laval stage. The thicker ice on the oceans surface lead to darker oceans which in combination with polar nights (long timespans without sunlight) lead to a reduction in the eyes and ended with a complete loss of its eyes (similar to some cave dwelling salamanders and fish). Its low metabolism-ambusher lifestyle allows this amphibian to obtain an extremely old age. The oldest ever found was estimated to have been 300 years old!

My custom: Seaphibian: 200 MYFN, a frog that had moved to sea due to the rising temperatures, developing tails while retaining tongues and lungs. They have a forest variant too.
