Zwift has recently made a change that removes the ability to create a new Zwift account for kids. It also removes to ability to renew a kids account for free. A video detailing everything will be live next week.

This is a great video that hits the nail on the head about how disappointing it is that Zwift has made this terrible decision. I told my son that he could have his own kids account when he was the minimum age. The time has come, but now it's not available to him. 😢

Yeah, based on what Zwift described to me, the decision seems to be set in stone and I don't see things changing anytime in the future unfortunately.

Had no idea about these changes but it's sad to see them make cycling more inaccessible for younger riders out there. I get it from a business perspective but it would be nice to at least offer a heavy discount for junior riders assuming you can prove you're actually a junior rider.

My 10 and 7 year olds have been recently riding on zwift, so it saddens me that it's no longer free. I haven't seen official documentation on this.

Their communication has been pretty poor on this. I’ll try to provide a lot more in depth information about this in my next video.

Thanks Ollie. Likely due to a legal reason and choosing to prioritize other areas of the business. I’ll detail this more next week when I have more details

I don't think there's anything strange about it. Zwift is a business that was created to make money, it's not a charity. They are not making money giving away free accounts. It's not as if we're talking about $1000+/year... Oli & other kids (or their parents) can continue to use Zwift by paying $150/year. Based on Oli's BMC, his pain cave setup, and his phone, I can't imagine this amount of money is unaffordable, and knowing how expensive cycling is, it's also not unaffordable for a large majority of kids that are on Zwift. And if, for whatever reason, kids don't want to pay, there are other free online options available.

You do bring up a few good points, and it makes sense as a business decision, just one that is a bit sad to see as it encouraged a lot of riders to join and use the platform to begin with. Financial reasons are a big reason why many don’t ride, and I do know of many who have limited room to spend on a Zwift subsxription.
