The Future Of Hellraiser & Horror With Hellraiser Judgment's Director Gary J Tunnicliffe Part One 

Yes!!! More of Mr. H & Gary Tunnicliffe! Their first discussion a while back is what started me on this channel!

It's all about EXPECTATIONS....I find it unfair to just say that "horror" is polarizing in context of the Hellraiser franchise. Jump scares vs gore vs torture.... NO, you have missed the point. A young Clive Barker started something that transcended the horror genre as we have ever known it to be. Much more than "Horror"... it was a psychological thriller, playing with our assumptions regarding "good vs evil", "pain vs pleasure"... and even "heaven vs hell". I was so impressed with the world created in the first Hellraiser, I couldn't wait to deepen its exploration with the sequels... feeling that we only got a glimpse in the first viewing. but each sequel has gotten us further away from the themes established in the first. It seems that all the scripts are written by authors who do not care... or even want to understand why the first one was GREAT. Apparently, even the older Clive himself has abandoned the exploration that HE started. Judging by many comments by Mr H's fans, I KNOW I'm not alone in my opinions about this. There must be a script writer out there that can put this franchise back on track... and .. make a movie that is UNFORGETTABLY strange and wonderful... and intelligent.... and terrifying. When I was able to forget that I was watching a Hellraiser movie, "Judgement" wasn't half bad. it had a lot going for it, and I had a good time with it. ... but.... THAT ANGEL! She was the worst. Was she supposed to be a stripper trying to look like a Victoria Secret Christmas ornament???.... those dumb boots. There is NO excuse for that shortfall in creativity... ;) To counter the look of the Cenobites, you needed something inspired... something extra badass.... (oooh I could have helped you... I'm a costume designer... oh well) But yeah, I'm still a customer. I show up to see every one of these "sequels". I arrive with an open mind.... HOPING.... for a sequel that is worthy, and always very disappointed. From what I got from this interview, I must just ABANDON HOPE.

Great Interview bro. I personally liked Judgement and the added mythology. I thought the Auditor and his role was a great addition. The Angel & heaven aspect was dope and added layers. I also really liked the banter between Pinhead & The Angel. With a bigger budget i think we would have got done epic scenes with the Cenobites, Pinhead & the Angel. I would love to see his sequel where the Auditor goes looking for Pinhead so he can overthrow the new Hell Priest.

Great video! I found my head nodding all the way through this.. I loved hereditory and it would have been my film of year until I went to see suspiria last week.. Wow.. Judgement was a refreshing addition to the franchise and it would be a great transition into a TV series which is where I feel this needs to go.. Gary seems like a great guy and he should be proud of his work!

Love this interview format btw. I think we expect too much from these classic horror flicks being remade. I get it, it’s tough to connect with a new pinhead much like it was with Jackie Earle Haley in the Nightmare remake. Doug Bradley was a big part of pinhead’s persona. But it’s unrealistic to think these actors can continue forever. I’m trying to be open minded to new iterations because I love these universes and want to see more in the future. Keep up the good work!!!

I rented this sometime this year. I liked it just fine.

I loved hellraiser judgement. But my favorite scene comes from the most hated hellraiser movie to some. It's in hellraiser 3 Terry is trying to get out of the room and pinhead manipulates her to do what he wants. Its because this the only time in the franchise where we can really see pinhead control someone not through fear but through words very intriguing

This is completely random and off-topic but I have to say that you have an awesome voice, man. To me, you sound exactly like Colin Salmon, who was in a few of the Bond films.

Best since the first sequel by far

Judgement is by far the best hellraiser since Hell Bound but nothing beats the original, if Gary had a budget, a Clive Barker script a decent cinematographer good visual effects and a decent editor and Doug Bradley he could make a fantastic Scarlet Gospel's movie cos his tone and vibe are bang on the Money

I've always said, movies should be reviewed by people who have an interest in the genre. You get so called 'reviewers' looking for a life meaning or message in a horror film or they'll use big pretentious words that are out of place and are over analytic. Hellraiser Judgement was an epic effort for such a low budget and shows the pure talent of Gary. Superbly written, brings fresh ideas and the FX with that size of budget were very impressive. How can you say anything negative about it? What the hell were these people expecting who complained about the film????? The downside of the Internet is that it gives a voice to the people who haven't got a clue. Having an opinion is all very well, but when it's given by an idiot it becomes tiresome.

Despite its budgetary constraints, I found myself enjoying Judgement despite the somewhat baffling leaps of logic the movie took. Tunnicliffe as the Auditor was an absolute delight. The only thing that did kinda irk me though was the introduction of Angels, and by their existence, God. I loved Hellbound because it firmly placed itself outside of the Judeo-Christian pantheon and went for something a little different, almost Lovecraftian. Leviathan as the unknowable, faceless entity, and the Cenobites existing not to punish conventional sinners, but to "enlighten" those who seek experience. The series drifted further and further from that, and I rather hoped that Tunnicliffe, as a fan himself, would bring it closer to that original direction, instead of further cementing the Cenobites as yet another in a long line of conventional "demons".

Bad is it entertaining movie I know the guy in Doug Bradley but he's way better no offense but he is a good Pinhead the horror drama Clive Barker's Hellraiser movie remake is going to do or the rumor tortured Souls I keep hearing about Hellraiser judgement ain't a bad movie I'm just going to say right now

Liked the film but think it would have been better with a bigger budget and a larger scope...

My issue with hereditary was there were jarring tonal shifts during the last half or so of the movie. They didnt work for me and took away from the excellent (actual) slow burn of the first half. I didnt really find it scary at all either.

I finally watched and enjoyed Judgment. It was definitely better than most of the others in the series (especially the steaming pile of garbage, Revelations). The Auditor was an interesting addition to the lore. I wouldn't mind seeing what more he can do with the series.

I loved this fn movie!!! Just watched it this minute in on demand. Gonna watch the hell out of it next 48 hours until my $5.99 is up. Bloodlines was way out there, but pretty good. 3 was corny af, but good. 5 ( inferno) with Craig shaefer, was ok, it mixed with the cenibites not to well, but the architect arc was good n mysterious. Horror n blood was ok, there ws originality too: Cowboy samurais, Ice cream truck driver filthy pervert with porn on inside. Funny and sadistic n sick all at Same time. Part 6 - hellworld was fun and neat..,tho the cenibites has nothing to with film at all, they were just cash grab and blatant marketing hope. Had future Superman in it as well as future Cyborg in all DC cartoons and King Ezekiel in walking dead. Part 7 - Deaders. Original and scary n cult classic in the making. Kari Wurher is cute and spunky with moxy thrown in. Pin head ( Doug bradly) had great interaction and dialogue, well scripted n superb acting. It had fun and interesting n fresh scenes: party train, junky suicide cult, the cockney train guy was funny af. The cenibites in it worked, they just didn’t fit that well or had anything to do with hell really or the cenibite lore. Part 8- seekers Uhhh, Meh at best. Kirstie is back! But not really, she barely brings back anything of the older movies back. The bad. Guy is her fiancé? What...? Stoopid ! It does bring u with main guy through hell and horror, reliving his hell over n over. But this has been done b4. Nothing new really. Just meh at best. It didn’t “suck” tho. I can name 100’s worst. Part 8- revaluation. I didn’t really get the narrative much. I loved upper middle class entitled kids getting into trouble and finding “hell”. Then they get their families involved. And the brother n sister secrets. Then brings their snooty yuppie families through it as well. I will have to watch again. Was music n score good? Can’t remember. Was their hot chicks ( or dudes too) to ogle??!! I don’t think their was much originality or epic scenes of Gore and horror? I don’t think there’s any cliffhanger or questions to be had or mystery? But this was a D+ And part 10. “JUDGMENT”. Love it! Great job director, and cool beans being on MR.H !! I respect MR.H. Tho I disagree on knocking films and Disney’s and liberal sjw movies...that’s just what r country is now in USA! Deal with it! I hate it too!!!!!! lol But..., but; u have to take with a grain of salt. If U don’t like Star Wars anymore or terminator , quit talking about it!!!! I hate the new terminator! Yeah judgement was crap. Script / acting / Some affects cheap and yes I'm aware it's a B-movie. The only good thing was the new pinhead.

Dear gods, this is awful. I love Mr H and I guess points to Tunnicliffle for being willing to face the backlash but M H didn’t really give it to him. What I hate about Tunnicliffle is how he generalizes his critics and doen’t admit that what he made could be awful on a critical level, which it was. I really wanted to like Judgment, but he made that really hard for me with it’s paint & spackle Seven rip off plot, horrible acting, and gross out for the sake of gross out with no story purpose that makes anything resembling sense. It some ways it’s the worst Hellraiser film because it represents everything present in the worst Hellraiser films.
