Hellraiser: Judgment may have it’s shortcomings but I think it’s evident Gary is a good director. Maybe if someone comes up with a tighter script that focuses more on the theme instead of a side quest he could pull of quite the treat.

Auditor spin-off! Forgot the need for pinhead or have him make a tiny cameo but have the auditor interview humans that cover the seven deadly sins ( just as an example I'm sure there are better ways to connect the characters ) and make it purely about the way hells "office staff" not only deal with those who seek, but how they orchestrate new horrors upon the world, I swear there's a film in there somewhere with a much better theme than a random guy waxing lyrical on a RU-vid video off the cuff! Get to it Gary!!!

I think a cool intro to a new Hellraiser would be a close up shot of the God Leviathan. Camera zooms out while the structure slowly spins above the endless labyrinth landscape. Casting its evil black gaze over all it rules. The suffering sounds of countless victims evoking an insurmountable Hell. Scene dissolves into another close up shot of the Lament configuration centered on dirty table accompanied by its keeper and the question "What is your pleasure sir?" Ide like to see a film with a Hp Lovecraftian angle. The Laviathan is some force of nature older than the universe. A being that was born in the void. The lament configuration isnt just a doorway into its world but is also a extension of it. Basically a direct sequel to Hellbound. Some really cool ideas were suggested in that film. Im not into the christian perspective of the current films. Rather "God" or the ultimate creator could just be as alien to the troubles of human beings as much as the Laviathan is nothing more than a force of nature that delivers Torment and the cenobites are workers carrying out its design. Totally agree Hellraiser is best when its a Drama focused on fucked up people and the Supernatural element the Cenobites bring into already messed up circumstances are just icing on the cake. Dare I say it I thought Hellraiser Inferno was more interesting than Hell on Earth

Thank you Mr H and Gary, another great chat. Firstly, I definitely think Hellraiser would be better suited to a series where we can follow the characters on their descent. However if we are talking film directors Big budget name: You mentioned David Fincher; would make a dark, grisly and macabre feature that would pique the interest of those outside the Hellraiser fan base. Deserved Name: Gary Tunnicliffe; so far so good. I went in expecting Judgment to be utter tripe and think it has some great ideas. Some execution which I believe was mostly budgetary with some studio interference for good measure. Gary is an excited fan; but with the ability to capture the feel for the mythos while expanding it and not afraid to push it's boundaries. Left Field Choice: The Soska Sisters; you mentioned brothers but I would go with sisters. Jen and Sylvia Soska have the imagination and creativity; coupled with the willingness to push boundaries with darker themes (American Mary could be in the same world as Hellraiser quite easily). Some of the visuals they create are glorious; See No Evil 2, not the best film ever but some of the shots and visuals are exquisite. I'm a huge fan of the mythos and the franchise so let's be honest I would see it regardless but any of the above 3 options above would mean my expectations are high.

The internet can be incredible , as a kid i dreamed of being a movie special effects artist but growing up in the midlands in the UK that seemed and proved impossible for me to achieve so i gave up on that as a career and became a saddle maker , then after watching these videos i googled Gary because his accent just seemed very familiar and it turns out he grew up less than 5 miles from the village i grew up in and is only a few year older than me , god i'd love to sit down and have a pint and a chat with him if he ever goes back to visit home

Great series of videos. Great to hear someone "speaking as a writer" hahaha seriously great fun and insightful. Big (ger) budget I would give the shout to Andy muscheti Keeping down and dirty 100%give it to the two guys who directed the void film. Which obviously had large swathes of hellraiser anyway. And they created a great mythos with the lovecraftian nightmare but give them the keys to the hellraiser kingdom and it could get very interesting

As much as I'd like to tear into Gary J. Tunnicliffe, I wont deny that if it were given to me I'd of done the HellRaiser Movie(s) "Judgement" or "Revelations" I would really have angled the story and taken it in a different direction. The Hell Raiser mythos had two great movies and most people have a guilty pleasure in one of the other eight like the in space one or the Romania cult. But most of the movies were not able to capture the magic of the first. So I think his position is not an easy one. In the comics and novel there are things you can get to have that aren't possible in the movies. As far as Diaries of Gille De Rais or Bolingbrook or the Harry D'Armour leading Hell's Armies from those ideas and film it; This would be awesome in movies, I just don't see that happening. The thing that sort of irks me in the last movie is there seemed to be just gross out stuff. I think there are too many remakes though.

Ben Wheatley I think would be amazing for hellraiser, if you look at the visual creepiness along with the disturbing unsettling horror and dark humour in his earlier films. he would be a perfect fit for an interesting new take on the franchise. His past couple of films have been slight departures from that, but it seems to me like he would be the type of guy to go back to his more nasty cult-type filmmaking without hesitation.

Hellraiser reboot dream directors: Oz Perkins - Really awesome up and coming horror director who has a great visual style and can seemingly stretch tiny budgets much further than many other people. Greg Araki (especially if you want to play up the gay/S&M elements of the franchise which have been lost a bit over the years) Rodrigo Gudino Tarsem Singh (imagine that dude's vision of Hell, holy shit) Craig William McNeill (after seeing the first season of Channel Zero, for sure) There's a bunch of others. They should definitely get somebody lesser known but with a good visual style.

Alexander aja is one of my top picks for director along with(mr.h's) comment on Guillermo del Toro but, as for a final answer ? I don't know. .I'm half decided on it. Paul w.s. Anderson (to me) was the only one who has gotten close to making a hellraiser like movie with event horizon and that movie has a love hate relationship being that when I first saw the film, I didn't like it but now I have more appreciation for it.

I’m surprised no one has considered that Clive’s remake script was probably written that way on purpose. To what purpose is the question. Maybe it is the way it is because he wasn’t interested in it, or maybe it is the way it is so less would be cut. Sometimes writers/directors go overboard with the intention of getting more past the ratings board.

I just watched Hellraiser Judgment. There were a lot of things that I enjoyed. I did not care for the crazy veteran plot device at all. I thought that making a veteran a serial killer was pretty weak. There were a great many more things to enjoy about the movie though. The creature design was great, Pinhead was really well portrayed, and I enjoyed the idea of the cenobites having to change their ways. All in all, the Hellraiser elements were very well handled, but the PTSD elements and law enforcement details were handled piss poorly. I liked the horror bits, but the real world bits were awful.

I rather there be no remake. I want a judgment follow up! Or a direct sequel to hellbound. Ignoring everything past it. That would be the only way that I’d wanna see Doug Bradley in it again. And if not I’ll take more of Paul T. Taylor! Honestly I’m a little depressed we may never see him in the role again.

I don't really care much for a remake / reboot of Hellraiser. Remakes / reboots is the default for Hollywood these days primarily because it's risky doing something new and doing something new requires some inspiration and imagination (neither of which Hollywood possesses anymore) . I'm curious to see what would happen if Gary J Tunnicliffe got another chance to helm a Hellraiser movie. While I can see the issues other people in the audience had with Judgment, I don't think it was as terrible as people thought. Where the franchise went wrong following Hellraiser 2 is that they lost sight of the nature of the Lament Configuration and the Cenobites. Hollywood tried to turn Pinhead into a typical horror movie icon like Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, or Leatherface which was fucking stupid. I really wish anybody (Gary Tunnicliffe, for example) who gets a bite at the apple in the future would take a look at The Hellbound Heart and the first two movies and keep them close in mind. As for remakes / reboots, give me a break. Take Dune, for example. I know there are legions of people who whine and complain about David Lynch's movie (not to mention the Sci-Fi Channel mini-series) but as far as I'm concerned Lynch did a good adaptation of the book ("Fuck you!" to the people bitching about the weirding modules, by the way) . Furthermore, Lynch proved that a movie version of Dune could be done. Now everybody's worshipping at the altar of Villeneuve who directed Blade Runner 2049 (cool movie) because it's rumored he's going to helm a two movie adaptation of Dune. Villeneuve's got the chops to pull it off, but big fucking deal. It's been done before. Why doesn't somebody do something really impressive like adapt God Emperor of Dune (and "Fuck you!" to the people saying there's no audience for it [because I don't give a shit] ) ? And while they're at it why doesn't somebody just make a Hellraiser sequel that's worth a damn? I really don't think it's impossible.

U can't really have hell without heaven and so on. I don't think one without the other works. Are they demons? (The cenebits). In the 1st film pinhead says "we are demons to some angels to others". I get the sadomasochist theme and I like it, the pain/pleasure angel. Are the cenebits from hell? He is called the hell priest! What's good is that it can be what u want it too be that's why the film's are good. :)

I never understand why people get vicious about what's in movies (so long as the producers aren't actively insulting you.) I saw the latest Hellraiser. It ok, not my favorite and I feel like it could have had a little more punch in it. But it's not like it was made with hatred towards the fans, or like it was poorly made. It's just a movie with some artistic choices made. Personally I liked seeing heaven come down and interfer with things. I thought that was fun. And that the assessor was an interesting idea.

Personally, I thought there were many good points about judgement, I'd like Gary to continue with a bit more cash. Keep it lowish budget and make an uncompromising film - make something not many people would want to watch. If big budget, Gary recommended Hereditary - which is incredible, so Ari Aster would be my pick for someone else who might actually understand the subject matter.

Takashi Shimizu would be perfect. He directed Ju-On, Ju-On 2, Reincarnation, and several other J-Horror movies. He even directed the American adaptations of The Grudge and The Grudge 2. He understands subtle horror, which is really what we need for Hellraiser. Subtle horror that is reliant on tone and atmosphere, not jump scares and effects. Since he doesn't rely on jump scares it makes them more powerful when he actually uses them. I also insist that any any Hellraiser movie by a hard R. It won't work if it isn't an R rated movie.

Gary seems like a great guy, he loves the hellraiser franchise but to be honest he just doesn't "get it". His movie, budget aside and given full freedom (given his first interview with H) still wouldn't be what the first two were. And although i rather he make them than the others i dont think he will ever make one as good. The core of what hellraiser is gary cant emulate, we need Clive barker! Atmosphere, psychological horror and suspense needs an artists hand.

I think Gary entirely gets it. Give him time and a budget and I think you'd get a very strong point of view. Clive lost me entirely with scarlet gospels, after such expectation, I've never been so disappointed. Then to listen to Clive's treatment - it wasn't good enough. Love Clive, but if his interest has moved on in the last 30 years, then so be it.
