Just do Wednesday podcasts/gaming couch play hangouts. You’re like our childhood brought back to us as adults. And even alone, the two of you have such great chemistry talking about melee or stuff besides melee. I love your perspectives on other video games, anime, and even just hearing about your lives. Congrats on getting married, Toph!
As someone who has followed you guys since early scar and toph show days, I really enjoy when these types of episodes come out. Just having you two in front of a mic talking about anything is phenomenal content that I'd like to see more of.
dude yes. The hole that gooteks and miguel ross left behind would be easily filled by scar and toph playing sf or any other fighting game imo. I know filling shoes is anxiety inducing but i think they would forge their own path which i would fucking love.
I've been enjoying Reads in the Streets more than their Melee content as of late. Fills the void left by Excellent Adventures. And we still get to see Mike Ross doing stuff with Versus Vortex that is entertaining as hell.
I would love, love, love a series of with you guys watching through historic melee top 8s and sharing stories, doing some analysis, or talking about what it meant for the narrative. Something similar to what was done during 5 Days of Melee.
god I love scar and toph in the same room for any length of time talking about anything. amazing voices and personalities on the mic with amazing chemistry.
The intersection of melee and philosophy/metaphysics is my favorite part of what you guys do. I also think you guys are in a great position to discuss anime or shows. Wouldn’t have watched ping pong without you guys
I really just like hearing you guys talk :) games are cool and I definitely came for the melee in the beginning but I stayed for the introspective conversations you have amongst yourselves or with guests. It's a good reminder we're all humans trying to get through life at the end of the day. Love watching regardless of what it is you guys put out!
You guys became a commentary duo because how well you guys can go on for hours about nothing and still be entertaining. I'm primarily a VOD watcher, and hope you guys just find the time to do a scar & toph show-like segment so i can keep hearing you guys talk. Thanks
Some more scar and toph show style content would be amazing! Always enjoyed the deep thinking discussions about philosophy with melee mixed in as well. Very excited to see what you two do in the future!
i love the reads specifically because the dynamic of one person trying to play while the other two pontificate is incredible and unmatched. that said id basically watch anything with yall chilling and talking in it also imagine u get mango to do dnd with yall
I'm a Dungeon Master who does YT Content, loves melee, and hosts a live campaign with my fellow Pokemon friends on YT as well. Shooting my shot. I couldn't get into Baulders gate because I love DMing so much. Writing stories for my players and coming up with new worlds is one of my biggest passions. Even if I'm not the person, I'd love to see it from you all.
Here's an Idea: I would like to have Scar and Toph come out to support a San Francisco local at Abbey Tavern which occurs every Tuesday in the inner Richmond neighborhood at 5th avenue and Geary blvd at 7:30pm and we also have some events on Saturdays sometimes. That would be hype. We've had 51 total weekly events counting the series we ran across the park at Blackthorn tavern earlier in 2023
Would absolutely listen to a weekly podcast with you guys and watch you play through the mgs games and fromsoft titles. You guys have such wonderful insights and chemistry, would love to watch some gameplay of you two on a couch playing some video games
YOOO what is up guys hope all is well! I really appreciate this video watching you guys just talk is super entertaining to me. I love Reads in the Streets actual S tier content IMO. The reads is also great. Also, I love critical role so hell yea watching you guys play DnD would be dope as well albeit from a channel perspective I don't know how it would do statistically but I'd definitely tune in. Terrible times sounds like a fun watch definitely play the FromSoft games. I'm chill either way in terms of live vs prerecorded Scar and Toph show stuff I'm sure mixing it every now and then is fine. Im with Toph you guys should totally play more fighting games! co-streams of events could make for some great commentary content as well. Thanks for the fire content my guys we totally get the struggle so take your time with it. Happy holidays!
I like watching you guys play games especially SF6 lately, but what I really love is when you tell stories or get philosophical. Whatever format you choose, so long as you guys keep talking I'll keep watching
As someone who’s been a fan through my twenties, seeing your friendship grow over the past decade and hearing you two talk has left a big impression on my life So even if it’s not often, I would love more discussion-based content like this. Whatever the content is, thanks for always coming back to us, Scar and Toph ❤
i would literally watch and or listen to any form of content the two of you produce, i like both of your approaches to real life and in game situations. The falco sophie story was really funny
Honestly, I would just love to see you guys take on new challenges and work together to learn and overcome the challenges. I love the reads and reads in the streets, but the arc of you guys learning and climbing the ladder of SF6 was super fun and I watched every episode. You guys could try speed running, lets plays, competitive ladder climbs, I just want to see you guys learn and adapt to hard games and become godlike.... all with great commentary :D
would love a call in segment and a watch through! i would love a return of the scar and toph show, but please dont stop going on ranked! its so fun to watch you guys play
I dig the idea of doing a let’s play together on non-melee games. I feel like that could help anchor the convo and reduce the amount of classic S&T tangents
Would love to see you goys do a patreon thingy. Weekly show with a guest. 3 part show, gameplay, hang out/talk, live q&a. Upload only gameplay to yt. OR just mix all of the 3 in a live stream and cut half of it for youtube. I'd pay for that, especially if it's as chill as your Toph/Scar & Scar/Toph shows always were. By far the best atmosphere, imo, was your show on season 1 and 2 on yt. That couch hang out setup with office backdrop was gold. Podcasts are waay to clean nowadays. Never feels intimate and cozy. A couch with drinks and the camera a little further away to bring in the room would go a long way to create a hang out vibe imo. Your current setup is good, just not as big. Love you guys, been watching you since 2015 or so. Greetings from germany.
Comments seem to be pretty all over the place, I'd say my top priority is just hearing you guys talk about whatever random stuff enters your heads lol like someone was saying mgs might have too much cutscenes/dialogue so as long as the vibes keep going during that any format is good for me. Happy to see you back at it, keep it up ❤
I think melee regularly with another game/podcast on the side would be fire. Having some kind of goal you guys are going for when playing ranked makes it super fun. Trying to get fat win streaks, improving secondaries, talking about philosophy, stuff like that. A podcast or a separate playthrough would be dope, too. I'd personally like to see you guys play Rivals of Aether online. It's the second best, "Smash" type game that has the most in common with Melee. It would be sick to see you work from the ground up and pick mains 🤞
I think an important aspect of the "not having to do anything" is to teach them that their action or inaction will likely come with consequences, whether those be positive or negative
Big fan of the reads! Would also be down to see you guys play through other games sometimes, also having guests in person or video/voice call would be exciting
I'm a longtime DM and huge fan of you guys. I would be so excited to see you play. Damn, I wish i was in California. Don't settle for an online campaign though. In person is a lot more fun. The logistics of filming it are actually quite complicated though. Toph Bloodborne would also be so fun.
i’ll watch whatever y’all put out. i was cold on reads in the streets at first but it’s grown on me a lot. i’d absolutely love to see y’all go through a from software game, or other games too prefer not live mainly because sometimes streamers seem to assume everyone has chat open and can read it making vods less watchable but i trust you guys to make it good i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, scar and toph content is the only content on the internet that i’ll watch sight unseen
About the spears vs swords thing at around 28:30 , you should look up spear vs knife sparring; The results are shocking. The knife user can parry the spear tip and grab the spear and move in, so it comes down to that one interaction.
Honestly, listening to The READS has been a genuine pleasure and a privilege. As a longtime audience member, I would like to see the games that I play of course (Melee, SF6 -- been playing a bunch btw, Juri and Ryu and Ken are loads of fun -- and whatever other games) but ultimately I think that so long as The Reads has a future I will be happy.
I would LOVE to see a MGS playthrough on The Reads! I think doing playthroughs of games you guys find fun would be awesome! Playing some new stuff, or even something old. I would love to see y'all play through F-Zero GX's story mode!
would be great to see some classic games get resurrected like reads in the streets (of yesterday). a guest could bring in a game from their childhood etc. might be logistically tough but it sounds fire to me
I'd love a Scar and Toph show to start the year. Melee been through it rough this year, would feel cool to have a Scar and Toph show to give some of that ferver we're lacking rn ❤️
I think both are you are amazing at bridging the melee scene with FGC. I'm still very new to fighting games along with probably much more melee enjoyers and would love to see what it takes to be at the heart of both great sides of the fighting game coin (especially any stories of FGC and melee players)
I'll gladly take anything from y'all but I would LOVE a recurring series going through the history of the game both as a meta and as a subculture. Obviously there's no shortage of that stuff out there but I think y'all's special sauce is uniquely suited for it.
Sekiro would be awesome because I've been meaning to play it too. podcast style chats with guests would be really cool. keeping things loose and switching it up all the time would be great
Scar and Toph show (podcast) format can be great, I feel like it's better suited to talking to guests and you can work in playing some melee at the end like classic S&T or 4 stocks each 2v1 against guest if a pro. The best part of the show is when you guys share your deliberations and perspectives on life imo; I think the show should take inspiration from a show like Nightcap, start with melee topics and like you've always done offer genuine critique or ideas and make connections with real life maybe have a livestream after tournaments for viewers to come in and talk about the best sets, 'hot takes', and pull comments from the audience on live. Best of luck to both of you guys, you got this!
Obviously you two have great chemistry and connections, so whatever you do, I think it will be great. The only thing I want is consistency, uploading videos (or doing streams) on a regular schedule.
Dear reads, I really like the reads with guests based on current events, like having Jmook on right after winning his first major was so topical and helped evolve the storylines of the times. Keep doing that!
Personally I fell in love with the Scar and Toph show and had been watching since season 1. It was completely unique in the community and helped spread insight and perspective as well as personal anecdotes that couldn’t be found anywhere else in the community. I’ve probably watched every episode 2-3 times while falling asleep over the years. It especially helped give top players a platform to let their personality show. PPU is one of my favorite players of all time and that wouldn’t be the case if he wasn’t on your show to express himself to an audience. Not to say the reads is bad, but I could find net play content on RU-vid and twitch if I wanted. There was NOTHING like the scar and toph show. And there never will be.
Not sure if this is helpful input, but regardless of if it’s random video games, scar and toph show w/ or w/o callers, or whatever scar and toph related I would happily watch. However, to be a bit more specific I think the melee audience will always show up for melee and I think that the chemistry between you two will have new ways to flourish if you do play throughs of other games. For example, how y’all would relate other games to melee or downtime in a game leading to stories we as the audience haven’t heard. Lastly, I know the logistics of getting guests is a problem in itself, but the idea of getting melee guests to play games that aren’t melee I think could be very interesting.
If you do play on doing more of the other fighting games, I only just got into Under Night In-Birth and Melty Blood, and I heard that Under Night is getting a new installment with rollback netcode pretty soon, so I'd tune into that if you try that out, but really I'll probably tune into most things you two choose to play together, heh. Thanks y'all~
