I still don't understand how you only have 1k subscribers. The best songwriting channel I have found. I've written half a dozen songs in the last 3 months after binging your channels compared to maybe 2 or 3 in the previous couple of years. Keep going! You are very talented.

YES PLEASE!!! Omg! If Imposter Syndrome was a degreed thing, then I would have a doctorate 😂 I’m often told how amazingly talented and creative I am, but my knee-jerk thought is usually something like, “They’re only saying that to be nice/because they care about my feelings”, and it’s so much harder to remember feedback that’s positive than that which is negative. And the negative feedback memories have a much obliging habit of popping up to serve as proof whenever I make the tiniest mistake! I would love it if you could make videos for creatives like myself who can’t seem to get the 🤬 out of our own way and let our creativity flow! It’s really frustrating to get really excited about an idea, only to have my own personal Ms. Negative Nancy in my head, waiting to snuff out the flame before it has a chance to bloom.

@rochelleesser7961 I feel like I know exactly where you are at! It's so frustrating how positive feedback never seems to stick, while the slightest hint negativity can stay with us forever. I would love to make more content on these topics exactly. Thanks for the input!

I’m all for it! You obviously have a talent for teaching others; and it can easily exceed the bounds of song writing / music theory. Expanding the scope of your channel to include the content you mentioned would be truly beneficial to your current and future subscribers. Great idea!

Hi - Roger from the east coast of the US here. Just discovered you. My take - your channel and videos are like songs. They will resonate how they resonate. Keep doing what resonates w you and the audience. I’m a songwriter, who is learning on my singing to be better at expressing melody. Re Patreon- it may sound like an opportunity for monetizing your content but I’m not convinced. The field is so crowded. I think you should make more videos and be active on IG also. That seems to work. B

Congratulations for your courage in stepping out into this fantastic challenge. What you are doing is inspiring and encouraging to so many people. There is no shame in being paid for adding value to others lives. I’ve only just found your channel but I’m going to be hanging around cos I’m loving what you do. Your honesty about your personal challenges are a part of what makes this so appealing- it’s very very real. Thanks and keep going. ❤

Hey Elise, greeting from the other side of the earth, southern Sweden, just found your channel and you are really good. I feel with you about the artistic personality, a curse and a blessing ;) I have now given but was lucky to find a creative office job and now channel my creative urges into my band. Keep up the good work! One idea for a song writing video is when you already have a chord progression for a verse and or a chorus, or a wip mix, what is your tips for writing vocals for that? Some thought about creatives and freelancing my issue was always the selling in to potential clients, I spent to long time before presenting ideas i think and not connecting with these peoples and try to figure out what they might actually need or want. I did product design but this might be a topic for all freelancers.

I’ve loved all of your videos! I hope you keep posting and I’d love to jam with you sometime. As someone who shares you views on “regular jobs”, I have been making my living from music in one way or another for 20 years. It’s not easy (but what is?) but it’s totally doable :)

You have been so supportive of me since the beginning! I really appreciate it. And congrats on being able to make a living out of music for all this time. You're right, it's definitely not easy, but if you can be creative about your income streams, it can be a great option!

This actually is a hard space to create content for. Music Theory doesn't seem to get a lot of traction, because so many other people cover it. I do think monetizing your creativity is a fair topic to touch on, such as how and when to copyright. PROs, Mechanical Licenses, Doing Covers LEGALLY, and getting regular paid work. Those are daunting enough tasks to take on alone, I can image they would be topics that would be relevant for this space.

Leonard Cohen said “I don’t want to work for pay, but I want to be paid for my work.”, which always resonated with me. I’m not criticising a less scripted format, but I would say that scripted content is not inherently less authentic. Talking off the cuff may be more like sitting with friends casually chatting, and a perfectly legitimate approach. By comparison, writing your friends a letter is a much greater, deferential undertaking. Blaise Pascal famously called wrote: I would have written a shorter letter, but I did not have the time. :-) This comment could probably have been shorter… Happy Christmas Elise!

That's a really good point Cameron. I think scripted videos can serve us well, particularly in teaching videos, as sometimes it takes a bit of thought to work out the clearest way to explain something. If I am teaching I will probably still script those parts. I think I'm looking to build more connection with viewers and I think the less scripted / more natural videos are better for that purpose. It's something to I'd like to try anyway! Thanks for your input, and that's a great quote
