I had a dangerous idea for where the future of fiction could go. With the existence of original character roleplay accounts, it's possible that people would be able to mix their fictional stories with reality. What I mean by that is they could make social media accounts entirely in-character with generated models that look like real people taking actual pictures of themselves and posting about their day. The intended method I'm thinking of would be to slowly tell a story through social media posts. It's got plenty of potential to go south with people most likely using it for catfishing or to push their agendas by making it seem like more people share their opinions. There's already a slew of bots and fake social media accounts going around, and this kind of technology would make it even worse unless kept to a controlled environment where it's understood that all the accounts are fictional. Another downside to doing it would be if you wanted to write a mystery or thriller, people could be concerned that the character is a real person in a dangerous situation and, in dire situations, try to get the police or media involved.

Interesting.

Soulbound socialmedia accounts would be a solution to this. The prospering market of bots and fake social media accounts is a symptom of a world where the internet is still in its infancy: we are starting to understand where this is going and need to start implementing fixes to these issues.

It’s wise for authors to note the signposts of things to come. Yours is one of the best channels for authors and it is much appreciated. Thank you for this video.

There are already incidences in the US of banks pulling accounts from bookstores because they don't like the politics of the books on the shelf

This is a useful post to expand how I think about things. I'm not sure I agree with everything but there are some concepts that really have me thinking now.

Translations and helping people find your book sound REALLY helpful!

I’ve translated a little from other languages. A literal translation is easier to get now, but a really good translation is much more time consuming! Also, being able to offer your literary work to people from around the world would be amazing!!!

An interesting look into the future of the book industry. You're so right about social media. Many hoaxes out there, such as fake celebrity deaths.

Very interesting! As someone writing content that happens in the future i love to think about how technology develops and its impact over time

You have a very optimistic view of the future. Right now i dont even think we can even guarantee another 5 more years before a catastrophic Crush of everything, government, financial system, religion, the environment, total civilization failure.
@AuthorLevelUp

Maybe, but maybe not. Nothing is ever guaranteed.

I don't think it will be a collapse of everything. I think it will be a shift towards further monopolizing of everything, where a bunch of rich people end up owning all the land, and everyone else is a renter of nearly everything, where all information is determined by a handful of corporations, that might even drop the surface level 'divisions' of companies they own that are really just branches of the same couple of mega/meta corporations that own a bunch of sub-corporations that only appear on the surface as separate from each other. I think the trend of consolidation of power into an ever shrinking 1% of the 1% owning and controlling more and more. I think jobs and economies and food distribution for us will fail, due to them, but that they will have their own farm-complexes run by either drones or whatever the 21st century version of a serf will be called.

@@Tiyev thats very interesting. i think were heading for something i call perfect doom. Its were everything we depend on will utterly fail us. There will be no hope and no light. Im not sure which domino will fall first but once it starts falling it will all come tumbling down one after another faster and faster.

Tiyev, essentially, you’ve described feudalism. Look up Yano’s Varoufakis and his thoughts on technofeudalism.

I'll be honest; a future where stories and art being generated by A.I feels so horrifying, disgusting and cheap. There's no thought or passion put into them. It also feels terrifying knowing that I don't know how to prepare myself and "expand my bubble" as you said it so well. I'm not good with programming, I've never got into it despite being a nineties kid. I hate that the world has gone down this route. That it's forcing me to take on skills that I can't the life of me comprehend to understand. I just want to write, not live like a potentional fugitive from 1984. And of course that China is in the middle of all this.

The world could go down a different path. The future is never guaranteed, but it always pays to look forward and try to prepare as best you can. There will always be curveballs though.

Thanks for this. What do you think we'll need to know coding for? I kind of had that thought in the future, not just for writing, just to be up to date and not be left behind like a wheelwright, so to speak.
@AuthorLevelUp

Smart contracts mostly, but also new technologies like AI and the metaverse will require at least an understanding of basic programming. I think the future will be more technical.

i am horrifed of what can happen to art. i have a lot of ideas but all of them can be replaced by ai. i don't like all of that technology stuff like programing and now i just cant imagine if i will ever have work without knowing how to make your own program. i am just a teenager, i might die of natural disaster or not have a job i want and can do.

The writer of the future is going to be a William S Burroughs -esque cut-up artist utilizing AI generated manuscripts as raw material.
