I hope they introduce "Face Only" AF (like on fx6 and fx9). When the subject leaves the frame, focus remains where it was last focused on the subject's face and does not lock to the background of the frame.
Not too bothered by the shutter angle as ive never had it to miss it, but its nice to see the investment in supporting existing customers and not just looking for new ones. Love my FX30 both for videos and i surprised myself that its a great photo camera too.
Eh. If you weren’t already sold on what the fx3/30 could do before these updates, then I can’t see these pushing anyone over the hill to finally buy either. They’re great right now, will get slightly better in September.
Most films are shot at 24fps and not 59.95 or 120fps. So 180 degree rule always applied to 24fps. 180 degree shutter angle is a given because cine Dp's don't use shutter angle.
I was hoping to hear "March", or something like that.... But, oh man! January announcement for... September? :)) You know what? I'm still hoping for sooner... much sooner. Not sure if that's something which is likely to happen, I have no past experience regarding this, but just hoping.
Waiting nine months for a firmware update seems.... excessive? Why announce it now? Agreed that it's good to finally see shutter angle (why no 1.5x anamorphic in the FX3 and FX30 though - seems so easy to do and would make my Nanomorph lenses a good fit). I don't know, it seems like they're not telling us something. Like maybe there IS a MkII camera coming and this helps clear the existing stock quicker? Thanks as always for the succinct information!
Hello Mark. I know that this might not be the appropriate place to ask this question but I’ll ask it anyways😅. So I have a Song zve10 and I want the photos to have a time/date stamp on them but I think the camera doesnt have that option/setting so I was wondering if I just couldn’t find it, or sony removed it from the settings. Thank you in advance if you see this.
Not sure if it’s possible, but if you have a spare light maybe you can hit your background sign with a spotlight. I can’t ever seem to make it out. Unless that’s the idea. I know it’s background and meant to be blurred but it doesn’t seem very legible at all due to the colors being so similar.
Dear Mark Bennett, please, advise. I have sony a7m4 and Sony 20mm lens. I wanted to use this lens with clear image zoom to cover multiple focal lenths in video , BUT when I use clear image zoom, tap to focus screen feature stops working. Is there a fix to that (except switching to crop mode)?
@Sony _ Please add similar update to the Sony α7Siii also. The two key updates needed are scopes and shutter angle like in the FX3 which is a similar camera
Finally in 2024 a sony „cinema camera“ has features my gh5 has since 2017😂. Now lets wait another 7 years.. maybe then sony gets open gate which my gh5 has since 2017 as well🤓🤓🤓🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂
Shutter angle doesn't do what you think it does. You still have to change the 180 degree shutter angle when doing slo motion. It does not automatically adjust like you think it does.

I would love to know what you would replace or not in this list. Main Cam: A7IV + Sony 24-70 2.8 GM Sub Cam: ZV-E10 + Sigma 16mm 1.4 & 18-50 2.8 Action Cam: DJI Action 3 Other Cam: Sony FDR-AX45A (I never use) Mic: Rode Wireless Pro Tripod: Cheap one on Amazon Drone : Dji mavic 3 I am very happy with my current set, but since I have been given a ticket for a full reset, what would be your take ? My main problem in my current set is that I can't shoot 4k120p and I want it. In summer, the conditions are extreme. Some salt water can also splash around at any time. Is the FX-3 the only answer ? What about the sub cam ? switch the A7IV as sub ? or buy a new one for better AI features ? Lenses : I would sell the 2470GM and buy the GM2 for some macro shots and major weight loss. And why not a 24 1.4GM for low light scenarios. (Any idea on a telephoto lens for fish bite scenes ?) Action Cam: The action 3 is not sharp at all I think about switching to Gopro. Too kind!! With an unlimited budget, I would definitely get the FX3 - that fan, the video features, the 4k120, the image - you'll be very happy with it. I would use the a7iv as the B-Cam. I would get the 24-70GM II like you want to do and probably the 70-200 GM II as well for telephoto when using APS-C crop mode on the a7iv - you'll get a 350mm equivalent, if you want even more reach. The 24mm 1.4 is amazing and my favourite lens overall and combined with the FX3 12,800 dual native ISO you'll be able to see in the dark. The Ulanzi tripod is great - so compact and light. The Action 4 GoPro 12 or the Insta360 ACE are all good - you'll be happy with either (but the Insta360 doesn't focus close - so not great for vlogging). There all super sharp and have great stabilization. I use the DJI because I can use their mic and connect it to bluetooth so I don't have to sync in post.
@@CO8848_2 ofcourse they wouldn't, firmware update cannot change the hardware requirements to get anything done. Software won't update hardware capabilities.
As an FX30 user I have to give a big homer Simpson Woo Hoo to Sony for finally adding shutter angle. The creator app on the other hand gets a big DOH, I wish Sony would just give us an OBS plugin and not required us to use a 2nd app like they have been doing. 🍻
you think it is good to have shutter angle in slow mo ? I think the highest the shutter speed the better for slowmo , who want to see something moving slow with motion blur ?, I think really bad , I also think it is bad and unnecessary in 30fps too unless you are filimg a car driving ,
I have that same lens coffee mug! The only pain is that these updates aren't coming until September. It's torture. I agree with @arsasylum that Sony bring Face Only to the FX30 so people can walk in and out of frame without the lens racking focus to the background.
*I'm not getting rid of my FX30 ever. These updates are nice but shutter angle is nice but I've never had a reason to complain about this as I leave it always on the same shutter speed*
I have been doing a lot of research on which camera to buy and already settled on the fx30 due to it's versatility and value as a video camera, but I was aware of the lack of shutter angle and did wish it was there. Now that it's going to be added, it just reinforces my decision to go with the FX30.
Nice to see update for items that should be added in software. I prefer that over having to buy a new camera. Hopefully competition leads to more software functionality.

If you’re in a PAL region, you’re shutterspeed should be 1/200 if using 100fps. But you can still have banding if you’re using certain fluorescent lights.
I wish they'd release a major update to the ZV-1F, i love the camera and i still think it has cinematic potential but there are a lot of limitations sony built into it like being limited to 8-bit, you can only do so much with 8-bit with S-Log
Complaint #1. Shutter Angle is a welcome feature and should be available on all Sony cameras. Complaint #2. Why does it take 7 months to have this feature added?
That is exciting. Been using the FX3 for some of our shoots for the past year. It is true that once you use shutter angle, it is difficult to go back. However, I do prefer the colour science of the BlackMagics which is what we use mostly.
Also A6700 but with the ultimate autofocus masterpiece and bionz xr processor… put ulanzi fan if you need and you have a true beast.. for photo and video…
September isn’t remotely near “NOW”, I get that you want the view but there’s “click baiting” and there’s “How to make fan of the channel 🤬 mad”. I almost rage quit…
