In the first 10 minutes I provide 5 Campaign/Battle Maps which are directly related to the events in Book 1 (58 B.C.). However they are in no specific order.
The Gallic Wars: Book 1 of 8
Despriptions of Gaul - First Operations Against the Helvetii - 00:00
End of the Campaign Against the Helvetii - 22:14
Ariovistus: Preliminary Moves - 46:00
The Defeat of Ariovistus - 68:02
Suetonius in his biography of Julius Caesar states that the Gallic and Civil Wars were written by Caesar, and that the 8th book of the Gallic Wars was written by (Aulus) Hirtius. Suetonius also indicates that either Caesar's friend Oppius, or Hirtius likely wrote about the Alexandrian, African and Spanish wars, but that their authorship was not certain. Also, the accounts of the army during the Spanish campaign show a more brutal side to his leadership.
--The text transcribing was done with an attempt to duplicate the original published print, except for a correction of a few printing errors. No attempt was made to update the spelling to that of more modern American English. Suspected spelling errors in names and places were retained, since there was no way to insure which was more correct.
(The Gallic Wars, and The Civil Wars). Based on viewer response the Alexandrian, Spanish, and North African Campaign's maybe uploaded.

Who is this reader? I am struggling to buy THIS recording because the voice has the Gravitas suited to the material. The other readers simply come up short, no better than so many middle-school students in the central office reading the morning announcements. Likewise, having heard Ian Richardson read "The Prince," there is now no substitute.

I prefer this reading so far despite the narrator Griffin being a real talent. By any chance will the rest of this recording upload? Thank you so much for uploading this. Charlton Griffith who narrates this is among the greatest narrators ever. Maybe it's Griffin ? I can't recall at this time. At any rate he brings the man Gaius Julius Caesar alive as well as these conflicts. I'm torn between admiring Caesar to the point of actually liking him and the deeds he pulled off that were at times beyond the pale. Nonetheless, I've been influenced by this work and the great HBO series ROME in a way that had me hating Caesars enemies. Charlton narrates numerous historical audiobooks. Always perfectly in my opinion. I've heard his narrative talents on both Alexander the Great and Augustus Caesar. 100% fantastico !!!
