there is a funny story about Gallipoli. because the trenches were so close, the Australian and Turkish soldiers got to know each other. at one point the Turks threw cartons of cigarettes into the Australian trenches. the Australian soldiers responded by throwing tins of corned beef into the Turkish trenches. the Turks opened one tin, tried it, and threw the rest back to the Australians. regifting in WWI

A Turkish artilleryman lifts a 258 kilogram shell singlehanded for loading in a cannon. Corporal Seyit (Seyit Onbasi) is famous for having carried three 275 kg shells to an artillery gun during the Allied attempt to force the Dardanelles on 18 March 1915. Born in a the village of Havran, he enlisted into the army in April 1909. After serving in the Balkan Wars of 1912-1913 he was transferred to the forts defending the Mediterranean entrance to the Dardanelles. Following the heavy naval bombardment of the forts guarding the Narrows on 18 March 1915, the gun he was serving in the Mecidiye fort remained operational but its shell crane had been damaged. Seyit carried three 275 kg artillery shells up to the gun enabling it to continue firing on the attacking Allied fleet. One of the shells reputedly hit the British pre-dreadnought HMS Ocean, although the ship was sunk by a mine laid by the minelayer Nusret. Following the repulse of the naval assault, Seyid was promoted to corporal and publicised as an iconic Turkish hero. He was discharged in 1918 and became a forester and later coal-miner. He took the surname Çabuk in 1934 with the passing of the Surname Law.

I am a Turk who lived in Australia for 10 months. This always was a sensitive topic between me and the Aussies. It was so interesting to see how eager they are to talk about Gallipoli and I was asked countless times how we Turks feel about it. I always told them we defended our country and we would've done the same against whoever it was, and so would they. I don't believe we were enemies, I don't think most Turks and Aussies even had any idea about each other back those times considering how enormous the distance between each other was. Many Aussies said this battle should have never happened. I was thinking the same, but I think differently now because this was not an ordinary battle, it was actually what brought us closer. This battle has not only created a friendship and respect between us, but also has such an important effect on me living in a modern Turkey today. As humanity, we learned a lesson and once again realized that how terrible the war is and what it means to be an human being. I am really hoping this damn pandemic ends so that Turks, Australians and New Zealanders can meet again in Anzac days to freshen our respect and friendship which I hope will last forever.

If you check out the records in NSW government I think. Killed in Gallipoloi 8,000 Anzacs. Killed on western front 54,000. I'm not absolutely sure of these figures but according to Churchill the policy had become a bataille d usure or wearing down. So 1 German Killed for 2-3 allied the Germans would eventually run out of men and so the war would be won. When we consider massive full frontal essentially suicidal attacks during WW1 this is pretty clear. But the most horrifying factor to me is that on news of lots of dead profits made on currency falls. This was stopped 1940 by FDR by FDR Churchill and the allies. There was a world economic peace treaty promised to the troops 3weeks after D day for stabilisation of world currencies as a foundation for a lasting peace and this ratified by all major world leaders and pariaments except Hitler and Stalin... Unfortunately 1971 it was temporarily suspended by Nixon... And pandoras box again opened. Nixon lied about closing the door to international currency speculation but gave s good description of international currency speculation. "And who are the gainers not the working man not the investor not the real creators of wealth but the gainers the international currency speculators who thrive on crises and by doing so help to create them. " Crises being war pandemic hyperinflation terrorism forest fires etc Sell on the fall buy on the rise. I suggest discussion of Bretton Woods promised to the troops 3weeks after D day for stabilisation of world currencies as a foundation for a lasting peace at Dachau kept as a memorial thanks to German Democracy to prevent poverty causing fascism causing holocaust causing ww3 and prevent innocent people and migrants being blamed again by generalisation against race religions disability etc including children. The effects of declaration of all currency movements for production not speculation should reduce currency speculation by $6,700 for 1BN people each In a day but it will increase eco friendly technology revolution and attract $7000,000 for 1bn people each back into ecofriendly technology revolution not speculation on currencies saying perhaps too many people risking thermonuclear ww3 ,catastrophic global warming pandemic... It ie essentially people and nations cooperation in the UN versus nationalism and government run by the influence of international currency speculation in tax havens making cash on trouble in and between Nations. Is it not insane that some idiot might start a fire in Australia or Turkey because they hope to benefit their forex and crypto trading??? Bonkers!! And look what forex does goes around the world bankrupting countries causing mass migration and poverty and crypto selling migrants with no papers on the dark Web for body parts people trafficking and terrorism that Farage sells And Trump has just announced a weapon that can destroy everything. So that puts thermonuclear ww into 2nd place on the destruction stakes. Never before in all time has international cooperation in the UN been more important..

@Caratacus britain's pacific franchise (TM) is a real cute way of describing colonization of the world to mine its resources; but it cuts right to the point of why you wouldn't see what it's about when the UK sent Aussies to their deaths as part of a grand campaign to invade and carve up the Middle East. Hint: it's so some industrialists could clear their way into carving up the Ottoman territory and steal oil from the natives; basically, for the sake of BP, to give a mere 30% of the proceeds to a puppet installed. That's what they did in Iran, like reading from a script. Meanwhile the British working class, Austrian working class and others get literally nothing from any of this. Just got called racist for opposing that those same elite want to import global empire labor because it wasn't enough just to outsource all of those UK jobs to global empire labor. This is the patriotism you fight for. Seriously take off your blinders.
@larryhats4320

@Caratacus Ottomans did a lot less towards destroying the modern world than the UK ever did; funny how everyone always gets accused of genocide and world domination by the party doing genocide and world domination over and over and over again. And funny how the latter's wars against the former always seem to coincide with its claims. And no; my critique has nothing to do with the British/Australian working class. This is about the UK state/its predecessors. The British/Australian working class just happen to buy the state propaganda, tow the state line and bleed, every time, for the merchants who they let control them.

In 1985 the beach the Anzacs landed at was renamed to Anzac Cove while the channel leading into Princess Harbour where the Australian forces had left for Gallipoli was renamed Atatürk Channel and a statue was erected to overlook it. Mustafa Kamal Atatürk is also the only enemy commander to have a memorial on Anzac Parade in Canberra, Australia's capital city, which lies across the road from the Australian War Memorial.

My great great great grandfather was apart of the ANZAC's, in his diary he admitted that the Turkish had a right to defend their country and families. I personally agree with what he says as the ANZAC'S were foreigner's threatening their home. I respect both sides in the Gallipoli campaign as they both fought bravely for what they believed in.

The anzacs also invented the “drip rifle” in this campaign, it was a system where a rifles trigger was attached to a sting and a tin can, and above the can was a tin of water that slowly dripped water into the first tin, over time the weight of the water would fire the rifle, this was made leading up to the evacuation to make it seem like the anzac soldiers were still in their trenches but really they had evacuated, the Turks didn’t realise for days

Ataturk’s Letter to Anzac Mothers - 1934 "Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side now here in this country of ours... you, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land. They have become our sons as well."

Korkma, sönmez bu şafaklarda yüzen al sancak; Sönmeden yurdumun üstünde tüten en son ocak. O benim milletimin yıldızıdır, parlayacak; O benimdir, o benim milletimindir ancak. Çatma, kurban olayım, çehreni ey nazlı hilal! Kahraman ırkıma bir gül! Ne bu şiddet, bu celal? Sana olmaz dökülen kanlarımız sonra helal... Hakkıdır, hakk'a tapan, milletimin istiklal! Ebediyen sana yok, ırkıma yok izmihlal: Hakkıdır, hür yaşamış, bayrağımın hürriyet; Hakkıdır, hakk'a tapan, milletimin istiklal!

Superdude70 Market Garden failed because the American 82nd Airborne failed to take the Nijmegen bridge. Gavin wasted time securing his DZ and scouting the Reichswald which resulted in him failing to take the bridge for 36 hours. This allowed the Germans to reinforce the bridge and the town. When XXX Corp turned up they were forced to fight through to the Bridge. The Americans failed to deliver. You I suspect watched the movie and drunk the cool aid.

@Superdude70 Commenter is referring to the allies raid on Dieppe in 1942. Not actually an invasion as Der Alman'ach states, but was a raid/test run against a fortified town on the Channel Coast. The significant losses for the allies helped shape the decision to land against less fortified positions in Normandy.
