As someone who finished an undergraduate thesis a year ago Atrioc's story hit my soul. You need somebody who can keep you honest and straight, and having somebody make me supply a deliverable every week was vital for its completion. Sure, there would be weeks where I only did a paragraph, but it meant that on average I actually did a lot of work. Please if you do an undergraduate thesis get a professor that will constantly check up and be actively engaged in the process (without overwriting your voice). But hell yeah proud of you for seeing it through and finishing it out. Props to anyone who is doing or has done a thesis.

Finished my undergraduate thesis last year. Almost didn't graduate since I ghosted my advisor. Thankfully, she didn't give up on us (I had a couple of groupmates that also don't respond) and kept pestering us to finish it. Finally snapped and crammed the shit out of it in a week. Turned I didn't need groupmates and just finished it almost all by myself. I had to give them work so they won't fail. My procrastination almost made a group of students not graduate on time. Learned my lesson that time.

honestly i dont get how that is supposed to help people who got back pain from laying in bed too much. i think the main way to avoid back pain is to build a strong core and doing regular exercise and stretching. not like im doing that but just in theory
@LoveOlsson98
@LoveOlsson98 7 месяцев назад
@@Otzkarthere's also different kinds of back pains. The most common one (I think) comes from your muscles around your lower back not being in good enough shape so they can't consistently hold up your back perfectly in all positions. So when the body feels the back starting to "slip", not actually slipping but you get the vibe, it panics and tenses them like crazy. That's what hurts. Luckily it's relatively easy to avoid by staying in shape so your body won't have to panic like that, basically 100% solving the issue. It also doesn't give any permanent damage, so don't feel like it's too late if you start getting these kinds of pain. Though probably talk with some professional about it so you know what kinda exercise is going to work without being too dangerous and risking leading into the next point. You can also get back pains from your nerves physically getting pinched by your spine and that is a lot harder to fix. You'll often need some surgery and that's still not guaranteed. My grandma has had this kinda pain for more than half her life and it's never been 100% fixed, even with surgeries. My sister also got it in her early twenties but it seems like the surgery she got luckily fixed it. Though I'm in no way educated in this. Just got family with some of these issues and a mother who is very educated in it and tries to get me to work out more. So don't take this blindly as true.

Exact same here. Especially the 48h of cramming and straight into a week of not doing anything productive part. It's like I've spent up some video game stamina meter entirely and need to wait for it to recharge to 100% again before I can do anything. Having two assignments that needs to be done close to eachother always means one of them won't get done.

The moving around so much while sitting probably saved atriocs back. It's the staying still in one posture for hours that breaks you. Holy shit, I struggled enough getting through all-nighters for coursework or single exams. This sounds like absolute torture I can 100% see myself getting into this situation back in uni if I had had to do a thesis - but I didn't have nearly this level of grustle in me. I would probably have managed to do like 50% of it in those last few days, and then had a full mental breakdown

I studied film at uni, and in my third year I needed to put together a portfolio document detailing the process of directing a short film I was submitting for my final. This was the kind of thing that I was meant to be working on throughout the year. I bumped into my lecturer on a Friday and asked him if we had anything due soon. He said, yes, your portfolio piece on Monday... I pulled 3 back to back all nighters working on this dissertation level portfolio. I wrote 17,000 words in 3 days with additional storyboarding and annotations. The 3 day slog almost killed me, but I ended up getting the highest grade in the class...

idk how to channel the energy properly its always doing 12 week assignments in 12 hours, I can't even imagine how people can be actively working on something over the entire 12 weeks, literally cant comprehend it.
@Pyxyty
@Pyxyty 7 месяцев назад
Person here that works like that, it's just small progress over short periods of time. Much easier to work on something when you're not stressing over a deadline. It's not like I'm working with the same intensity but for way longer. Also, for things like theses or essays, ive been both a "12 week" person and a "12 hour"/procrastinating crammer person. The biggest difference? When im not cramming, i find i often give much more time to the structure and framework of what i need to do. I figure out ahead of time how i approach the work im doing and the steps i need to take. It's waaay easier to do work like that when you have a blueprint to follow. Meanwhlle, when cramming, you kinda just have to go for it and improvise on the way, and since you dont have time to fully think it through, you'll constantly find yourself filling gaps you realize you have or having much more filler than you'd like
@bloodwolf2609
@bloodwolf2609 7 месяцев назад
@@Pyxyty well its not like I dont realise all of this but the mentality is more like, why would I spend 12 weeks doing this when I can do it in 12 hours for a minimally worse result? or imagine if you could cram the same 12 hours of work like once a week for all 12 weeks you do like 12 assignments worth of work would be crazy. It just never happens its a really strange phenomenon to know that so many people cram stuff the day before.

I think I didn't sleep for 3 days when I had to present my final thesis, literally just fucking hunched over a laptop drinking out of 2 liter mountain dew bottles while typing up a fucking deranged novel in German and then hours before hand throwing some bullet points onto a powerpoint and then having to go out and chat absolute shit in a foreign language for half an hour completely unpracticed. Somehow I recall I didn't even finish the essay and the last 2 pages I frantically typed in English and hoped I'd have a chance to go back and translate them before I needed to hand it in. I’ve been told by several people that they genuinely do not understand how I graduated our equivalent of high school. I had like an 80% absence in written assignments for year 2 and 3, and like half my oral exams I turned in half-finished and bullshitted my way through. The biggest one that no-one understood was me turning in 2 pages for something that was supposed to be at least 18, and walking away with a passing grade. When I was at the actual oral part of it, they told be they would’ve have given me the equivalent of like F-, but my oral defence was good enough that it bumped me up to passing. This is not a universal experience *at all*, but it just worked out for me. Even managed to walk away with the equivalent of A+ on my last exam because it was oral English, and the expectations/requirements for that are/were way below my level of fluency.
