I'd say it did clash, but that clash just perfectly added to the whole surreal vibe of the game. Darling's videos were probably my favorite part of the whole thing.
Aaron Walton I loved his videos so much. Kinda sad the one time he talks to Jessie like the previous director did isn't included in the media section though
Like, think about how much effort he put into Dylan before the bodies started adding up. And the guilt and remorse wouldn’t be there if he had no ethics/morals.
Most deaths he caused were unfortunate parts of his job. If they didn't die then surely innocent people outside the bureau would. When Dylan started killing people it tore Darling apart because he felt empathy for Dylan but he was still a killer
I could watch a whole movie of just Dr. Casper Darling. Like an artsy short film on him working his way up to head researcher, or just his orignal contact with the FBC, because so much of his character is defined by his position it would be interesting to see the two grow together. Alright I need a Darling spin off game and short film and I will be happy forever.
Most of these characters deserve a short. I want to see Langston and his cat, Arish's werewolf story, dr. Darling doing anything at all and, of course, Ahti traversing the multiverse fixing various "messes" while singing more songs as he goes. I love all of the characters so much and they each add a lot to the game. I especially like how Ahti is just the local god. He doesn't even need an HRA because he's not even human
I loved exploring his office in Central Executive. There isn't a mission that requires you to go there I don't think which is weird because it may pass you by.
His performance was exceptional. At first i thought those live action segments are going to be cheesy and cringy as hell. But I was amazed as to how well they were executed. They were properly directed, acted and most of all the props felt absolutely natural and convincing. Very well done Remedy. Hats off.
Daniel Ryslink the game play was way better than sekiro. I played all the game of the year contenders. This was a better action game than dmc as well. Not often you get a world filled with completely destructible environments.
It may not be a game _about_ Dr. Darling, but it's definitely a game _because_ of Dr. Darling. Removing Porretta's performance, Control would be a dour, bleak, probably tedious journey through misery and despair. Darling is a reminder that even in the dark, sinister, upper chambers of power in the FBC, there's humanity, and hope, and even a little childlike glee.
Dr Casper Darling.....one of the highlights of this game. I always looked forward to finding his next video, until eventually I realised.....I have a major crush on this guy. Actually that could have started when I saw the video of him half naked 😂😍😅
Every time Dr. Darling would appear my wife would stop what she was doing and pay attention because he was so interesting. His character was key to the game...and you never see in it except through videos. Really clever stuff.
He was probably my favorite character, but saying he stole the show does a disservice to Jesse, Trench, Ahti, and the whole rest of the game. It’s all so good.
@@Arkatox no i'd say he stole the show allright, such a fun character. But the actress of Jesse did so in quantum break after she traveled through time.
He really is an incredible actor. I mean that's their job but out of the things I've seen him in (Control, Alan Wake), he really shows his range. Dr Darling is so completely different from Alan it's wild lol. I also didn't even realize at first it was the same actor. So yeah, dude is really underrated and I really like him.
Ever since Alan Wake he's been one of my favorite voice actors/performers. Definitely happy to see him nominated ;) P.S. Now that you have the Alan Wake I.P. back, please consider doing Alan Wake 2 someday. American Nightmare was good, but I'm still waiting for that proper sequel ;)
@@mhstrawn5217 Yea it cites/references it and has Alan appear but it's still not a full proper Alan Wake 2, which I still want, and was teased/promised at the end of Alan Wake ;)
@@DeathBringer769 AWE drops a pretty blatant Alan Wake 2 hook at the end, possibly with a crossover with Control. I wouldn't be too surprised if Alan Wake and control had a single game as a joint sequel.
Oh my gosh, he built his portrayal on Richard Feynman!!! I’ve loved Feynman’s science communication for years, no wonder I enjoyed Dr. Casper Darling so much!
Such a charming actor. His performance brought a lot of needed warmth to the game. I really hope for another DLC or even Control 2 but I know the chances are slim.
I think Dr. Darling of all the games I played, is my favorite character you never meet. I think it's amazing how they pulled that off. I think this is also how they managed to make live action and in-game consistent. They don't clash at all with Jesse either. Like you can TELL the difference but it's integrated so seamlessly that you don't care.
I sincerely hope that Dr. Darling makes a return for the sequel, we need more Dr. Darling! Ahti as well, now that I think about it. More Dr. Darling and Ahti, please!
I think the best way to describe Dr. Casper Darling would be as follows: Quirked-Up Bill Nye, Goated with the Science. While this is of course a joke, he does give me that vibe. Like the Michael Reeves to Bill’s Mark Rober.
I was absolutely delighted to come across literally any video in the game. Dr. Darling provided some of the best bits we got in the game. Especially those Threshold Kids videos. Top notch, Remedy!
Well deserved, congrats Matthew! I've been gaming for 30 years and Control is in my list of top 10 games ever. I'm so happy to see it (and its cast) finally get the recognition it deserves!
Oh my golly, I don't even know how to properly gush about Mr. Porretta's performance. I don't want to hurt his balance, his surety that there are going to be things wrong with his performance; but Mr. Porretta's performance in this game was absolutely perfect.
An unexpected game turned out to be one of my favorites of all time, with Dr Darling being one of my favorite characters ever. Amazing! PS: Please explore Chester Bless/The Blessed Organization in the sequel :D thanks guys
Matthew Porretta giving so mutch soul/filling/fun into this already well crafted game, that i wana watch him explaining stuff from biology trough chemistry, gosh, even physics. Anything i hated troughout my studies would be exciting heard from this guy's character. All the glimpses and small bits he pour into acting... Everyone deserves an award in this game, but he really. Thank you for showing us how to do live action stuff right
He's not just being goofy, Control is in fact NOT the story of Jesse or Dylan, it's the story of Darling and Trench, and their conflicting/tragic situation.
