I had no idea that Dave the diver was not an indie game it was a really really good game but I agree with you upon learning this information it's definitely not deserving of the award
So it's so much that they poorly define their categories; they explicitly go against them. Dave the Diver is clearly within the traditional publisher system. There isn't really a feasible way to define 'traditional publisher system' that would make sense and also exclude Dave.
