When they announced marathon I knew it would sink them, along with their other projects, they were clearly diverting resources away from destiny which was already struggling and it crashed them, bye Bungie!

One of the first rules of using a study to prove a point is examining who benefits from the conclusions of the study and weather those benefactors are the ones doing the study. In this case Activision being the authors of this study and coming to a conclusion that supports what is clearly a profitable business model for them completely fails this test. There is no doubt SBMM makes the game more profitable, no one is arguing against that, but loot boxes also make games more profitable… That said, I do see the value of SBMM for the player. It clearly is keeping more people playing or they wouldn’t be doing it. The only problem is that CoD SBMM feels very aggressive. The swing in the skill levels you encounter from game to game is just atrocious and feels like you’re punished for having a good game. The bigger problem is that people already hate CoD for many other (valid) reasons. SBMM is just what has become the face of that general public dislike for the franchise. Things like disbanding lobbies are wrongly blamed on SBMM. Valid concern, wrong cause. So Activision will happily keep the SBMM conversation going if it means less people are talking about the actual bad business practices they use that ruin the game experience way more than SBMM ever could

Isaiah 33:1 “Woe to thee that spoilest, and thou wast not spoiled; and dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with thee! when thou shalt cease to spoil, thou shalt be spoiled; and when thou shalt make an end to deal treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee.”

I personally not played this game specifically because of the DEi and how ugly the characters look.... I'm pretty sure a very large number of potential players were repulsed by ugly characters and the in your face DEI of the game. Dismissing this bit minus of the game make you look stupid man ... Also, you logic of how you came up to your conclusions on this make you look really dumb .... I would explain further, but what's the point.

Something else to consider, stolen from reddit: there are only so many genre's in gaming and so many people in the world. Once a genre, or a gaming niche is filled by a competent product, everything else becomes a carbon copy or clone to your average consumer. It's been nearly 30 years and any new ARPG is still called a Diablo clone, for example. Any new FPS that looks sufficiently weird or has quirky weapons and shooting mechanics is a half-life clone or was inspired by it. When Concord was announced, it was immediately called an Overwatch clone. In addition, a large number of the people who are already playing those well made, well supported original genre fillers aren't likely to jump ship for a worse clone. Having to start all over at rank one, re-learn brand new characters and mechanics, and this one isn't even FTP, its $40 for a worse version of a game that already exists that you can play for free. You make some good points here, but the fact of the matter is devs need to stop making worse versions of things that already exist and start taking more risks with original IPs instead of playing it safe to count the easy money. Sure, they're charging for the game instead if going FTP and loading it with a battle pass and egregious micro transactions, FOR NOW. But it doesn't take telepathy to see from way around the corner what the intent is here and plus, recent gaming trends all but demand that they do the thing we all know they're gonna do. Yea this is a cynical take, I'm being pessimistic and making accusations without any actual proof and maybe everybody else is, but we dont that to the person who brings an umbrella with them to work everyday just in case. We say they're ahead of the game.

Going to have to disagree with your definition of scam. Yes some scams are long term but if you present a product or service fraudulently with the intention of making money that's a scam. The original trailer was nothing like the game that launched and even if it had been a good looter/shooter extraction game that still wouldn't have been the open world MMO it was advertised as. Whether the scam was intentional or not is another matter but supposedly a dev who worked on the game said it was never meant to be an MMO, so if that's true still a scam. As for people not knowing to not buy the game, considering it was the most wishlisted game on Steam it's not hard to imagine there were a lot of people who never saw anything aside of the trailer(s). IGN definitely deserves some blame as they glossed over red flags until after it was an obvious dumpster fire but who in their right mind trusts IGN now a days? The larger issue is gamers 'consumption habits', there have been enough terrible launches in the last however many years that gamers should know to wait before buying *any* game, never mind one coming from a studio as sketchy as Fntastic.

I wishlisted it not too but it, but to see how much of a scam it would be on release. When Steam gave me the notification it was out, I immediately went to RU-vid to watch a couple of minutes of let's play just to see how much of a mess it would be. I was not disappointed.

I feel this game was 100% supposed to be a complete scam once they started to put it together, literally building a game from 99.9% complete assets and releasing it for damn near AAA prices is a scam. But unfortunately for them I feel they were hoping the reception would be 50/50 (cause there was no way it was gonna swing in the positive) so they could keep the money they made, promise some patches then forget about the game like they did with their other games and keep the purchase money they made because companies don’t just go underwater after one game release and death. They literally let three games die like that before and they stayed afloat, so with that information I feel they were dead broke before they even made that dogshit (demo) so they wanted a final send off of cash to recoup. Unfortunately for the the negative reception was soooooo bad they couldn’t even do that which imo forced the situation we have now.

There is actually an investigation made by Belarusian bloggers who interviewed several developers (English subtitles available): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zpm68zdUgqo.html In short: it wasn't a scam indeed, it was a product of huge ambitions and incompetence of the studio owners who wanted to make an AAA game for cheap and had no idea how the games are made, constantly changing direction, art style and engine versions mid-development, asking things like "make this feature like in Last of US/GTAV/Spider-Man 2" and constantly harassing inexperienced members for arguing and/or not standing up to their crazy expectations, ordering to make a trailers with non-existing features and spending scarce resources for ridiculous marketing campaign (like Time Square ads). Devs were actually willing to work on the game, they even had a patch to fix the major technical issues it had on the launch, knowing full well that the game is not what it supposed to be, but hoping they would have a chance to build upon it (like No Man's Sky did), yet those owners decided to jump off the heat and has simply disbanded the studio after a train-wreck release. So basically both devs and players fell victims to two delusional arrogant bosses.

Nah. Most people don't follow channels like you or Force Gaming where you guys go over the discrepancies and tear down the latest news regarding the game. So yes, most people "have access to" this information. But also most people did not consume it, so they were not aware. All they had to go off of was what Fantastic put out. Which was blatant false advertising. There is a great video called "the Day Before and the Day After" where it compares the trailers to the actual game. They advertised so much shit that was not in the game it literally is a scam.
