Watch The Game Awards Orchestra perform music from the Game Of The Year award nominees at The Game Awards 2022. Hosted by Geoff Keighley, live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
@@michaelmonstar4276 he is, but its so hard to tell because of the emotion he put into it. That happens with the flute. I've seen it myself in person multiple times.
Even when your game doesn't win GOTY, just having the nomination and getting your game's theme played by this orchestra on this stage is more than enough of a reward and recognition.
This was my mindset even before the nominees were announced. I personally voted for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and I wanted it to be nominated for GOTY even, but I knew that the game would NOT stand a chance against Elden Ring and God Of War Ragnorok especially. But I honestly mainly wanted to hear the orchestra play anything from the game, that alone was a win for me.
@@Lana_305 There have been so many incredible games released this year, so many good games just overshadowed by games like Elden Ring and God of War. I mean, Elden Ring and God of War are incredible and deserve the praise they're getting, but far too many like Xenoblade aren't getting the recognition they deserve
@@Lana_305 To be fair on God of War Ragnarok’s OST winning over the others, it’s a mid Hollywood score w/ one good track that is really just leitmotifing off the previous game. I’ll take the “weeb music” tag if it means it actually sounds like something fire for Xenoblade 3 since it had custom hand-crafted traditional shinobue flutes, hand-crafted because they wanted a specific acoustics to them to match in-game models of the rivaling nations’ funerary flutes. Elden Ring is to me the 3rd weakest FS Soulslike OST but still has bangers. Wouldn’t be mad in the slightest if Metal Hellsinger won as I heard it and its a banger. Sonic Frontiers should’ve been nominated at least.
Flute Guy if you're seeing this know that the Xenoblade fandom loves and appreciates you. You gave us the best part of the medley and you're the true MVP of this year's Game Awards.
pedro eustache! he’s been around the film and game scoring industry! wwww awards for getting him more recognition even if it’s only as flute guy hahaha!

Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir & Eric-Maria Couturier) 1:33-2:03 - Stray - The Way You Compute Tonight by Studi01 2:03-2:33 - Elden Ring - The Final Battle by Tsukasa Saitoh 2:33-3:05 - God of War Ragnarok - Main Theme by Bear McCreary ft Eivør
Is it truly 'The Final Battle'? To my unmusical ears it sounds nothing like it. I've been scanning the soundtrack up and down for months and the only track that sounded remotely similar to this was 'Dragonlord Placidusax', but just vaguely so. Maybe also 'Ending'.
@@Thelaretus Yea, I haven't been too sure either, but some other videos list it as The Final Battle, so maybe the orchestra had to speed up the music to make it match the tempo of the whole piece?
It's absolutely astounding how Stray, an indie game, managed to get a game of the year nomination alongside all these triple A titles. What an incredible feeling and accomplishment that must be
Yeah there's almost always and Indie nominee... Control in 2019, Celest the year before, and of course Hades and It Takes Two in 2020 and 21. TBH Stray is probably the most shoehorned in of all them as it's not really that great of a game outside of atmosphere. Doesn't do anything insanely new and the story's not anything to write home about. Basically just a pretty walking simulator but people love cats so here we are lol.
@@anonymousnate678 I get your point but I still think that Plague Tale specially, and Horizon after that, are quite more shoehorned. I actually enjoyed Stray as a good game. I think the fact of not being a powerful being as a main character helped a lot.
@@NinjaRose23 I meant specifically for this year, he had little to no screen time and he ended up being the most memorable part for this year’s Game Awards show.
@@wadejg_blaze0n213well, that just my opinion. I honestly didn’t care what that kid said since I didn’t really understand what he said and why he said it. Anyone care to explain?
@@vicdemon4598 he said “I think I want to nominate this award to my reformed orthodox rabbi, Bill Clinton. Thank you, everybody” He was just troll who wanted to irritate adults lol Apparently he was detained and kicked out of the theater right after.
Jeez, that transition when Stray builds up and up and just hits like a bomb on the down beat when Elden Ring's theme starts... gave me shivers, it's so good
I'm currently saving 100% of my salary for a Samsung Galaxy S22, might get Xenoblade 3 with the December Salary, just $50K CLP in the Nintendo eShop of 🇵🇪
The whole band killed it everyone is just bringing attention to the flute player because it's an instrument that takes a lot of exertion of breath therefore everyone assumed he was "going way harder than the rest of the band" when in reality it just takes a lot of effort to make the flute audible in a sea of other instruments.
After watching TGA 2023's orchestra, I went back to watching TGA 2021 & 2022's orchestras and while all 3 of them are great in their own way, I'd say THIS orchestra for 2022 was, without a doubt, the *BEST orchestra* out of all of them. Simply WOW! *10/10.*
Funny, I just did the same thing and while this one was amazing, I think this year's was better; I might be biased because I love Down By The River and ToTK has a great orchestra sound as well
@@str8Jonesing After re-watching all orchestras from 2018 all the way to 2023, I'd say my top 2 favorites are *2022 orchestra* and *2018 orchestra* IMO.
The thing is that in 2022 the games aligned perfectly, almost every GOTY nominee had the same style, fantasy. While in 2023 the nominees were more diverse, having two horror games (idk, I haven't played Alan Wake 2 nor RE4 Remake), two action and adventure games, a family friendly game and a RPG, they didn't match up at all and the Orchestra still did a great job, but I do prefer the 2022 presentation over the 2023 presentation
Such a great moment to see the amount of respect that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is getting. Although, the game didn't win any awards, it was amazing to see it be nominated for GOTY, Best RPG, and Best Music. As part of the Xenoblade fanbase, it was such an honor to listen to The Weight of Life preformed with such passion!
i am ashamed i didnt recognize the way you compute tonight immediately when i used this to get that 1-hr achievement, i was too focused on the elden ring beat drop.
@@Thelaretus Even if the orchestra didn't perform any of the music, the audience should at least get a substantial listen to some of the best music from the nominees.
As a massive Xenoblade Fan, this really gives me tears of joy. I had never thought, that this series gets this much of attention and competes to Game of the Year with all of those other amazing games. Even though Xenoblade didn't win an award, I'm happy that it was on here. Especially the part of The Weight of Life in the Orchestra really made me cry in the middle of the night. Thank you for nominating my favorite series of all time, thank you for finally giving it the attention this series always deserved. Thank you, for letting us compete here with the best of the best. Congratulations to all the Award Winners 🙌
I can’t overstate how amazing that this presentation was. I know that people are (understandably) cynical about awards shows these days, but I thought that this year’s GAME Awards were actually really good. It felt like an actual celebration, and not just an industry circlejerk.
Yep, and to top it all off it had moments like the or orchestra/ flute guy, Rabbi Bill Clinton, Miyazaki getting on stage but not announcing DLC just yet, Al-Pacino handing out an acting award and the winner talks for 30 minutes, sequels getting announced, fans actually voting for categories, etc. It was gud... And Elden Ring won which is HOW IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE. But games like Stray and Xenoblade made it into the nominees... Animal simping for Malenia... That's all I'm gonna say.
@@misspurdy27288 I'm really not familiar with the entire soundtrack of Xenoblade and GoW, but I gotta say that the Elden Ring soundtrack is chef's kiss.
Seriously don't judge a game by its cover. I did the same thing with Xenoblade, and when I decided to give it an oportunity 10 months ago with Xenoblade 2... Best game ever.
Can we give the flute guy props for playing the best part for the XC3 theme. Even though it didn't win, I'm still glad it got nominated. Still GOTY in my heart. Got robbed for best music in my opinion though.
Played both but gotta admit xenoblade was robbed here imho. GOW’s other categories there was good reason for the wins, but music wasn’t one of them for me
I don't understand how Ragnarok won. It's soundtrack is by no means bad but it sounded a bit generic compared to the others and not just the main theme. Elden Ring, Xenoblade and Plague Tale are next level and much more memorable to me.
@@valentinvas6454 it was Recency Bias, the game released literally a week before the deadline to qualify for voting. That's the entire reason it won as many awards as it did. Ironically, I haven't heard a single thing about Ragnarok since then, and yet I'm still hearing praise about XC3 even now.
@@nataliecoronado4206as a Xenoblade 1&2 fan I thought three was mid. Don't see how Ragnarok won so many awards being a sequel and spiderman and totk won a single one tho
Honestly, this is the only arrangement that has genuinely made me emotional and even tear up a little bit, especially during the transitions from Plague Tale to Stray (1:33), and from Stray to Elden Ring (2:03). Absolutely amazing, and would've given anything in the world to have the honor of playing in this orchestra. Great job. Sincerely, a band student.
stray gave me tears in my eyes. What an honor for an indie game man. So happy it won best indie game. Edit: Song name for Stray was "The Way You Compute Tonight". Im really happy they chose that song :D
Not enough people are talking about how they turned the way you compute tonight from a silly little song a robot plays while you sleep into a beautiful epic masterpiece
Even though Stray didn't win GOTY, it's still one of my favorite games of 2022. You're playing as a cute cat and even it's even nominated together with Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok.
The 2022 GOTY Awards was special. Seeing smaller games like Stray be nominated for GOTY was so inspiring, and this medley conveys the feeling of that so well!
the way the flute guy absolutely went hard during ‘The Weight of Life’ shows truly how significant the flute is in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Bummed out it didn’t get any awards, but it’s a GOTY game in my heart. THANK YOU FLUTE GUY!!!!
I’m so glad for his performance really !! The award does not mean anything. Just the shear dedication this musician put into his performance.. got no words for it.. I hope you see this man. What a performance ! Thank you so much !
The orchestra at TGA is something I look forward to all year and really sets it apart from other award shows. Music to games is such an integral part of the experience that we love to see honored. Please never stop this tradition!
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 might not have gotten an award but at least we got to hear a real off-seer. All I wanted was to hear the game awards orchestra play "The Weight of Life" and it was marvellous!
I literally only tuned in for Stray and the song choice did not disappoint. I cried tears of joy. This whole tribute was absolutely AMAZING. Idk how many times I’ve watched this.
@@Hyhak Horizon: Forbidden West - In the Flood Xenoblade 3 - The Weight of Life A Plague Tale: Requiem - Main Theme (I think I'm not sure either) Stray - The Way You Compute Tonight Elden Ring - Radagon of the Golden Order/Main Theme God of War: Ragnarok - God of War Theme
I’m gonna be honest, seeing the cast of Xenoblade up on the big screen almost made me cry. I don’t know what it was, but it’s like I had flashbacks of their journey since I completed the game not too long ago.
Imagine if you were the flute guy playing normal song , then all of the sudden you were hired to play “weight of life “ and the other cool music I’d be going crazy too 😂
Reminder everyone. Live you life with as much enjoyment and eusiasium as the flute guy with the blond hair. That dude was living the best life, and it showed :D Amazing work. Might be one of my favorite orchestras, along with the 2020 one. Goodnight, have a great rest of your night/sleep, and see everyone next year
