I remember liking it alot when I saw it. I did have some critiques though. For instance, what if he hadn't jumped off in the right place. If I was him afterwards, I would have been pisses for those kind of chances being taken. I also would've been upset that I was that perfectly predictable.
There is a newer copycat movie but its awful I dont remember what its called but its like zoomer version of this movie Basically some kids get invited by mrbeast and then get fake murdered in a european crime dungeon
The ending ruined the movie for me. It would have been perfect if they cut right after he jumped off the building and died. Then they could have played back the old footage of him discovering his father’s suicide when he was a child. The End.
@JonnyKay-co4xc Just finished watching it. I thought you recommended me the movie bc it was similar to the game. Nonetheless falling down was a good movie! thanks
Another good example was when lex luthor obtained the powers of Superman. With the powers of a God he is suddenly able to comprehend things beyond human understanding and he basically has a existential crisis to the point where it breaks his spirit and he admits defeat, something he would never do before.
one of the greatest movie written a great psychological thriller having the viewers think the whole thing was all an attempt to kill him rather than a game set up by party planners
defo and the best thing is the director only let us know as much of the plot as Michael. We didn't see thing unfold and was always on the edge of our seat.
No he was being gangstalked and the only way out was suicide. This is really going on today without people's consent. Hollywood actors are Satanist headed to the lake of fire. How and why the hell would they come up with a movie like this in 1997😂😂. They are of there father the devil. All this stuff is in the bible.
@@NhelDgaming yeah the actors were keeping an eye on him, if he went to any of the other sides of the roof to jump they would have grabbed him in time.
The thing I like about this movíe despite small holes is the fact the degree of knowledge they had about Nicolás. That's why they knew he would choose to comit suicide when pushed at the límit (as his father) so the lights of the roof (glass one) looks like his only option. They knew exactly everything about him and at the end it was just a Game.
Well, You obviously didn't watch it to the end, based on that assumption of yours... The old man reveals by the end, the game was actually supposed to end with him PUSHING, Nicholas off the roof... Not himself jumping off of it.
They didn't plant it, the gun was real. It was his own personal firearm (a nice Colt Python) that they found in his home and loaded with blanks. They then feigned surprise as if they had missed finding it.
Anyone else here because of the Rey Rivera case? I wonder if Rey was involved in a game like this, which included his boss & friend, Porter. I 100% believe Porter was involved because he refused to cooperate with police & had nothing to say about it.
Or maybe because Rey was snooping around a secret society like the Freemasons, he didn't realize that they too were studying him and gave him the screenplay treatment.
So, their father was 48 when he killed himself because he was rich but had some issues with himself, so his brother tried to teach Nicholas how to respect people and make sure the same thing doesnt happen to him?
Unless.. you truly experienced an “ego death” like Nicholas at the end. I need all your information, plus answers to personal questions… and millions of dollars
The Game is a classic. The movie had a good twist. It was a cruel birthday prank. It was really cruel what they did to Nicholas. His life could had really been in danger and he could had killed Conrad for real and he could had committed suicide. It was heart breaking seeing Nicholas cry at 5:02. He really thought he had killed Conrad.
Nicholas Van Orton was an overbearing asshole. The point of the Game was to change him. His brother Conrad didn't want him to become like their father so gave him the gift of the game as a way to change Nicholas's ways.
I think you are entirely missing the point, here. Nicholas had become a lonely shell of a man. Only being somewhat personable with his housekeeper. He completely dismisses his ex-wife when she calls to wish him a happy birthday. He is convinced his brother is a junkie only looking for handouts when they meet. He has lost the meaning of life. The "Game" leads him through a journey where he believes he has lost his wealth; his brother; and his will to live. ONLY AFTER living/walking/breathing this journey can he realize the importance of his real life. That he is loved. That he was taking for granted the things which are important to him.
How the hell he missed all those truss joists on the way down through the glass ceiling is beyond lucky. No amount of questions answered is going to predict how he jumps, where the wind might carry him, where he jumps from exactly...if he drifts 10 feet this way or that way...I mean those bay spacings are fairly tight, missed them by what, 10 or 15 feet max? A little contrived for me, but still, a fantastic movie, great acting, editing and direction. Deborah Unger was my high school crush on screen, she was so dynamite in this. Also, not one smartphone in the whole damn movie which reminds me of those times when people would sit down and actually talk to each other, remember post-movie discussions with my friends and family, we'd always talk about the picture and what we took from it. I give it about 2-7 years before Hollywood decides to remake this and ruin everything...again.
If you look closely at 2:43, there's a sign that says "if you're going to commit suicide, do it over here and aim for the break away glass section". So they clearly had all of their bases covered.
@@Gerbravery But why? Nick won't see Conrad's back. And even if he rolled Connie over, there's no reason to have an exit wound, not like Nick would say "Hey, no exit wound, what the hell is going on". The gun and bullet were real. He shot his brother. He jumped 20 floors through glass and died. There's no other rational way to view it.
@@Dwarkle idk it’s something hard to explain but it’s definitely cannot that is was all special effects. The assumption that he died and is dreaming all of this is more of a theory most people have on shows and movies.
I still think everything is part of the game. They say the guys from the van were shooting blanks, but they literally shot through the wall to bust the door in? And the guy at the end who takes the bill for the party has a weird look on his face; the same guy who told Nicholas that his pen exploded... I love the ambiguity
Yeah, both those movie do an excellent job at keeping ones attention and interest. Not a dull or unnecessary moment in either I’d say. You must have ADD like me. Haha
I remember being in tears at the theatre during this scene. I remember being really mad at conrad though..b/c jeeez what a hell of a way to make a point. Glad Nicholas understood why he'd been put through all that. I dont know if I'd have been able to be as diplomatic.
People. You don't get it. First, it's a movie so don't worry about where they would put the mattresses. Second, homofobico. The game was tailored to HIM so that he WOULD get it. It wasn't your game so you wouldn't get it. But..., if you don't get it you don't get it. Too bad for you.
@Alex Naaaa. But I have to admit that rereading what I wrote 7 years ago I sounded pretty arrogant. I know a lot less now. I guess I've gotten stupider. Lol. I don't even know what I meant by homofobico. I really hope that is a typo rather than some stupid comment or obscure reference.
@@Bropann I don't know you but the fact that you can admit that something you said in the past was wrong or arrogant shows how much you have evolved over the years. I think that makes you smarter now than you were back then :)
My opinion is that he killed her brother and killed himself too, the scene (party with everybody) after the suicide is just in his mind while he dying in the floor.
Great movie but one of the most 'suspend your disbelief' endings (actually all of the 2nd and 3rd acts) you'll ever see. Just don't bother to question anything because you'll ruin it all
One thing I always wondered is what if he landed on his head/neck? I understand they did their research to see how he’d react to every situation, but something like that is pure chance. Also, what if he decided to kill himself with the gun instead of jumping? He could hurt himself with a blank round
They used breakaway glass so it doesn't really matter, assuming he didn't get any in his eyes. If he used the gun, there were only blanks and they'd probably have to go to plan B and push him over the ledge.
dont think he would end up his life by gun. His father's death, the clown at the beginning already implant the idea of jumping off to end his own life.
@@ctyetta1 It's funny, because I literally rewatched this movie three days ago and realised the exact same thing. I suppose through their analysis they worked out that he'd try to take his own life the same way his father did. Still, he might have deliberately dove head first to ensure the death.
This film is fantastic watched it last night for the first time ..when they was all sitting there in the room when van Orton takes the blonde girl hostage at gunpoint 🙂
But why would he kill himself? Did he think a safety balloon would be there to cushion his fall? and he went through the ceiling not glass. I'm pretty sure someone killed hin
@boet613 I always thought it was a squib rather than a b-proof vest. If Nicholas shot a blank, then the squibs blow in the champagne bottle, Conrad's chest and back also blow their blood packs in response to him firing. I love this movie too - I think a lot of people were mad there wasn't a head in a box at the end so they dogged this great flick too much.
Saša Marković How exactly? They were on the other part of the roof. He was already on the edge. How exactly would they avoid that? This whole movie Is a continuous plot hole. What if he decided to Jump from the other side of the building? What if he didnt manage to return to the US? What if he hadn't asked for christine's address? Why are there bullet holes on the car if they are not real bullets? What if he hadn't shot his brother, understanding that this is the game? What if he bought a real gun, instead of using the one in his house? It seems that CRS is composed by clairvoyants, not actors. So many scenes that could have happened in a different way, resulting in a possible death for someone.
He wouldnt have. The hours of testing and expert genius samples they collected allowed them to predict every move he made. Thats a big part of the movie and the answer to many "what if he" questions
You have to be strong through the devils illusions..when you have a strong mind people will do things like this to try and throw you off..I wouldnt of hugged Sean Penn o would of punched him in the nose.. Stay strong out there
This movie is so unrealistic. Nobody would put someone through something like this as a means of a surprise party. So much could go wrong. What if he decided to shoot himself in the head with the gun rather than jump off the building after thinking he killed his brother? What if he jumped off a different part of the building?
It’s not supposed to be realistic idiot. Your main goal is to explain the plot, the story, and the lesson of said story. You don’t have to shoot for realism half of the time or you’ll have no story to tell
@@suda_lifts So you're saying that anything goes? If an angel had swooped down to save him that would be okay? The movie set itself up to be somewwhat plausible, and at the end came up with a ridiculously unlikely event to conclude it.
@@suda_lifts You're being facetitious but you need a certain level of realism to make the premise feel credible. And the ending fumbled it. Cope and seethe.
One thing I've never understood is that some people don't like this ending because "there's no way they could've known where he was going to jump!" These people have controlled his TV, turned off all the lights and made everyone flee in a crowded parking garage, made an elevator break down, knew exactly when he would need a taxi, knew he would go a diner and see a commercial for heart medicine on TV, knew he would take the actor on TV to CRS, knew he would shoot his brother, yet for some reason, him jumping off a building is what people can't believe. I just don't get it man...
Honestly I would have probably jumped too if I had accidently killed my own brother or any other person I loved... it was a logical possibility, knowing that his father has commited suicide and that Nicholas was in a bad period even before that. If he didn't jumped they probably had another plan. The company is shown to be an all mighty organisation, a mastermind of the human psychology, able to predict their client's move, like if people want to complain you can invalidate the whole movie because such a compagny is impossible, and would probably be illegal in the real life. The ending would have been bad if it had changed the message of the whole movie, but here it just sublimize it. Nicholas took everything he had for granted and was frankly arrogant and cold, and it took him to loose everything to realize what he had, and then when everything is given back to him he finally shows love and gratitude for it. That's what the movie is about
Darkest is the idea that they could "control" his physical body without him knowing it. More practical also on the psychological "steering" aspect of his own mind's justification (false positive perceptions). Hence brain mapping. The physical test are only soft reinforcements.
