Genuinely cannot believe it's been a whole DECADE since I first saw that delightful purple face at 9 years old and watched PewDiePie play this when I came home from school (and managed to spook myself out of sleeping for a few nights as a result) Now I'm nearly 20 and physically threw my phone after seeing it once again on my homepage. Nice to know some things don't change :')
@@rickypedia999 I'd love to see him play Ib. Only problem I could see is it could lead to people who know it wanting him to try and get every ending. Granted it's not a very long game so that's possible unlike say Mass Effect
@@KlintKaras mogeko castle may be a no go for gtlive. Some of the themes might be a bit too much for RU-vid today, ya know the R stuff including how that's ons of the game overs
He’s losing his gamer instincts. The fact that he didn’t save as much during a horror game and that piano puzzle of pain didn’t just click is proof. Edit: he also didn’t read the item descriptions
There were a lot of "There are two ways to try this, I tried one, it didn't work, I give up" moments in this one. When he tried to use the screwdriver to unhinge the door, and used it on the space next to the door *without trying it on the door itself* I facepalmed. The piano puzzle where he got all the digits right the first time but transposed the upside down keys' numbers and didn't just try the other way next and left, then eventually came back and started swapping out the middle keys' numbers even though he knew exactly what they were supposed to be because they weren't upside down, plus he had writing materials in front of him and could have just written down the safe code and which keys had which number and *compared them directly* once he realized 9 was 6 rotated, not flipped, and *then* said the puzzle required "too much brute force" when he finally solved it drove me nuts. And he clearly noticed something wrong on the upstairs map where it shows the tatami room area, but doesn't seem to have noticed that it *literally shows you there's a second room there* and presumably thinks the only clue to that puzzle was slightly off-shade wallpaper.
it might just be me but it feels like he's trying to rush through the game a little and if he just stopped and thought about it more he would get the puzzle elements better, e.g. the piano puzzle that he would have gotten if he paid better attention to the shape of the keys
Still waiting on MatPat to play the Witch's House since he's going back to all the games he wanted to play but was passed the hype. Glad he got around to Ao Oni.
Lmao i thought i was the only who though it looked like yandere dev- probably because I have only seen the one picture of him where the camera is really close to his face lol
MatPat, I would love to see you do a full play through of this game. I don’t think it’s very long too. Also, obviously, some kind of theory needs to be made about Ao Oni, whether it be lore-based or on the science of the creature. Love to see you covering the game!
I got happy when I saw he was playing Ao Oni, but then that made me remember that Hetaoni's development was cancelled and will probably never resume and I got sad...
Oh man, yeah that brings back memories, I was obsessed with HetaOni content when I was a teenager & watched a playthrough and I remember being devastated when I found out that the game wasn’t finished. I actually liked HetaOni and fan content of it even more than regular Hetalia
@@melanietaylor5453 oh yeah! That one was creepy! And when you find out why he was crooked, I got shivers down my spine when I found out back then lol.
Would also be cool to see Matt play this expanded version of the game called Ao Oni R which was released on itchio it’s really good in both story telling and gameplay especially with the improved graphics compared to the original.
@@ricardocavaco1910 it’s a fan game but I would have to say it’s one of the better ones made that sticks to original game in many ways but also changes things in ways that make it much more fleshed out in a sense like a more expanded plot line along with adding more puzzles and having different endings based on certain choices and actions you make.
Ok... seriously. I just decided to rewatch Markiplier's playthrough of this game. A game that I've seen no one else play for a loooooooong time. And then MatPat plays it. Right after I watched Mark. Just...wow. That's one of the craziest coincidences I've ever encountered.
@@helpkirbyhasagun_2047 yeeeessss that's all i was thinking of when i saw the thumbnail! wtff that was such a long time a go i'm about to graduate college now
I was trying to do some stretches while listening to this but hearing the dude struggle to describe RPGs and Matt asking him how he got this job made me laugh so hard I hurt myself
I am screaming at the one thought going on inside my head and all it's screaming is just, "YOU HAVE ONE DOOR THAT HAS NO DOORKNOB AND ANOTHER THAT DOES, YET GOES NOWHERE?!"
Man, Ao Oni. I'm feeling so nostalgic. You should definitely try out Misao, Mad Father, lb, Yume Nikki, the Strange men series (crooked man, sand man, boogie man and hanged man), Mogeko Castle, Mermaid Swamp and so much more!
I get the feeling Matpat isn't familiar with the RPGMaker genre and immediately petition for him to play all the big ones and maybe do theories on some of them.
OH MY GOD NOSTALGIA!!! This was one of the first indie horrors I watched Markiplier play when I was first getting into that stuff. Old timey 8-bit horrors like this hold a special place in my heart. You have no idea how happy I am to see y’all play this ^^ If you need ideas, y’all should check out Ib some day! Really cool game!
The fact that MatPat thinks going into abandoned buildings is a serious offense is adorable to me. I even got caught by security in a derelict industrial building and the guy just told me to leave
"It was a bit more bruteforcy than I expected it to be." To me, the code on the safe looks like an upside down E key, a right side up D key, a right side up E key, and an upside down C key. Upside down 6 - 7 - 6 - upside down 1, or 9 - 7 - 6 - 1.
My cat is EXTREMELY focused and interested on watching this play through. I thought she was watching my fish for a while but realized she was very intently focused on my TV, instead. She’s been watching for probably the past 25 mins straight. She’s only looked away to move to a different spot on my bed and is right back to focusing on it.
YOOOO MATPAT'S FINALLY PLAYING AO ONI!! ya love to see it! i can't wait to see matpat play all the amazing RPG Maker games that were popular back in the day, like ib, witch's house, misao, and mad father. (angels of death too, even though it's kinda recent, from 2016) their stories and lore are a must to experience. 👀 this is so exciting!
Mad Father sounds good, especially since it got a complete overhaul update last year so there's some new exclusive content that wasnt available back when people were playing it on youtube
Oh my god this brings me back. I remember watching both Cry and Pewd’s play throughs of this game. I would love to see all of those old rpg games brought back!
i have a playlist called "the best videos of all time" that i put videos that i would watch over and over again in, none of your videos are in it for one reason and one reason only. i cant put all your videos in that playlist, that would take forever
Today on GTLive we find out MatPat has never played an RPG Maker game. Z is confirm, X is cancel, C is a bonus button, Q and W are shoulder buttons. A lot of RPG Maker games don't rely on C, Q, and W but they're useful to remember, as the game might not explain when it does include them.
38:36 Just explaining how the safe combination puzzle works: like you guessed, you need to match the piano keys to the symbols on the safe, and then use the numbers on those keys. The orientation of the symbols is also important, because that's how you figure out the last number (rotating both the symbols and the numbers corresponding to it, e.g., P = 9 d = 6). From the piano keys we got b = 1, ⊥ = 7, and d = 6. The safe symbols were P ⊥ d ¶, which gives us the combination 9 (P = 9 d = 6), 7, 6, and 1 (b = 1 ¶ = 1, if you draw the number 1 as a "vertical stick", the way it was on the piano keys).
This is one of those games that I saw when I was 12 and I thought it was super scary and couldn't sleep because of it. Now I'm 17 and I'm still jumpy from this game lmao
Bruh, MattyPatty really breakin into haunted mansions after dealing with SENTIENT CODE THAT ACTS LIKE A STALKER GIRLFRIEND (i.e, Doki Doki literature club's President , Monika)
im going to join the hoard of commenters begging for the witch’s house, mad father, and ib, if you liked this you’ll love so many of the other really incredible rpg horror games, they’re all relatively short but full of really incredible atmosphere and sound design and they’re surprisingly scary, would love to see you check them out!
Yesssssss I love this game can we get Matt to play all the old school RPG games like this? The crooked man? Mad father? The witches house? Corpse party? Ib??? Let's bring back old school RPGs
Wait so if the hole under the bed leads to the room with the piano _and_ the monster, doesn't that mean that the locking of the doors was intentional to avoid him running free in the house? Also doesn't that mean that it is one of the homeowner's sleep paralysis demon and their fault for the kids being traumatized and/or dying? Also purple boi haha theme song go brrrrrr
This is quite the throwback. I remember when this game was first circulating I was too scared to watch a playthrough of it (wasn't a huge fan of jump-scare horror games then nor am I a huge fan of them now, but I can deal with them now). Now I am experiencing it for the first time and I hope to see more episodes of this in the future
This was my favorite game when I was in high school. It was more like 2010 not 2012 youtube lol. I watched Pewdiepies play through of this game soooooo many times.
