"Fundamentals, Rules, Popularity, Governing Organizations." This video is from 2000 yet still serves as a good resource for those new to softball that need a visual aid for understanding the basics of how the game is played.
Natalie Ordonez I thought the same thing but my team mates ended up being really nice and supportive even tho ive never played before and my coaches are as well!
This is my sixth year of softball. I have a tournament starting tomorrow... Just wanted to look up some random softball videos and stumbled across this. Wish us luck!
I started playing softball when I was 9. I am now 47 and still play ball. I played fast pitch as a youth and both fast and slow pitch in my 20s and 30s. Eventually my fast pitch team disassembled in my 30s and since then I've only played co-ed slow pitch. What's very sad is seeing my skill deteriorate as I've aged. :( My brain still knows how to throw, catch, and bat, but my muscles just don't work the same. Very depressing because I love the game.
+sshelget I just turned 60 and play third base. Long ago I decided that since I couldn't keep my muscle mass, I would just maintain flexibility - and that's what's worked over the years. Hit 4/5 our last game, one hot grounder for a sweet double play, and scored three runs, and regularly get those line drives still at third even at my age. [I admit to one error, but that's okay...] I have several exercises that help quickness, concentration, and those leg muscles... Keep up your game if at all possible. It's a great pleasure at 60. I hope to play till 65, then quit with a big party for everybody on the team, and re-start chorus till near the end. I've always loved baseball of any kind.
I've been playing softball for a month and I love it.in a game against san juan the pitcher almost broke my elbow from her pitch she also hit me in my thigh. Our First game I slided into home wrong but I still got it. It messed me up. Scars and blood but it was worth it
I have had an interest of playing softball i have played soccer for 3 years and i have wanted to try something new this is a very informational video it taught me alot thank you !!!!
This is a great video to explain about the game of softball. It is extremely explicit and detailed with images and diagrams that support the explanations. It is a shame the footage is a little broken. Is there anything that can be done about this?
this video just taught me softball like my school is stated a new semester of sport and if i chose to play than I would save the whole team so i was kind of pressured then my first training we were taught catching then the next practice was with everyone and the newbies new nothing but how to catch and that was useless cos we were only batting:-)
you throw it to wear the runner is heading. and in your position. if the runner is on 1st base then you have to touch your own base to get them out cos they are running to 2n base. if they had just hit the ball, you throw it to 1st base cos they are running there. if they are on your base when you catch the ball you can throw it to the 3rd base before they get there, or you can tag your own base before they reach 3rd base. they like to sneak so tagging your own base is easier. i play softball:)
If you have a player on a base and batter hits the ball but its caught, does the player on the base have to run back to their base before they throw it to their base? Sounds confusing sorry.
what if im 13 and never have played a game or can't catch the ball without blinking. haha i truly have a horrible life where i can't even join a sport for reasons. and now i think it's to late anyway.
one thing im really confused about is, how do u know where to throw the ball to, after you've caught it? Like, do i throw it to 1rst base, or 3rd base, if im on 2nd ? Someone please explain ! :(
Catch fly balls, field groudballs or line drives that make it through the infield, and are part of the offense. They are the last line of defense that keep runners from advancing too far. By far, the infield is where most of the action is, but the OF is very important.
