Takeover > Ether. Prior to this battle, I was a Nas fan and didnt like Jay-Z at all. But after the battle, I had to give it to Jay-Z. Takeover was 🔥. The beat, the lyrics, the insults, it was funny, had swag, great energy, and was skillful. I gotta be honest. I dont see why so many think Ether was great. Nas had a lot of 8th grade gay jokes in it, not much charisma, low energy. Some lines were nice....but overall that song is HEAVILY OVERRATED!

Lol i grew up during this time, it was definitely not like that at all. Jay’z’ recorded Takeover first, then Nas recorded ‘Got Yourself a Gun’, which was a solid record but no match for Takeover. Then Nas returned with Ether and thats when Ether overshadowed Got Yourself A Gun and was inadvertently positioned next to Takeover. Basically, Nas made two attempts at Jay’s Takeover record in order to compete. Think about that for a moment…

Interesting. Nasir is my second favorite rapper of all time. For me, it's O'Shea Jackson and Nasir Jones. I feel like Nasir had the excitement and Shawn Carter had the sting. I felt the sting from _Takeover._ When he started disrespecting Nasir catalog, that kinda hurt me. Overall, Imma give it to Nasir. _Takeover_ kinda came and went. _Ether_ is still here. I'm so glad those brothas were able to patch it up and move on because that was a tricky period in Hip-Hop. That's really when all that blackball sh¡t was gettin' outta control. Sh¡t, if you said "hello" to the wrong n¡gga, yo' career was curtains. They tried hella hard to make Nasir a memory. He would've ended up like Mic Geronimo at the rate he was goin'.

Agree Ye produced the better beat but that's what makes ether so special, Nas's performance carried that beat so good people forgot that the beat was mediocre and became a staple in hip hop history where when you hear the beat you automatically know what time it is.

“Been around since the ‘80s” nobody outside of NY knew him until after BIG & ‘Pac died. Reasonable Doubt is one of the best albums ever but it wasn’t known when it came out. He was overshadowed. Jay doesn’t have the people like ‘Pac, Nas, or even Wayne. Jay up there but can’t be the GOAT.

Man, The Game said "Right now, Jay-Z and Wayne got longevity and are solid." Okay! Understand preferences, but i will never compare double lines, entertaining punchlines and ego tripping to the lyricism level of Nas. And Nas just dropped, recently, Magic and King's Disease sagas, with all the quality. Nas have been making entertaining and motivating songs, talking about relevant things and not using too sugar (doubles, egos, etc) to attract people. Maybe in terms of influence to the new generation and impact in global market, but not about longevity and catalog, man... Again: There's a style for every moment and i understand preferences, but no way putting Jay and Wayne above Nas. Not even right now!

Nas is number one to me. I don’t think Jay is better than Nas. If you want to talk about album sales and popularity than yes Jay is better than Nas. But if I’m talking about raw talent, penmanship and creativity Nas is far superior. I would even say that Lil Wayne is better than Jay as well if you want to talk about skill level. I’m with 50 Cent.
