We d lost to OU in a close game earlier but OU dominated the Championship Game. KU was pushed past Mizzou into the Orange Bowl because we had one more loss to OU than everyone else. Mangino is fired after the following season and my KU buddies had no appreciation of what he had done with that program.

@@chadstearman no but they had six games against bowl-eligible teams with two more 5-7s and then beat #5 11-2 VA Tech. Missouri had an SOS of 2 and Kansas had a -1. SRS 16 vs 14. Not much of a difference in reality. Missouri also got boatraced in both their losses whereas Kansas' was by one possession when the kicker missed two kicks.

Yes. Missouri lost the title game, and had to settle for the cotton bowl. Oklahoma went to the fiesta bowl. Kansas then went to the Orange bowl. The only good thing was that Kansas won the orange bowl, Missouri won the cotton bowl, and OU lost as they got blown out in the Fiesta Bowl.

It’s hard to say. Kansas was definitely much better defensively than Missouri was and Missouri‘s big problem in the big 12 championship game was they couldn’t stop Oklahoma from scoring. While Kansas likely would not have beaten Oklahoma it for sure would’ve been a much better game.

Kansas only missed it because they lost to Missouri. Also Kansas had a legitimate shot at the national title because they very easily could’ve beaten Missouri if they didn’t have such a slow start or if they had just a few more seconds on the clock on their final drive. Missouri on the other hand was absolutely destroyed by Oklahoma in the big 12 championship so they were never really close.

Or they lose this game, get called a fluke by everybody, struggle with injuries and upsets the next couple years, have their coach resign in shame over abuse allegations that likely would’ve been overlooked if the team had won a national championship, and fall into complete mediocrity for the next decade plus. That is 3 spots behind Mizzou. Not that it matters anyway, anyone with half a brain could see Mizzou was the far-superior team that year and skated by with literally the easiest schedule in the big 12 that year and possibly in the history of the conference to that point. The only reason it ever looked like they had a chance in that game was because Gary Pinkel was notorious for going into run-the-clock mode way too earlier in games because he didn't like to run up the score. If Missouri and kU play 10 times that season, Mizzou MAYBE loses one (but I doubt it). They were clearly the better team and everyone who isn't a kU fan knows it.
