The game that made Gukesh the World Championship Challenger | Nakamura vs Gukesh | Candidates 2024

D. Gukesh was up against Hikaru Nakamura in the final round of the FIDE Candidates 2024. Although Gukesh had half a point lead over the field, it was going to be a tough game because if Hikaru would win the game, he would guarantee himself at least the tiebreaks. Also Hikaru had the white pieces. How did the 17-year-old youngster fare in this game and how did he navigate his way against his dangerous opponent.

Please continue with the idea of putting the timestamps of their clocks after they move. I think I saw one of your posts that had those. On the way to playing b4 Gukesh had thought for 15 min at one point, suggesting b4 was not prep, but that's all lost since we don't have any info from their clocks.

Just recently started following chess, so excuse me if the question is silly ... Why do the players note down their moves? Can't they access it later through someone else if they want to analyse the game? Doesn't noting down the moves distract their focus from the board? Or is it a requirement to sort of acknowledge that they made those moves and then they sign off each others sheets at the end of the game? Also, is it just a good gesture to rearrange pieces at the end of the game?
@user-SkmBeats
@user-SkmBeats 19 дней назад
just to ensure, no cheating happens, also its a rule by fide, so they must have thought something behind it.. so dont worry.
@zaphbrox8239
@zaphbrox8239 19 дней назад
@@user-SkmBeats no cheating happens? Duh... with so many people around watching how can any 'cheating' happen? And what kind of cheating? This is not the kind of games people play in school where they swipe a piece or add a piece when the opponent is not looking. And 'they must have thought something behind it' doesn't explain anything ... what is that something?

@@zaphbrox8239 it's to acknowledge that they have made a move. for example in the 50 move rule it is really hectic to check all the moves with the scoresheet it take way less time.

@@shashwatgupta6192 Ah ok ... interesting ... I'm surprised the clocks don't register the number of presses yet, if that is the reason.

actually the last capture was unnecessary. Only kings + one bishop on board means insufficient material draw . But the most nervous moments for Gukesh were still ahead because Nepo and Caruana still were playing very thrilling game and Caruana blundered couple of times away his +4 or +5 advantage in complicated positions., hard to calculate for human being
