Music back in the day was so full of energy and had soul. If this doesn't make you move I don't know what will. I'm not buying the whole "newer is better" concept. This is Real Music.
On this day in 1985 {April 13th} the Gap Band performed "I Found My Baby" on the ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'... At the time "I Found My Baby" was at position #13 on Billboard's Hot Soul Singles chart, three weeks later it would peak at #8 {for 3 weeks}... "I Found My Baby" peaked at #31 {for 5 weeks} on Billboard's Top 100 chart... Between 1977 and 1995 the Tulsa, Oklahoma band had thirty two records on the Hot Soul Singles chart, fifteen made the Top 10 with four* reaching #1, "Burn Rubber on Me (Why You Wanna Hurt Me)" in 1980, "Early In The Morning" in 1982, "Outstanding" in 1982, and "All My Love" in 1989... Sadly, founding member Robert Wilson passed away at the young age of 53 on August 15th, 2010 {heart attack}... May he R.I.P. * They just missed having three more #1 records when their "You Dropped A Bomb On Me" {1982}, "Beep A Freak" {1984}, and "Going In Circles" {1986} all peaked at #2...
Heard this song and had a flashback. We (my husband and I) would drive down the road going somewhere, and this song (in his large CD collection) would come on, and he would reach out for my knee and start playing pretend bass (he was a bass player) and I would mouth the words (I can't keep a tune), but when they sing "I found my Honey" We'd both sing the word "Honey" out at the top of our lungs and look at each other. We did this for some 30 years... Great fun was had by both of us. ❤ I miss having someone to share the music like we did.
This was still during a time when the choreography was just as important if not more important than the song. Back when they would record an album work on dance routines release the album then go on tour.
Carla Linton. I love ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ The Gap Band. They are one of my favorite Soul Band of the 70s and the 80s. One of my favorite songs by The Gap Band is called. I Found My Baby. This is one of my favorite Old School Jams back in the day.
Mark Davenport Indeed, but it's basically Outstanding, Part 2 in terms of the musical score. Although I like 'I Found My Baby' much better than 'Outstanding'.
Thank you for my brother chuck limbrick I’m not s😮how y’all met but I’ve lilsten to since 1980 I we have listened to y’all for years. I’m glad y’all got to meet alway😊friends
Outstanding for damn sure. Much love and respect to the Gap Band. Their music brought much spark to my life (past, present and future). Darrin is right GB jacked their own beat lol. For those that don't like this...it's just not for you! This video is cute. This song has been in my head for 3 days now. The kid from them MJ videos (think his name is Brandon), he was an excellent choice. Nostalgia setting in.
I remember seeing this video as a lil girl thinking this lil girl was really missing. And heavy judgment for a little because I was mad that her parents weren’t out there helping her brother look for her🤯🤣 Awwww I was so young ❤️
God bless you "TgotSoul" for posting this video. I saw this video once when I was 8 years old back in 1985. Because I was so young, I never knew who sang or what it was called. The only thing I could remember from the video was a pretty little girl at the end carrying balloons. All my life every time I heard "Outstanding" it would sort of click something in my memory but never enough. This truly takes me back to being that 8 year old girl. For 25 years I've been trying to figure it out. Tx
@younghog2511 I'm 36 and my father would play music the gap band, kool and the gang and earth wind and fire every saturday too. My father passed in 2000's. You took me back with this post. Growing up in the 80's was the best.
