This review was uploaded on a monday. I hate mondays. I managed to watch an early screening of The 2024 Garfield Movie. It wasn't good. I wish I hadn't.
8:32 THIS!!! Honestly hoping that they’ll be more animated kids movies in the future that are mature yet also comedic that can be enjoyed by both kids and adults. We need more movies like The Incredibles and Ratatouille
Thry exist already and have existed for more than half a century in the eastern sphere. Western entertainment is hopeless. Only thing its good for is making something to keep what little kids are out there now distracted and to be made fun of by yt reviewers
8:32 No offense, but not every animated feature film has to be "mature" to be enjoyable, if you catch my drift. The Emperor's New Groove, Spies in Disguise and Curious George have comedic moments, but they don't overshadow the plot and chemistry the main characters have. I just wished that they stuck with the original scenes from the storyboard of The Garfield Movie, with dark moments, such as his father being on the verge of having his life at risk fed to an alligator, and motivated by comedic takes on modern tech, being a storyboared scene where Garfield acts like voice operator to the digital TV system to track a video for information from a printer (similar to sleuth mysteries) I don't hate this film, as Garfield and Odie are likeable enough, including the father, and the animation represents the Jim Davis style rather well, despite some overglaring textures (its fine) But given that Hollywood's lack of care in 2024 is just dropping creativity in favour of replacing artistry with ai generated tech, the passion and creative freedom for the American filmaking department is fucked. I wasn't expecting much for a recent Garfield movie, but i expected better, even for a longtime comic strip IP.
I think you don't fully understand what I mean by "mature". The Emperor's New Groove is a good movie, and sure it isn't the most violent or nuanced, but it has very clever fast comedy, charming characters, and a clear message that resonated with many people. A lighter film for sure, but its still a mature movie in my opinion in the way that it conveys its aspects. Spies In Disguise is not a completely immature movie per say, but its completely middle of the road and a bit uninspired and formulaic when it comes down to it's execution. Sure, some of the concepts are cool, but the whole film wasn't handled in a mature way in my opinion. That's why I think "lighter" films can be mature. I'm not expecting the animated equivalent of Schindler's List, but the best animated movies are mature, and we are seriously lacking them at the moment (thank god for Spider-verse and The Last Wish).
@@FirstClassJunk+ Still, that's kind of a mandate from studios in the 2020s, and the cartoonish villain behaviour of these CEOs around Hollywood aren't helping. It's such a shame that both Kung Fu Panda 4 and The Garfield Movie had potenial plotlines from BTS, only to have them thrown out the window in favor of fast pacing. I'll hold my breath The Looney Tunes: The Day the Earth Blew Up, (by GFM studios) and the upcoming Wallace & Gromit film to succeed. The Garfield movie had outstanding marketing, as that's the only wide exposure from an animation film of an IP in recent times (Universal and Disney are lacking that) Also, that title is inaccurate: Scoob was the starting point for overloaded pop culture references and making a MCU out of their other IPs. even Garfield did reference and meta gags in the comics, but only done rather subtle (the 2024 movie just had five, but that's kind of it)
Ngl my first look at a trailer for the movie was a scene of baby Garfield and my thoughts weren't "Awww so cute!" but rather "Wow they're really laying it on thick with the feels huh? Trying to get people to care?" Didn't have any plans on watching the movie, and watching this video and hearing your thoughts was actually a lot more enjoyable
Like it or Dislike it, but if there's anything we should all agree on, it's that this Movie along with the Mario Movie are obviously better than: Brave, Ghost Busters 2016, Star Wars the Last Jedi, Ralp Breaks the Internet, Mulan 2020, Raya, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Strange World, Wish, and Mega Mind 2!
When i see how most animated movies are boring nowadays, with Garfield being one of those "could have been way better if producers let the artists actually do their jobs".... It is a wonder how they didn't failed the Mario Movie. Wait no, it is easy to understand. They were actually working with the right persons, the right way. Sure they didn't make anything brand new, but not only was there nothing to cringe about, but the original material (as well as the fans) was respected. They didn't made a movie for the _sole_ greed of money. They had a roadmap. The Garfield movie could have been fresh air for this and introduce it to a new generation. But now it will just be a movie you will see mid afternoon during spring holidays, and forget about it in 3 weeks.
if sony pictures animation would have been involved in this garfield film their name been credited in the movie itself but they didn't much like when sony pictures animation name wasn't credited for the angry birds movie
People say movies have not a lot of advertising but now people are saying there's too much of advertising? We need this type of advertising these days. Usually everybody doesn't even know when a movie is coming out
@@JoshNBAMovies Yah, unless a movie is like, actually terrible. I'm not saying the Garfield Movie was terrible because I honestly enjoyed it, but I can definitely see an awful movie being over advertised as being annoying. I specifically get really salty whenever I see a Hero Wars Ad pop up. 😒
I got to watch this movie yesterday (yay?) And I agree with pretty much everything you said, never has a movie's plot been so complicated yet so boring at the same time. It strays to far from the source material to be a good adaptation but on its own merit is a genuinely terrible movie.
No actual fan of the REAL Garfield would ever COME to one to fucking cry, Lorenzo or NO Lorenzo JUST MAKE A REAL FUCKING MOVIE!!! Will NOT be paying to view this in ANY capacity.
