I've bought a nice office chair, but after using is for a few days it turned out, that the gas cylinder is sitting so low, that it touches and even scratches the ground, so how to remove the gas cylinder from the chair and then elevate it and put it back? Watch and see!

I tried this exact same method on a five spoke plastic-based office chair and the retaining ring popped off of the bottom of the piston before the base seemed to moved a millimeter. I would need to employ bracing for the castor-base, at the top, and then apply the pressure to the bottom of the piston (the part rubbing the floor) and push that upward or use a mallet with wooden block.

Yeah that's what can happen. Maybe 50:50 chance. So I was quite lucky, but maybe also the case when you do the adjustment when the chair is rather new. I think I saw the video you need somewhere on YT but can't remember it sorry

Is this the dripex ergonomic chair ? I have that same exact chair and it looks the same and the problem exists which led me here !

Wow ... crazy that they still haven't fixed that ... and of course .. yes ... it's exactly this chair ;-)) BTW the solution still lasts perfectly and the chair is nice and comfortable

Going to try this, but use aluminum foil instead of gaff tape around the base

@@allcheckout kept slipping up, so I went back to gaff tape. But I only covered the a small part of the tapered section, instead of the whole bottom like you did. So I can't see the tape

@@CoolColJ Thanks for the update. Interesting that aluminum didn't work. Yeah the tape is not needed at the bottom. How does it work now? Mine is still doing find. Have about 1/2" gap from the floor and is absolutely stable. Not moving at all. Yours?

@@allcheckout So far it's stayed at 1.5 inches from the floor, with around 4 layers of gaff tape. I have a Steelcase Leap. When I did it, the star base did not pop off, the bottom of the gas cyclinder did. Then I slid the star base off with the middle pole still stuck on it, and slammed it hard against a rubber mat a few times, then it popped off

Sadly the hydraulic cylinder popped out of the bottom of the tube rather than the whole mechanism coming out of the base :( I used spray lubricant and could not get it out of the base!

I removed the wheels and then held on to two of the 5 legs and proceeded to bang the bottom of the cylinder on the floor, it came out after a few tries.

@@jenxrj OK nice ... and what did you add to the cylinder to make it wider?

@@allcheckout I first added tape, but then it didn't provide as much stability as the metal of the cylinder. So I made custom legs from wood which had a bit more clearance. You can also solve this by buying larger wheels. But I couldn't find any for my chair's 65mm wheels. My chair's a Steelcase Leap for reference.

@@jenxrj Thanks ... very interesting. BTW the stability with the tape is not a problem at all. It's just a few hours ... after that it stabilizes perfectly, but of course the larger wheels would also be a good option. Just can't figure out why they didn't test the ground clearance before manufacturing and selling it ... lol. Merry xmas.
