Thank you for the video, I've just visited the site and article. The blue text on the article does not seem clickable when I hover over it e.g. the Dj course link, I don't know if it's on my end or if the hyperlinks have not yet been activated
What if rather than livestreaming you want to record and later process it to make cool edits. What kind of gear and angle shots would I need? Thanks in advanced!
Amazing explanation! But a tip: get a (girl)friend and make them a twitch moderator on your channel so they can watch the stream and comments for you. If your mic is off they can tell you what's happening and manage spam/bots. Just be prepared to get him/her/them on on the guestlist of your gigs.
When I add a new audio input on obs and select my ddj-800 I'm still not getting any sound. I have downloaded blackhole too. Any suggestions to get it working?
@@manzanitaexpress8029 use your dj laptop for djing and use the second laptop for streaming, all you need to do is to connect it to a sound card. That’s all.
@@omogbolahanahmed3762 could you explain in beginners terms how to complete this process please? 🤔 I have two laptops and two cameras that I want to use to stream (unfortunately, I've only been able to use one because I don't know how to connect the two! ) thank you!!!
@@JordanHourGlassDJ You can do this quite easily. Here are two of multiple ways: 1. Take the master audio output of your dj gear and connect it to an audio interface. Connect the audio interface to your streaming computer and set it up to stream. Connect all cameras and other gear for streaming to the streaming computer (unless you have gear that can control OBS over the network). 2. Use network broadcasting to connect the two computers together over a local or a remote network and transfer audio from one OBS instance to another. This will require lots of bandwidth on your network and a bit of delay will be added, which you have to account for in software - wifi is a no go here. Connect your gear with lan cables. The cool thing about this is you will be able to have the most freedom, when deciding where your gear is gonna sit (Stream setup in one room, DJ booth in another). Have some gear advice too, just so you know: The streaming setup works best on Windows or Linux machines. MacOS has gotten better but usually older laptops will not be powerful enough or compatible with certain gear to attempt streaming with OBS. Consider a desktop pc for streaming. Even a lower cost one will do if you pick the right hardware (f.e. I've streamed in 1080p60 on 7 year old 'potato' hardware with no issues for multiple years.)
I did a lot of streaming in 2020 when corona hit and one of my main findings was that more expensive cameras do not make this any easier. Especially using DSLR cams via capture card introduce a ton of latency and making it all sync is a nightmare. Especially if you have multiple cams (I had one webcam and one dslr). It really is a shame that webcams have such small sensors/lenses which limits the image quality so much. I would literally buy a 1080p/lowlatency webcam with a huge lense for a grand if there existed one. Yes there are "good" ones like the logitech brio I use but even the top of the line webcams still suck big time. The thing I found making all this a LOT easier is using two laptops. One with an audio interface streaming all the things and the other (or standalone gear) doing the djing. I also went down the route of using a greenscreen with visuals but I cannot fully recommend that if you do not have a permanent streaming space. my assembly time was 30-40mins and that was just too long. In the end I switched back to a couple of webcams for my ableton + hardware live streams that need countless angles for all the gear. I just did not want to sync multiple cameras and with webcams the latency is low enough that you just don't need to care about it.
@@digitaldjtips yes I used droidcam for a while with my phone. Image quality was actually very good but the app had some bugs. Maybe they improved it in the meantime.
Do you have any videos on how to setup obs for a green screen chromakey background around the Dj equipment? I’ve seen streams where some backgrounds are animated and they look really cool. Another thing I was wondering is what is the best way to setup a camera view directly above the turntables or Dj controller?
Hi, I'm struggling to simply record sets on my Macbook (1210's) through a mixer to my Macbook, it doesn't recognise my 3.5mm jack so I got the tripple banded one as suggested online. Any recommended software and / or audi interface? Thanks
I've been trying to get mobile setup working. Atm I have JBL 110 boombox with line in and line out, laptop, usb powered hercules controller with only master/headphone output. Then I have 300e pocophone, cheap behringer usb sound interface, usb a -> usb c adapter. It's kinda tricky to get traktor to put out signal internally and streaming with same laptop that you use for playing drains battery quite fast, so I do streaming only with poco and irlpro software. behringer gives line in connection for phone that irlpro understands. jbl works as a monitor and you can put it in between sound interface and controller. this is more than enough for most cases in my opinion and I can play about 2 hours outside in part with this, or use parts of it for example to stream live gigs. extra phone works as a chat connection, if I wanna write something. If I'd really wanna have some voice in, I could just train tts with my voice I guess. I frankly hate speaking in streams. :D
I also had the setup (without the speaker) with me in croatia couple months ago. It's quite portable and you can play sets in very remote places if you fancy that sort of stuff. If I could figure out a smaller speaker with line out, I'd use that while travelling. Dunno if such speaker exists though.
Great Video, just what I needed to get started with my first video recording. On OBS, rather than stream, I take it you can just record and then upload to RU-vid at a later date or do you have another tutorial for recording video sets that aren’t streamed. When using the mave portable camera how do you get output from a DDJ 400 (rca) to the camera and a set of speakers?
Great overview of what's required. Used OBS in my serup recently. Theres a controller app I ran on an unised phone to easily switch between scenes so i didn't have to fiddle with it on the laptop. One question on my mind is copyright. How does a DJ get "licenses" to legally stream?
Thank you for the video. I would love to see your travel setup walkthrough with the Mevo cam and Prime go! Are you planning on doing the travel videos again this year?
I live in terraced accommodation with thin walls and practice DJing at home without using external speakers. All the sound is in my headphones only. Is it possible to stream with this same setup? I could do without noise complaints from neighbours but really want to get into streaming...
I've got a DDJ400 & MAC pro. When streaming via OBS (I've installed Blackhole), I choose my output source but don't get signal to the PA system via my auxilary outpiut. Am I doing something wrong or is there a workaround? My 1st stream it happened and in RekordBox I changed from Blackhole to DDJ400 audio settings anfd I had signal to the web and on the PA sytem. Tried again and I can only do one of the 2. Please help.
i have a pretty nice set up with two macs.Rane 12s and 72mixer.Serato and OBS but no cameras as i mix music and video and thats what people see.None needs to see my old mug on screen. So pretty pictures instead. Some sets are live some are not but i am not on camera. Why watch a dj doing the same thing over and over for half an hour or an hour or longer?.Its better if the dj is in view if they have a number of camera angles on automatic so that it doesnt get too dull .Everyone is supposed to have really short attention spans but many can just sit down and watch someone press buttons and move faders for long periods
I wish you could do a updated version of doing a live stream with a mobile setup using the mevo and denon prime go. Copyright issues is the biggest issue.
Mevo is so simple it really doesn't need explanation, I used that exact setup (Mevo plus Prime Go) for a whole summer of livestreams. Twitch/Mixcloud Live won't give copyright issues.
Phil did you ever try and get the new Numark all in one running off a Powerbank for portable livestreams, i know you used the DenonGo wondered if you tried this as a budget alternative???
Thanks for this video Phil - this is great info and exactly what I was looking for today actually. With two cameras, how does the switching work between the two - is that a software solution or a separate hardware interface?
Can you search for a playlist or folder? Like you named a folder "Must Play", but you can t seem to find it in your tree list on the left, you forgot where you put it. Can you search for folder "Must Play" ?
Hello, i have TRS cable from my DJM900 mixer running into my laptop to capture the stereo sound from the mixer into the microphone input of my laptop. This does give me a volume signal but the audio sounds bad and underwater. I tried the same with the DDJ flx6. I ran a cable from the master out put of this mixer into the microphone input of my laptop. I keep getting a signal but the audio is super bad sounding.
@@digitaldjtips I know there are converter to enter the Usb-c (the input that I need to charge my phone) but I'm wondering if it's possible to connect xdj-rr to the phone for live stream.
hi when i live stream to youtube the audio sounds terible how do i get round this my dj controller gose into my line in on my sound card and the audio out from my sound card gose to my amp i select web cam as my video sorce i use a pioneer xdj rr i dont use the usb on it do i need to?
Ok I'm new to this have the Prime 4 using Engine software, never used a laptop to DJ, but I do have one. So would you recommend me buy the Mevo or Logitech, and use the laptop and OBS
If I'm live streaming an event with good sound quality coming through an audio interface, but I also want to capture a bit of room atmosphere (similar to what they do with festival streams), how would I go about doing that? Would I setup a microphone in the DJ booth and just turn the volume down low on OBS? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
Hey! very much a newbie to streaming/recording sets....but does the meevo also record sets? i.e. to watch at a later date vs. just streaming live? how would you recommend going about that?
Does your audio utility solve the cue to OBS issue in Traktor? (the cue signal goes straight in the livestream when using OBS and Traktor on the same PC)
Excuse me I was always was told it’s not good to run a dj daw & stream to a source from the same computer you should always separate the two for the best stream with out drop outs I have a M2 and I still would work my labo hard like that I usually use an iPhone with the app on it and go from a mixer with usb giving a digital output
There are a few ways. One way is to use a small mixer between the controller and the speakers to split the output. Another way is to use RCA splitter cables (not the best, but it can work).
Oh for sure, our studio here at DDJT has eight DSLRs with varied lenses feeding into our live console, they're such great value for the quality you get.
Even though you mentioned using a laptop for both your music software and Livestream,, the best way is to have a separate desktop/laptop. I am certain someone in the comments will say that is too expensive. Not if you know the specs and get fairly new or catch a sale on Amazon. I own 2 desktops, a laptop, and 2 cams. The first desktop and laptop are new. The other was a gift from a college I went to. My laptop is for my Livestream and where my cams are plugged in. One of my desktops is used for my DJ software. My controller is connected to it as well. My other desktop is where my BUTT and the recorded app are used I use twitch for my live streaming but trying a multistreaming service as well. I do use OSB and love it. Some say it is difficult. I thought so before but now I can't see myself live streaming without it. I have 2 HD cams along with the cam on my laptop.
@@digitaldjtips set up the streaming in the way that sounds comes straight of out the Denon into the stream (since the Denon doesn’t need a laptop or external DJ software) - does that make sense ?
Wait, the mic sound will don't appear in OBS when it's connected to my DDJ SX2? I've connected my controller via the line in of my PC. Nice tips again btw. thx for the video. 👍
Brilliant video, I’m looking into sharing my vinyl collection with RU-vidrs, but I am struggling to find a way to record high quality video and audio, rather than just through my phone mic. Thanks
Great video,if there is anybody in the DJ community can help me here is my scenario I have my DJ mixer hooked to sound card to OBS my computer hooked up to external monitors my headphones, of course, hooked up to my DJ mixer the sound I get between the headphones and my studio monitors completely unsync outrageously lagging is there an answer to this?.
@@digitaldjtips thank you so much for the respond you are the best Problem is i am using ipad and traktor z1 which i bought after your review video it has only 2 out goes in mac mini through apogee duet
I don't know what other peoples experiences are with VB audio cable/rekordbox, but the audio quality has been pretty poor when i've streamed or recorded.
@@digitaldjtips yeah I don't know, if I record straight through rekordbox it sounds a lot better, but as soon as I record through OBS using VB audio cable it gets worse.
can you also do a video about green screen effects like how skratch bastid was doing the tuesday morning coffee djing in the coffee shop background lol
Again, to say at first. Lovely tips and followed for years. But... Lately I feel the focus tends too much get on some kinda "pro level" Hands in the air and all that kinda crap. Yeah call me whatever and it's no hate. I just love someone who ever are a music addict. No matter what genre. Just have to say that. All good with that again and of course need to get tips on how to be a big name in biz. I still hate that tho but my opinion. Learn people to go their own way. Don't fkn copy too much crap beatport top list. You can of course be inspired. But don't just copy that whole damn playlist and go... Again been around for ages and the 90s are a damn gold era in electronic music. If someone disagree I don't know what lol. I love find out new and old producers and music. But just don't only focus on be a so called top name. You are all good as you are. But don't forget to dive into and support the real underground music. Get away from beatport as a example and just free flow ❤️
To clarify my statement. I guess gonna get a lot hate on first comment lol. I don't care. My point are just don't invite big names in industry. They are good but then imo people or kids new to this just getting some ideals that 0.000000567% ever gonna reach.? Invite some badass no name DnB Dj, Techno, House or whatever genre one. You can be a great one and get inspiration by people doing their thing, week after week and just love it, without being worlds biggest name. My point and just my opinion ❤️
Great video! nice simplified livestreaming advice. A few things I would add about live streaming on twitch. DO NOT use copyrighted music, It can get you banned if it gets reported enough times. Apparently DMCA laws make livestreaming music, even if you have purchased it, illegal without a broadcast license. Sadly those cost thousands of dollars for one use depending on the song. We've seen this affect even major artistis like the lead guitarist of Dragon Force (banned for playing his own song), Metallica (silenced while trying to stream a concert on twitch), and T-pain (temp ban for using his own music as alert clips). A lot of people do slide under the radar but when the AI bots find you, the ban hammer will come swiftly. of course an easy way around this is to not save your broadcasts on the twitch servers. a setting that can be changed in the stream manager area of twitch. As of today there are no bots that can crawl live content, but you can bet it's being worked on.
Awesome video as always Phil! I thought that Twitch had copyright issues with playing certain songs/sampled songs? I remember seeing a video similar to this of you saying that Mixcloud Live was the best to use to stream
