There was a blatant handball that wasn't granted and Trent missed an easy goal, not only that, Arsenal had 1 really good chance besides their actual goal and they missed it. So from what I'm seeing had things counted that's a 3-2 for Liverpool under Arsenal's "control" assuming they gone and took their chances in the Anfield game, but I do agree Liverpool were lucky to not get battered in the first half in the FA cup game.

Klopp, unlike most managers today, has a talent for changing things up on the fly, especially when things are not going Liverpool's way. The amount of times Liverpool turned things around in the second half and with subs this season is nothing short of amazing. Most managers can't come up with new strategies on the fly like that

Martinelli was a planned attempt to get at Trent. Its something we've done to Liverpool in our last two meetings. Trossard and Rowe and Nketiah were desperation plays. Especially as Rowe essentially came on because when Havertz moved from CF to LM /CM for Nketiah he lost the ball like 5 times and misplaced passes that would have been key outlets from the pressure we were under. Say what you want about young players but I definitely immediately felt Martinelli would struggle after Conor Bradley. Not only more sound than Trent, but just as fresh as Martinelli, so yeah not too surprising to me. As an arsenal fan this was a game where a Trossard or Nketiah starts, as much as he instinctively but himself in great positions, Havertz played with no conviction. He was just disgusting to watch

Martinelli did Trent a couple of times, thank you Ibou. Bradley comes on an Martinelli tries to pass him. Nope he’s loses the ball to Bradley who hits it back onto Martinelli for a goal kick. The next 3 times martinelli got the ball on the wing, he saw Bradley and back passed. That’s brilliant 🤩

Jota really is a fantastic little player. He's clever both with his passing and especially his finishes, they're almost never blast and hope. He constantly manages to put in dangerous headers despite being much smaller than the players supposedly marking him. He's direct, he's creative, has fantastic movement (it's how he magically finds himself with the ball and "unmarked" in the box).. Goes far too far under the radar. One of our best signings in recent history. Now we just need him to have good luck with staying injury-free.

Jota's one of those players that can run as fast with the ball as without. Agree. He's a sublime player

100% correct ! On a standing level start Saliba is no match. Saliba has a recorded speed of 32.47kph, Nunez leaves him for dust at 36.5kph.

I was just about to comment this! The lack of actual analysis bugs me. If you're going to analyse a players physical attributes, at least make it valid. If you listened to this and never watched the match, you'd believe Saliba is faster than nunez, which couldn't be further from the truth!

Acceleration usually counts more in football. Defenders at usually way much slower than attackers. While good positioning is key, Nunez will definitely find it very difficult to beat him to a race because he will almost never have time to get to his top speed. And almost every thing else Saliba is able to match.

The point was, Saliba is quick enough to deal with Nunez…..you don’t need to be quicker if you are an effective defender….

to me the biggest difference is we have fresh legs in the midfield now that do a LOT of running, last year gini was gone but truth is his legs were almost gone, henderson while willing in spirit didn't have the legs to be running whole game long, he probably should had been a squad player to be used judiciously in games, Thiago never did ton of running for any of his teams and when he did, he would get injured, Milner should had been gone a year ago if not 2, Ox was always injured felt like it, Keita was injured half the time and the time he played, him on defense was something between soft butter and a traffic cone. Fabinho's game was never about running but about reading the game and being in good position. Add the fact that most of those players won everything with the club, they played maximum games the year before and I think it tired and drained those old legs, think most of the players were almost 30 or over 30. This year, Liverpool has a bunch of young, fresh, hungry legs with players eager to prove themselves and they don't have established roles, captains armband, large contract or large ego where they want to play in certain position or certain way, this gives Klopp flexibility to whatever he wants. Before we had front 3 with false 9, 2 box to box midfielders, single pivot destroyer, fullbacks that bomb forward and centrebacks that are great in the air and play high line and whoever came into the team from the bench, had to conform to the player he was replacing.

klopp has nothing to do with this, the players are better maybe and from this come the fluidity of games, but the entire sísten has not changed many years, apart of TAA midfield move, but this is needed years ago, not recently !!

You wouldn’t see thiago or henderson making runs into the box every game it would be a rare occasion whereas our 2 number 8’s have no fear when making runs cus the system is all about covering and apart from the defence most players can play every position

@@timmy5876actually hendo did that often. He just rarely had the end product to show for it. He worked endlessly to make himself an extra option in all aspects of the field. Particularly in attack

They shouldn't have been 4 or 5 up but thinking Liverpool were tactically better is a stretch.

And xG overpromises when the defense is well organized and defenders have time to block. For all that Arsenal looked stronger in the first half, the only shot that tested Allison even a little was Havertz's curler from range -- a shot that is never going in the net against a top keeper.

Lol oh the XG....if prime Drogba or Suarez was in an Arsenal shirt, they would have been 4 up by half time. Bro that was some of the worst finishing i've seen between 2 premier league sides. Arsenal had us on toast for that entire first half. It was extremely uncomfortable.

Lines and formation changes are now for beginners coaches, its the minimum what you need to know, amd many times Klop didint make this correct at all, his only luck this luck are the individual work of players and the other team struggles, but nothing new in terms of games approach, all is the same old, boring!

Because Klopp finally got a working fit midfield in Macca, Szobo (irony atm as both were injured😅) ,Endo and Ryan. Klopp had been wanting to make the rotational triangle on both flanks work for so long.....but it would require a fit midfield and a fit backline. Less pressing. Chose the moment to press. More midfield control. Mixed up the type of passes. Be unpredictable and in previous seasons...pundits and football channels kept saying rivals have figured out Liverpool. Tbh.....Hendo and Fab leaving....(Ox...Milie...Naby left on free)....just forced the midfield upgrade to happen all at once in the last transfer window.....and it paid off..because even when the 5 subs rule had kicked in last season....Klopp was hesitent to make those subs. This season..Klopp made use of ALOT of subs😁....and the youth academy players........paid off....since Klopp was the brain behind the new AXA training facility house both the senior squad and the youth academy lads...to give the lads that extra push....❤

The squad depth at LIVERPOOL isn't that good it's mainly kids really..

xg doesn't represent the actual chances in the match. 2 of arsenal's best chances (odegaard crossbar and gomez blunder) has low xG but they could easily score those

@babixillo it gives a good idea though. Odegard hits the bar because he has to shoot past five bodies Saka is also closed down. The defending on the night hasn't been praised enough. There isn't a single Arsenal attempt I thought was a guaranteed goal that was missed. Not one as clear as Diaz's goal

Arsenal could get the ball near the box; but they were not able to beat a defender in the box. So there was usually at least one defender who could put a foot in the way of goal. Odegard hammering the crossbar is somehow more worthy of remembering that Konate making a full stretch sliding block one second before to deny the shot from an excellent cross. Three shots in that play. Two for higher xG that were blocked. The lowest xG chance hit the crossbar. Liverpool's defenders played well.

xG is intened to be a long term multi-game judgment of chances a team creates, not an infallible statistic for a single game

There were at least 2 chances when havertz didnt have rhe balls to even shoot. Thats 0 xg even thougb he was inside tje box right in the middle with noone tackling

Good observation. Despite the insane amount of pressure on the CB's from min 0:00 to HT whistle, Klopp never changed tactics. Even after odegaard and saka had very lethal attempts off of the extremely high press he didn't change anything. It was then pretty obvious to me that Klopp was waiting to tire the Arsenal forwards out and committ to scoring in The 2nd half/ET The absence of key players and having kids stand in would mean that committing too hard to scoring early would eventually tire Liverpool first. Reduced level of team chemistry and reduced overall skill on the pitch means it would take a lot more in exchange to score. And Arsenal despite the loss, have a very intelligent and fast attacking game. Klopp's approach was risky but managed to take the sting out of Arsenal's offense and help build his own.

liverpool were outclassed first half they they never controlled anything they just fortunate arsenal didnt score it was 12 shots to 1, & the longer it went without a goal the more dangerous liverpool became. i dont think any managaer would put their team in that situation to be deliberately outclassed especially with world class players like saka and odegaard, liverpool just stuck in there and turned the tide once they realised arsenal cant finish their dinner props to them for that but no manager in the world could account for arsenal missing 3/4 clear chances

Elliott was so good once shifted into the midfield and Diaz going to the right with Gakpo at CF. Set up the attack so often and put them through on the counter

I don't think it's that they've developed as such more than finally they've got the squad depth to execute what they want

This said, the second half switch analysis is absolutely spot on

think they wanted to finish the game early, it was very aggressive & honestly they shouldve went in the break at LEAST 2-0 up comfortably, then maybe sat back and let liverpool come for 45 minutes, however not scoring cost them dearly against a great side like liverpool they can make you pay

It’s been massively helped by the depth in attack and the now ample depth in midfield. Not to mention that last season seemed to have changed something in Klopp, he seems a lot more ruthless in subbing off players to make tweaks. Salah came off against Chelsea in match day 1, something he only used to do in games where the match was done and dusted. But now he has his starting 3 attackers and usually, 2 extra world class attackers (Jota/Gakpo if Darwin, Diaz, Mo start) to bring off the bench if need be. And obviously, he can bring the likes of Grav or Elliott on for Szobo/Jones and even Macca for Endo if need be. Or like he did in Sunday, Bradley on to shift Trent into midfield and give more defensive solidity. Klopp seems to trust his subs and youth more often now so it’s working out for him
